Florida WR/DB Evans Looking At OSU

Evangel Christian (Fla.) wide receiver/cornerback Art Evans recently picked up an offer from Ohio State and was pleasantly surprised. He also has 10 additional offers. Evans won't camp at Ohio State this summer because it's too far from home, but says when it comes time to pick a school, distance from home will not be a factor. We caught up with this talented prospect for more.

Wide receiver/cornerback Art Evans from Evangel Christian in Lakeland, Fla., recently picked up a scholarship offer from Ohio State.

"I was very surprised," Evans said. "Very, very happy."

Evans (6-1, 175, 4.48) now has a total of 11 offers.

"I also have offers from South Florida, Central Florida, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Duke," he said.

As a junior in 2005, Evans hauled in 62 receptions for 1,329 yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensively, he intercepted 11 passes and scored two touchdowns. He added eight punt return touchdowns as well.

Evans performs in the classroom as well with a 3.7 GPA and a score of 19 on the ACT.

He has not begun to narrow down his list of possibilities.

"No, no favorites," he said. "I'm pretty much open."

Ohio State recently offered another cornerback from Lakeland, Fla. – Ahmad Black. He plays at nearby Lakeland Senior.

"That's my cousin," Evans said. "That's cool we're being recruited by some of the same schools."

Evans probably will not attend camp at Ohio State this summer.

"I don't really know about Ohio State's camp, just as far as I don't know how I would get up there. It's a long way," he said.

But when it comes time to sign a scholarship, Evans says distance from home will not be a factor.

"It really don't matter where I go as far as what school I'll choose," he said. "But for camps, that's on your dime and I don't know how I would get up there. But I would go there to play there without a doubt."
