Tyus Returns From Florida

Forward Alex Tyus of Cincinnati Harmony Prep just returned from a visit with his family to the University of Florida. The Gators are high on his list of choices, along with Ohio State. Where do things stand after his visit?

Alex Tyus returned this past weekend from a trip to Gainesville. He did so with two teams in mind.

Any time the defending national champions get a recruit on campus, the chances are pretty good he will walk away being rather impressed. That's no different for the 6-8 Tyus of Cincinnati Harmony Prep.

As the No. 35-ranked player in the country in the class of 2007 by ScoutHoops.com, Tyus is entertaining offers from many of the top schools in the nation.

One of those schools, Florida, had Tyus on campus this past weekend.

"It went pretty well," he said of the visit to Florida. "I was able to workout, see the team play, hang out with the players, see the academic advisers, met all of the coaches, took a tour of campus, I got to see the dorms, the facilities, pretty much everything."

Tyus visited with his parents. They left their home in St. Louis on Thursday and stayed on their unofficial trip to Florida until Saturday afternoon.

The trip comes on the heels of an unofficial visit that Tyus took without his family last month to Ohio State. He hopes to go back to Columbus this weekend or next weekend for another visit – this time with his parents.

"There's still a good chance that I will (take the visit)," Tyus said. "I haven't got to talk to them (Ohio State) yet to find out the exact date we're coming. Hopefully soon, maybe this weekend or next."

After returning from Florida, Tyus still says he would like to make a final decision by the end of the month. That means a trip to Ohio State could be followed by a verbal commitment somewhere, soon after he returns.

If he commits anywhere, the list of possible schools hasn't changed a whole lot.

"Memphis, Illinois, Ohio State, Florida and I guess Texas," he said of the schools he was considering.

And as to the rumors of Kansas being involved he added, "I've heard a little bit from other people about Kansas, but I haven't heard directly from them."

According to Tyus, there really isn't any leader just yet nor does he have an idea of where he's going.

However, after having visited Florida with his family and also trips to Ohio State and Illinois in the past, he was at least willing to give somewhat of a guess where he would be interested in going if he had to decide today.

"Right now, I don't really know for sure," Tyus said. "But since I've visited Ohio State by myself and Florida with my family, I guess I would have to give the edge to Florida. But that could change when I go to Ohio State with my entire family."

Next month, Tyus will be in attendance at the Reebok ABCD Camp. He is not attending the NBA Player's Camp this week.

Tyus plays with North College Hill stars O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker on the D-1 Greyhounds. He is the No. 13 power forward in the class of 2007 by ScoutHoops.com, although he insists he wants to play as a wing at the next level.

As far as Ohio State is concerned, Tyus could potentially be the fourth player to commit for the class of 2007 joining Jon Diebler, Dallas Lauderdale and Kosta Koufos. Ohio State is expected to take four players with room for a possible fifth.

Florida is expected to be willing to take Tyus even after commitments from Adam Allen and Dan Werner. Both schools look to be in it until the finish.
