Hi Bob, What is the word on Blankenship? How does his weight look?
TylerHarman (Jun 26, 2006 10:52:59 AM)
Bob I would like to know what your downfall on Blankenship is?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 10:53:38 AM)
Jim...Blankenship looked a lot better, he told me he was sick the morning of the camp, but he still showed up and worked out, That shows guts on his part
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 10:54:53 AM)
My downfall is he needs to show more explosiveness, Blankenship is fundamentally solid. he also has to show he can control the weight
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 10:53:46 AM)
Welcome Bob, who is the hot name in the midwest this year? Seemed like it was PSU last year scUM the year before we were the name in 2002 (with Hawk Clarett etc..)
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 10:56:36 AM)
Buckgrad... PSU just landed Sukay 20 minutes ago they have 5-four star commits they seem to be doing well...i think the buckeyes will have a strong class as well..Ryan mallet is a recruiting machine at Michigan, he is working OT trying toi get folks to follow him.
ohs (Jun 26, 2006 10:53:59 AM)
out of the recent offers of the ohio kids, boom, devon, th WR from toledo, solomon, seems like they all are likely Ohio State, no?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:00:35 AM)
I think Herron could be a Buckeye, possibly as soon as today. Torrence will likely be a Buckeye, he told me that if he is not drafted in the first five rounds of the MLB draft next year it will be football for him. I have not talked to Sanzenbacher, but I would think the Buckeyes would have an edge in the end on an Ohio kid over Iowa. Thomas seems like a likely Buckeye as well. he seemed very comfortablke at OSU on Friday
ohs (Jun 26, 2006 11:00:41 AM)
did we make any offers out of state kids? i keep hearing only about in state ones?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:01:55 AM)
Those are the only one's that i have heard of so far from Friday. I have not had a lot of time to talk to my sources and find out if there were any others as of yet
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:01:59 AM)
Bob, what do you think of the offer we just made to Dane S.?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:03:02 AM)
That one caught me by surprise a little bit, but he is one of those kids who has been solid at the camps and his stock has kind of sky rocketed
TylerHarman (Jun 26, 2006 11:03:06 AM)
What are the chances Taurian Washington gets his offer today? The coaches are supposed to let him know whats up today.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:04:16 AM)
I like Taurian a lot , i think it is a very solid offer. It will help with Dionte Allen as well. i think the buckeyes have a shot with Allen. I know everyone says he is a Michigan lean, but the buckeyes are still in that one.
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:05:38 AM)
I will say that you should also listen for the Bucknuts Radio Hour this week with segments with Duane Long and Ross Lucksinger of Inside Texas and Nick Claytor, the OL from Georgia ...
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:06:22 AM)
And also listen for the Recruiting Roundtable with segments with Gary Housteau and Bob Lichtenfels and also a nice 40-minute recruiting discussion between myself, Mr. B, Duane and Kirk Larrabee. Some really good stuff.
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:06:35 AM)
What do you think about the QBs in the Ohio/PA/Mich. area? Who do you think is the best and do you think any of them end up at OSU? Thanks
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:08:54 AM)
Ohio doesn't appear real strong at QB. i like Chris Smith. PA has a few solid ones. bostick obviously has already committed. Nate Brown is a sleeper kid from Harrisburg, 6-5/210 really athletic. Cody Endres I like from Trinity where Andy Miller is from. he may be this years Ricky Stanzi.
kleintime16 (Jun 26, 2006 11:09:15 AM)
Hey Bob - just an outside question, how do you feel about Texas basically finalizing all recruiting before July!!!! That seems a little crazy with how players develop, it seems to me sort of like putting all your eggs in one basket
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:09:46 AM)
Keith Nichol from michigan already committed as has Cody catalina from PA, so the pickings are getting slimmer
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:12:37 AM)
Klein...You have to take advantage of being the hot team, obviosuly coming off a national championship gives you a boost in recruiting. Most of that state prefers to stay in-state and that will always be the biggest mainstay for the Longhorns is getting the top in-state players. i like what they have done, but you also still have to recruit those kids just like any others. Once they commit teams are still on them, so it puts you on the spot and having to hold on to them until February. Where it really helps is for 2008 they can now focus a lot of attention towards those efforts
FlaBuck (Jun 26, 2006 11:12:52 AM)
Hi bob, sorry if this was already asked , what do you thikn our chances are on OL this year, namely Blakenship, Barksdale, and Claytor?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:16:00 AM)
Barksdale i see as a Buckeye, Claytor I always say if a kid travels clear for. Blankenship I think he is a Pitt/OSU battle
ImBack45 (Jun 26, 2006 11:16:05 AM)
Hi Bob, Just curious, who is your highest rated player in Pennsylvania OSU has a legit shot at signing? Thx.!
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:17:25 AM)
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:17:28 AM)
Bob, what do you think of Saine? Mixed opinions on him, it seems like he is coming in as a slot guy, do you feel he is a Ted Ginn type of gamebreaker? Is he just a track guy?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:19:02 AM)
I do think he has ted Ginn game breaking ability. I don't think he is a pure RB, as most of you know i am very high on Dan Herron as the top back in the state. Saine can develp into that type of back, it will just take some time, which he should have with Chris Wells being the go-to guy
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:19:07 AM)
Hi Bob - Following up, if coming off a national championship gives you a recruiting boost, do you think that boost happened in Ohio State's case a few years back and if not, why not? Thank you.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:20:44 AM)
well redondo yes and no, you also have to remember that all the talk about Clarett and the various ESPN stories kind of put a damper on that momentum, so i don't think they had the chance to fully capitalize on it
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:21:12 AM)
Hi Bob - Looking at Ohio State's recruiting compared to other elite programs, are there any "blind spots" or other areas where the Buckeyes could be doing a better job than they are doing? If so, what would those be, in your opinion? Thank you.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:23:33 AM)
I thought last year they missed on a few Ohio kids that could have helped them, but they offered late. i think they have made an effort to make sure they scour the state and offer who they want at home before branching out into other areas. You have to dominate your state first and then branch out. I'm kind of surprised they have not made a more significant push in Pennsylvania this year
FlaBuck (Jun 26, 2006 11:23:38 AM)
Bob what do you think about CJ Peake?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:25:07 AM)
I like Peake, he is a big kid who can play man-to-man. He will come up and hit you. He has all the tools to be great. he is dominant in press coverage
kleintime16 (Jun 26, 2006 11:25:10 AM)
Does Penn State get Andrew Dailey?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:26:09 AM)
As it looks right now if OSU and ND don't offer I think they do, even if those two do offer now they could still land him.
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:26:15 AM)
Hi Bob - Who do you think the "must haves" are for the Buckeyes in this recruiting class on each side of the ball? Thank you.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:29:31 AM)
Clifford, Peake, Claytor or another big time lineman or two like O'Dowd or Wilson possibly. It looks like they get Herron, who may not seem like a need, but he is important because it keeps PSU and Michigan from getting him. Ben martin obviously is a big time get and they would love to have him. I think a few big time DB's seem like the most wanted right now
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:29:40 AM)
Are there going to be any other B10 teams making some noise in recruiting this year? OSU scUM and PSU pretty much dominated last year. Iowa had one good year a couple of years ago. Anybody sneaking in there this year or those 3 battling for the top spot?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:30:07 AM)
I don't see it right now
tj (Jun 26, 2006 11:30:13 AM)
Bob, I just joined so this may have already been addressed. How will PSU be this year? They lose a lot of leadership and a lot off of their O and D lines, which IMO are the most important units. They have great LB's but as OSU found out in '04 you need a solid D Line to utilize those LB's. I think 8-4 would be a good regular season for them.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:31:26 AM)
I could see 8-4 maybe 7-5, a lot depends on Morelli and that offensive line
FlaBuck (Jun 26, 2006 11:31:29 AM)
Ben Martin? I kept hearing nd, then BM was at least considering OSU. Have you heard anything different?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:32:18 AM)
I keep hearing ND as well, but I won't sell JT short on an Ohio kid
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:32:27 AM)
Hi Bob - Is Ohio State, in your mind, doing an effective job countering the re-doubled recruiting effort in Ohio that Charlie Weis and ND initiated? Thank you.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:34:24 AM)
Yes, ND is hot right now, but you still have to get it done on the field. They did well last year but OSU beat them and its been a while since they won a bowl game. Kid's seem to really be into the instant gratification factor. unless OSU would struggle, I can't see anyone owning Ohio but them
kleintime16 (Jun 26, 2006 11:34:32 AM)
Why the lack of midwesterners in the scout 100????? When they are re-evaluated later in the year can we expect more? Why is Barksdale positioned as an OL?????
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:37:06 AM)
I wondered how long it would take for that question to be asked.. Honestly, I was suprised by that a little bit I think ben martin and Eugene Clifford are the top two players in the state, to me that warrants a higher spot in the rankings, but everyone sees things differently. I have talked to multiple coaches including coaches who are actively recruiting Barksdale and they all say OL. My guess is he is adamnat about DL so that is what he is being told
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:37:32 AM)

buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:37:37 AM)
Do you think the FB (Hynoski I think) gets an offer from us? Do you think he is worth an OSU offer?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:38:06 AM)
I think he is worth an offer at OSU
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:38:20 AM)
Hi Bob - Has the Buckeyes migration to the spread-option offense had a significant positive impact on recruiting offensive talent, or do recruits see it as a "me too" move resulting in little to no impact? Thank you.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:38:38 AM)
I can't say it's an OSU-PSU battle until they offer. Right now it may be an Iowa-Pitt-Rutgers battle
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:39:13 AM)
I don't think it has had any significant impact
buckgrad (Jun 26, 2006 11:39:17 AM)
8-4 7-5 prediction on PSU from you, give us your prediction for OSU and scUM.

Well played (ha ha) ... anything else today for Bob???
kleintime16 (Jun 26, 2006 11:40:51 AM)
OSU is set with one big game per year for about a decade and I've been reading that other schools are following suit, Tenn/Neb and so on, what schools would you like to see go at it
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:42:01 AM)
Maybe Penn State and Pitt, it's a shame they don't play.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:42:16 AM)
Being from PA, Pitt and Penn State its a war amongst the fans to this day. they haven't played since 1999 but you'd never know it. It is a great rivalry
baddis1029 (Jun 26, 2006 11:42:27 AM)
Bob, I know you're not as high on Blankenship as the OSU staff, but what do you think it is about him that puts him so high on their list? Thanks in advance
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:43:31 AM)
He has camped their a few times, maybe he has shined a little more in camp then he has on film. He is not bad, it's just a stacked year for linemen in pennsylvania.

BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:45:13 AM)
I like Schepis, they may offer a few if others fall of the board nationally
kleintime16 (Jun 26, 2006 11:45:26 AM)
I saw OSU beats PSU 42-14 next year, much in the same fashion as OSU - NW this past year. Does that sound about right?

tj (Jun 26, 2006 11:46:23 AM)
UM at PSU - Night Game, who wins? I would think that environment would be similar to what OSU endured last year, if so I have to think PSU but it is UM and PSU simply can not beat them.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:47:36 AM)
White out, beaver Stadium rocking a huge recruiting weekend. But I am still taking the Wolverines in that one
baddis1029 (Jun 26, 2006 11:47:45 AM)
can you talk a little bit about the disparity in talent between eastern and western pennsylvania?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:48:15 AM)
Of course i said they'd be 6-5 last year and they were 11-1, so game prognostication is not my strong suit...lol
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:49:21 AM)
Eastern PA has great teams, over the past few years Western Pa has just had more talent, not by a lot but enough. Central Pa is also producing a number of talented players now as well. so it's pretty split up
Texas Bucknet (Jun 26, 2006 11:49:31 AM)
Do you think the Buckeyes are looking at the Texas game as a revenge game this year?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:49:46 AM)
I should say Individual talent
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:50:37 AM)
Without a doubt...Tressel will be like Mick in the Rocky movies..You gotta go out there and eat lightning and crap thunder..The Buckeyes will be fired up for that one

Who do you think would have won the Big 33 this year if all of Ohio's best players had been playing?
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:52:06 AM)
Great loaded question (ha ha). I imagine Chris Wells and Ross Homan would have helped, too.
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:52:41 AM)
If the game actually picked the best players and their were no injuries, i would have to say it would be close but i would say PA this year
redondo (Jun 26, 2006 11:52:52 AM)
Bob - Do you personally think that timekeeping cost PSU the Michigan game last year adn the UM win was not legit?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:53:35 AM)
all that matters is W's and l's, if you lead when the clock expires you win so to me that's legit.
baddis1029 (Jun 26, 2006 11:53:43 AM)
OSU had great success in PA several years ago when they grabbed 4 top prospects. Why is recruiting so spotty in PA for OSU, and do you think Tressel has made it a priority?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:54:42 AM)
I think they have made it more of a priority to be more dominant in Ohio. PSU is more active in PA this year and Wannstedt has hurt because he has recruited well in-state

Texas Bucknet (Jun 26, 2006 11:55:59 AM)
Fired up is great for the Texas game. But even though it is a night game, chances are it will still be in the 90's by kickoff if not hotter. Does that play a factor for the Buckeyes and will they be ready for the Texas heat?
BobLichtenfels (Jun 26, 2006 11:57:49 AM)
Normally, i would say yes. But after spending a few hours in the Woody hayes center, that place is hotter than hell itself, so I think they'll be ready. texas is more of a dry heat, it's not like Georgia or other southern states with all the humidity
SteveHelwagen (Jun 26, 2006 11:58:28 AM)
