Is there a more intriguing prospect in the state of Ohio than Xenia's Zach Furlong? The 6-5, 225-pound athlete has made his mark as a tight end, but there might be another position in his future -- one that reportedly is very skilled in playing.
"This year I will be a quarterback," Furlong said. "Last year I played as a backup for the first time since I was a kid. Most schools are recruiting me as a tight end and wide receiver. It could get interesting after this coming season with me playing QB. They may offer me again as a quarterback. We will see."
So far, Furlong's list of offers is very solid.
"Things are going pretty good," he said. "I have offers from Wisconsin, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Michigan State. Michigan is talking about an offer but they are not ready yet to pull the trigger."
Furlong has at least four camping destinations selected.
"I am camping at Akron, Miami of Ohio, and Cincinnati," he said. "I may look at some others too. I am going to a combine in West Virginia."
Furlong plays basketball in the winter and is also currently busy with track.
"I am running track this year," Furlong said. "I am on the 4x100m, 4x200m, the 4x400m and the high jump."
Furlong has shown speed on the track as well as in testing.
"I have a 4.6 forty but I think I can run better than that," he said.
All the attention has seemingly caught Furlong by surprise, so don't expect him to jump at any of the offers he has in hand.
"I will wait to decide," he said. "I am not sure about so many things. I am just now starting to think about all of this. It has happened so quickly.
"For one thing I need to take my test. I have my ACT package sitting here."
What will be the key factor in the school he chooses?
"What I want to do is play," Furlong said. "I want to make a difference. I don't care what size the school is. I could go to a big school or a small school."
Below are some links to Furlong's junior highlights. He wears No. 7, and in many of the clips you can see him blocking on a play, as well as some pass catching highlights. Click below to view:
