GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 5:54:53 PM)
I eyeballed some of the Pennsylvania players today and I have to admit I really don't have a very good feeling about Ohio's chances in the 49th Big 33 Football Classic.

kleintime16 (Jun 16, 2006 5:58:32 PM)
Hey Gary, which players, if any, really stand out to you. Any players that might/should have recieved an Ohio State scholly? You seemed to mention Palmer in high regards. Thanks

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 5:58:32 PM)
Hi klein...yeah Ryan Palmer is really a mystery to me in a year that OSU took only two linemen. His frame is as solid as anyone's out there. And he's really only been playing for a few years so his upside is really large if you ask me. Derrell Johnson really stands out as well. He's got great size and can do so many things athletically. Troy Pascley really looks the part. Delone Carter looks to be really solid. Gibson is a stud on defense but other than him...I'm not too high on that unit. I can't see them stopping PA on any kind of a consistent basis.

Coop (Jun 16, 2006 6:02:53 PM)
Gary, you're the man for making the time. Of course, it's not really difficult to sit aside some time to talk Buckeyes is it?? LOL I hope you and your family are well, it's been sometime since I have seen you last. Now that we're in Bellevue, Ohio, we will be back around on gameday Saturdays. Anyhow, what is the best guess for Oline this recruiting season? We have 3 commits, all skilled players, shouldn't we get a commit or two ASAP for the online? Am I too worried about nothing here?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:02:53 PM)
Hi Coop ... I think the pickings are really slim this year as far as O-linemen in Ohio. I would hope that they're still considering Nick Schepis from Walsh but it really doesn't seem like he's a top priority from what I've been hearing. Sure I like Nick Claytor from the camp but I haven't really seen him enough to know better. I hope they have a few out-of-staters that they feel good about. I think that taking a minimum of three on the offensive line is necessary. I think we are all worried about offensive linemen this year.

Poz79 (Jun 16, 2006 6:04:08 PM)
Hi Gary, anyone injuries to report?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:04:08 PM)
Small still isn't 100 percent but he's been the only one that has been sitting out that I'm aware of. He certainly thinks he'll be more than ready to make plays on Saturday though.

hamiltuckbuck (Jun 16, 2006 6:06:28 PM)
Hey Gary. How do the players feel about being sent to Pa. with one hand tied behind their back?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:06:29 PM)
They've kind of been taking offense to hearing about it over here. Earlier in the week they were referred to as the 'C' team from Ohio and they're not too fond of hearing stuff like that.

Poz79 (Jun 16, 2006 6:09:16 PM)
What's the buzz in Hershey, is the last year Ohio is a part of the Big 33 if the date of one of the two all star games isn't changed?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:09:17 PM)
Hi Poz...if either of the dates aren't changed then I hope it's the last year. It's kind of odd because both sides publicly want to keep the rivalry going but I don't think either side really wants to change anything. This could amount to the last game and it has the possibility of being a rout...so that would not be an ideal scenario for Ohio to walk away from participating in the game.

reepoman21 (Jun 16, 2006 6:11:23 PM)
Gary....with Oliver, Saine and Evege already in the fold, who else could you see committing after the camp season? Thanks.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:11:24 PM)
Hi reepoman21...I haven't thought much about it since Evege committed...about time...but I would guess that Claytor could possibly be the next to commit. That's just pure speculation on my part. I hope to hear of a few more commits sooner than later.

kleintime16 (Jun 16, 2006 6:16:40 PM)
Gary - The big question of the day, is Ray Small in yet? Lagunasurf doesnt seem to think so yet, neither does helpinghend. I know you have the inside info on the G-ville boys and said earlier that he was in. Is he officially in?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:16:40 PM)
Let me say this and I'll leave it at this. I've been privy to some information that all but guarantees Small is in but I will yield to Laguana and HH and not trust what I know to be 100 percent accurate. Obviously if he's not admitted my manhood will likely be attacked so therefore I'll not trust what I know 100 percent because it sounds like either Laguna or HH is on to something. I have all but bulletproof inside information that says Small is in even though I will not say the source of that information. If Small is not enrolled on Monday, he'll be very surprised and I would guess that Coach Ginn would be very surprised as well. But I think my accuracy regarding all things Glenville is well-documented by now. As I've said before...why are we even talking about this? Smile!

gram (Jun 16, 2006 6:20:19 PM)
Gary why dont you cover north west ohio football, that much,,,and have you heard much about Ryan Nathan and jamiihr williams from Lima they both seem to be having a good summer

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:20:20 PM)
Hi gram...One way or another, I typically find the good players in Ohio and I make an effort to see every one of them. I've already seen Jamiihr Williams in person and I'm very impressed. He has two solid years ahead of him if I'm not mistaken. I've just recently been introduced to Nathan and I've watched his video on ScoutingOhio.com and he's a nice little runner. It's good that I at least am familiar with those two guys isn't it? I'm looking forward to learning more.

JohnnyBuckeye (Jun 16, 2006 6:21:31 PM)
Hi Gary. What is the latest info you have on Eugene Clifford? Buckeye or Wolverine?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:21:31 PM)
Buckeye. I feel good about Clifford and not so good about Martin. I hope I'm right on the first Johnny Buckeye and wrong on the second.

weston (Jun 16, 2006 6:22:24 PM)
Is it true that Joe Daniels is also having heart problems and will need surgery?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:22:24 PM)
I believe I read that tonight weston.

JohnnyBuckeye (Jun 16, 2006 6:26:01 PM)
With regards to out of state recruits, can you give a percentage chance of landing each of the following recruits? Martez WIlson? Ronald Johnson? John Clay? Kris O'Dowd?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:26:01 PM)
This is a total guess on my part. 10, 10, 0, 10! Clay being 0. I'm told he's not leaving Wisconsin no matter what. The rest I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on.

Poz79 (Jun 16, 2006 6:29:36 PM)
Anyone on the PA said jump out from what you've seen?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:29:37 PM)
Boy do they have some good looking specimens. This Jared Odrick kid looks very impressive for one. Tom McEowen is another one that looks the part. Both guys are Penn Staters. I like the Pat Devlin but I didn't really get to see him work out. Ohio has some great individual players as well but I'm not sure they have nearly enough to play with PA.

weston (Jun 16, 2006 6:30:08 PM)
Will USC pay dearly for Reggie's and Jarrett's "indiscretion" or will they get away with no sanctions?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:30:09 PM)
I think they're going to pay in some way weston. Not sure what the damage will actually be.

Poz79 (Jun 16, 2006 6:31:44 PM)
Speaking of Glenville, how's it looking for Hines getting an OSU offer?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:31:44 PM)
I'm sure if he had the requisite ACT score he would already have an offer. But that's not the case at this time. I still say that Hines will have an offer at some point down the line and he will be a Buckeye. That is a viewpoint shared by others at Glenville.

BrianBuckeye (Jun 16, 2006 6:33:13 PM)
I was wondering if you think OSU will take a QB this year? Three (Boeckman, Schoenhoft, Henton) would seem to be enough in 2007. It would also put some space between Henton and the next guy, which I think would be attractive to a recruit since it would give him a better chance to play earlier. Thoughts?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:33:13 PM)
I just like Chris Smith from South Point and if they would decide to take a QB I would certainly look at him as a candidate. I really don't know if OSU will take a QB but I tend to think they won't in this class.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 6:35:42 PM)
How is Kyle Jefferson progressing? Do you think he'll get an offer at some point

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:35:43 PM)
Hi osufan ... Kyle is doing really good on the Bus Tour I'm told. I've seen him make some tremendous strides that I believe will carry over on into football season. I would think he would be a possible candidate for a ship because he'll test and work out well at many of the camps. He's definitely a player whose stock is on the rise. And he loves 0-State.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 6:40:32 PM)
What is the story with Danny Herron?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:40:33 PM)
I've been a big Danny Herron fan for some time. Him and Jordan Mabin. I'm drawn to players that make football plays. I was very high on Reecie in high school, I liked Tony Pittman over Eric Haw but I liked both, I liked Raymond Williams, I liked Tyrell Sutton of Jevon Ringer but I liked both, I loved Chris Wells and now I'm really into Mabin and Herron. Saine is new to me but he's someone that I will see this year. I can't make confident opinions on players until I see them in person. That's just my style. I have to see how that same talented player handles himself on and off the field. I think you can't go wrong with Herron or Mabin. Both are solid football players.

JohnnyBuckeye (Jun 16, 2006 6:44:35 PM)
I was at the North-South practice a few times during the week, and I just don't see Tyler Moeller ever projecting as a starter with the other kids we have in the mix and those we signed last year. Granted he seems like a great kid, hard-worker, tough nosed, etc... , but he just doesnt look the part to me. I see him being a typical "Tressel recruit" who might be a great role player/team mate (ala Curt Lukens, Joel Penton, etc..) and good at special teams. Maybe I am wrong, but I would like your thoughts.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:44:35 PM)
Tyler Moeller makes noticeable plays on the football field. When I first went to Colerain High School to check out Connor Smith and get a read on Moeller last summer, my first impression of Moeller was similar to yours. But I've watched him make plays with a relentless attitude and if he had two more inches I think he would have been one of the best LB's around. I just love having him, Homan and Gibson on the same unit. And we haven't even seen Mark Johnson. The potential of that foursome is just ridiculous. Don't count Moeller out by any means.

Poz79 (Jun 16, 2006 6:48:34 PM)
Let me jump to '08 a second. Your feelings on Shawntel Rowell? How about Brandon Beachum, LB or RB, think he's OSU bound?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:48:34 PM)
Love Shawtel Rowell...he was really impressive as a defensive player down in San Antonio where I had a chance to watch him move around. I think Coach Ginn is going to start him out on offense only at Glenville but I think, in time, he'll find his way to the D-line somehow. I love Beachum as a football player. I know his dad well and we talk about his situation quite often, especially since the tour started. We both think he's going to be a tremendous running back. Brandon himself is only now starting to believe in himself as a running back. I think he's the next Chris Wells. And he'll be running behind a host of 300 pounders this year. He's a tremendous talent. And yes if OSU offers, I think he'll be a Buckeye. He was really impressed with ND I have to tell you.

gram (Jun 16, 2006 6:50:44 PM)
What do you thiink of CJ peaks....LB or s which one you think he will play and do you ohio state will offer

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:50:45 PM)
I like Peake a lot...I'll just say that I don't care what position they bring him in at...just bring him in. With his size and speed, I'll give him the chance to play whatever position he wants to play initially. I sure hope OSU offers but I don't have any first-hand information. I need to give Coach Douglass a call.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 6:54:13 PM)
What guys have preformed well during the Ginn bus tour?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:54:14 PM)
Dane Sanzenbacher is one name I've been hearing about. Mark Wooldridge is doing fantastic. Charles Babb is looking good... not the writer for Bucknuts... Smile!

yooperbuck (Jun 16, 2006 6:56:56 PM)
Hi Gary. I know continuity is important,so, do the linebackers work on a rotation and if so,who will be in it? Do we stay 4-3 or maybe play around with a 3-4?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:56:57 PM)
Hi yooperbuck...I think you'll possibly see some form of a rotation to get your best guys on the field and you'll see some 3-4 as well. I'd put Pitcock over the center and have four LBs running around making plays. With all the talent in the LB corps we might see that scenario more often than we think.

gram (Jun 16, 2006 6:59:34 PM)
Gary what do you think of B2G elite camp...or do you know much about it,,,i know it's on the west coast,,,the reason i ask is because both of the Lima kids i ask you about got invited...as under classmen they only took 10...there to first two from the ohio area to be invited to it..

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 6:59:34 PM)
I have to say I'm not aware of the B2G camp but any camp, when kids get a new set of eyes on them, is a good camp. It's all about the number of eyes that get to see you. It's guys like Mark Wooldridge and Clay Belton that deserve having good things happen to them for all the work they've put in the offseason and all the camps that they've attended. So any organized camp that's affordable is a good one. Some better than others obviously.

kleintime16 (Jun 16, 2006 7:01:17 PM)
What is the holdup with Jermale Hines getting the scholly?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:01:18 PM)
I don't know that answer from the coaches standpoint but Jermale knows he has some work still to do on his ACT test. I hope that's the only reason if it is the reason. Because he's an athlete and a football player.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 7:07:42 PM)
What guys are rising fast in Ohio? I heard Duane say that Vince Browne is definitely on the rise..

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:07:43 PM)
I like Vince a lot. I for one just don't see him as an offensive lineman at this stage of the game but other recruiters certainly do. He's still so new to this recruiting process and is only now just starting to believe in his potential. I think Peake is a fast riser also.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 7:10:51 PM)
Which "on the fence" recruits in Ohio will get OSU offers?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:10:51 PM)
I'm hoping Kyle Hubbard gets an offer. I think that could vault him over the fence to Ohio State. I'd also like to see Dante Jackson get an offer...that would knock down two fences being which sport and which school. There's your two instate wide receivers...okay Hubbard can be termed the tight end if you want but he can catch the football.

reepoman21 (Jun 16, 2006 7:13:10 PM)
Why the bad feelings on Martin, Gary? I was hoping the committment of Trattou would help our cause.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:13:10 PM)
I'm trusting other people more than I care to with regard to Martin but that's only because I haven't spoken to him myself. I need to do that in the near future.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 7:15:04 PM)
Hi Gary...Any news on who will be at the second camp?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:15:05 PM)
The Ted Ginn Bus tour. Dante Jackson and Danny Herron to name a couple guys. I just haven't had much time to think that far ahead right now.

gram (Jun 16, 2006 7:19:51 PM)
What you think of Gary Thornton of youngstown rayen

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:19:52 PM)
I like Gary Thornton a lot. I know him personally and he's a tremendous young man with a great smile. Size will be the biggest obstacle that he'll have to overcome when recruiters come calling. Him and Salvadore Battles are two very good juniors-to-be for the Rayen School in their last year of existence. Tomaz Hilton is a great-looking wide receiver prospect who will be a senior at Rayen this year. If Rayen can beat Canfield on Thursday of week one, they could go on to having a tremendous season.

JohnnyBuckeye (Jun 16, 2006 7:21:49 PM)
I know I am in the minority when talking to other people, but I think we will definitely go back to a more ball controlled run-oriented offense this year, even with all of the weapons we have (Troy, Teddy, Gonzo,etc..) With a defense as young as we will be, I don't think we will see nearly as much fireworks as people think. As a result, I think we could very well end up with two 1000 yard rushers in Pittman & Wells. Do you agree?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:21:49 PM)
I couldn't have said it any better myself JohnnyBuckeye. The only good thing about that is that when they go to the air, it should be lethel. Controlling the ball and the time of possession will be JT's number one priority during the early part of the season this year.

yooperbuck (Jun 16, 2006 7:23:37 PM)
I'm thinking this may be a surprise year for recruiting in michigan as we are in on serveral players. One thing I see is that although the buckeyes may not be loved here, they have won a tremendos amount of respect over the last several years. Our win over ND in the Fiesta was very well taken. Couple that with the shakiness of both um and msu coaching, and suddenly tosu looks very different than it used to.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:23:37 PM)
I think OSU has a good shot at Allen and Washington from St. Mary's. I think OSU is in good shape with Barksdale also. Anything more than that would be a bonus.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 7:24:03 PM)
It sounds like Kyle Jefferson has finally gaining some confidence in his abilities huh?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:24:03 PM)
It sure looks like it osufan.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:26:16 PM)
I had an interesting evening earlier tonight. I sat in on interviews with Bill Fralic, the chairperson of the Big 33 this year, and with Charlie Weis. I have to admit I don't necessarily care for Weis' style, but I enjoyed what he had to say tonight.

osufan27 (Jun 16, 2006 7:26:59 PM)
How is Dante Whitner's brother progressing?

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:27:00 PM)
Dawawn is doing good but he wasn't on the Tour.

GaryHousteau (Jun 16, 2006 7:29:05 PM)
That's it for tonight guys. Thanks to you all for participating in the chat tonight and as always thank you for reading through the chat at a later time. As far as the Big 33 is concerned, I give the PA team as much as a two TD advantage going in. I think Derrell Johnson will be Ohio's MVP. It could be a long night in Hershey for the good guys. I hope I'm wrong. Go Bucks!
