Good afternoon to all!
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 10:54:13 AM)
The high school football season is just around the corner and our beloved Buckeyes get underway shortly thereafter. I've been busy trying to get to some high school practices and 7-on-7's as of late and OSU has their media day in less than two weeks so the question I have for you..."Are you ready for some football?"
jeffrey lebowski (Jul 28, 2006 10:55:25 AM)
whats the word on washing to? did he commit? i am also a member to rivals and they dont have him as a commitment. i see that you talked to his grandmother...have you been abole to speak with washington yet? whay doesnt osu offer jerremiah?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 10:55:25 AM)
Hi jeffrey lebowski...how did I know I would see this question somewhere along the line today...
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 10:56:47 AM)
For starters I have not spoken with Taurian Washington. I had been trying to reach him independantly from Duane and Kyle prior to this big event taking place but I was not able to contact him in the few chances I had taken.
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:00:45 AM)
I do have a very solid connection connection with someone very close to the St. Mary's program and I have spoken to that person since Duane and Kyle broke their news. I'll just say the situation is what it is with regard to Taurian! If that sounds like I'm dodging that question, then I'm sorry. As far as your question with Jeremiah? I'm guessing he's still under consideration but I have nothing new to report on him.
buckicray (Jul 28, 2006 11:01:56 AM)
What's the chances of OSU landing either RB Clay, or Hughes? Also how long will C. Wells be at OSU?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:01:56 AM)
Hi buckicray...IMHO I believe OSU has two chances to land both Clay and Hughes...slim and none! How long will Beanie be at OSU...For his sake, I hope just three years!
mckbuckeye (Jul 28, 2006 11:04:17 AM)
Next years OL class is a great looking class. Who do we have the inside track on getting to verbal early?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:04:18 AM)
Hi mckbuckeye...from what I know...OSU has a great chance on Adams and Sanders and that's the important thing. Now if Brewster and and Texas kid come eventually join the fold...I'm not complaining at all about that. That would be too good to be true. But I think OSU is in good shape with Adams and Sanders.
mckbuckeye (Jul 28, 2006 11:06:00 AM)
Hey Gary, Any news at all on Oden - are we really looking toward January for his return?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:06:00 AM)
As far as I know...and basketball isn't my forte...January is still the projected return date for Oden. But I'm sure Kyle knows that answer for sure.
buckgrad (Jul 28, 2006 11:08:29 AM)
Gary whats happening? What are the odds that following redshirt this year, Small, Browning and Rose?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:08:29 AM)
Hi buckgrad...I think both Small and Browning could redshirt this year. I would say Browning definitely, Small possibly and Rose...that's a negative! I can't see OSU keeping Rose off the field this year in some capacity. And I think the only way Small doesn't redshirt is if he returns kicks this year. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he does not redshirt.
Guest (Jul 28, 2006 11:12:14 AM)
what is new on the t. washington front......? you mentioned you made some pals from that program during the osu camp....what are you hearing if anything?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:12:14 AM)
Downtown Frankie...There's not much that I can say about it right now except for the fact that the Washington camp is publicly denying they've committed to OSU. Duane and Kyle had their sources and they went with it.
buckgrad (Jul 28, 2006 11:17:43 AM)
Youve been about dead on with Glenville kids, will Hines be a part of this recruiting class?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:17:43 AM)
Hi buckgrad...what do you mean "about dead on"? To be honest about it, I give out too much Glenville information, more than some people deserve obviously because they can't handle the truth. I was dead on right about Small the entire time. Everything I've been told by him and my peeps at Glenville is 100 percent accurate. I even apologized on one of our threads on the message boards when I thought what I was told was wrong and passed along some incorrect information...but it turns out what I was told was 100 percent right. That being said...If Hines gets an offer, and I believe it's only an academic issue at this point, he will be a Buckeye. No question.
FloridaBuck (Jul 28, 2006 11:21:42 AM)
If we do get washington, what are the chances we land his teammate? I would think that would help.....
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:21:43 AM)
Now you're talking FloridaBuck...all bets are off if Washington officially commits to Ohio State in late to mid-August (wink). I've been saying all along that Gant + Washington = Allen. Is it possible to have three peas to a pod? Now I won't stand behind that firmly because Allen is a bit of an enigma to me...but I certainly believe it is genuinely and sincerely possible. Especially if OSU takes the Wolves out to the shed and beats the tar out of them in Columbus this year! So to answer your question Florida...you betcha it would help!
jeffery lebowski (Jul 28, 2006 11:24:44 AM)
i see all of the dbs that we are offering...if you had a prediction which blue chippers whould you say that we land...thanks for your time
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:24:44 AM)
I like to stick with the homies first and foremost and get official commitments from guys like Torrence and Clifford and then worry about Allen...an OOS guy OSU has a real solid chance with. And if Johnson's grades are not an issue and if he determines that Allen might be strongly interested in Ohio State... then he would be a candidate as well. Beyond that I can't get excited about these flavor of the month names from OOS who come and go. Chekwa was even considered until the end of the season last year.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 11:26:49 AM)
will our reporting the committ ultimately hurt our chances of getting washington?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:26:49 AM)
Hi ohs...I believe NOT!
buckgrad (Jul 28, 2006 11:32:48 AM)
Ginn=about 15 plays per game on defense this year???
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:32:48 AM)
That's a very optimistic number even for me. I think you'll see him in the Red Zone at the beginning of the season. Very situational. Again, I think it's kind of sad that we don't get to see the kind of defensive player that Teddy could be for Ohio State. Playing cornerback is in his blood and it's such a major tribute to him, people don't give him the credit, that he's sacrificing his passion for the good of the team. Teddy is the best all-around...offensive, defensive and special teams included, high school player that I've ever had the privilege of watching play. No one else comes close in all three facets. If you're worried about injuries...nonsense...this is football. Teddy is no fragile little guy out there anymore. He's likely to be a top NFL CB in the future and he might never play the position at Ohio State. But I do think we will see him situationally this year...at least I hope so.
BuckeyeBK (Jul 28, 2006 11:36:03 AM)
Gary, are you planning on attending all of the OSU home games this year? Will we see some of your great photography?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:36:03 AM)
Hi BK...nice to hear from you again...hope all is well in your personal situation...please shoot me an update when you have the chance. You're too kind about the photography comment but I appreciate the kind words. I'm out there hacking away but it's exciting. It's one of my passions and some day I hope to be really good at it. It's amazing what better equipment does for you. But I still have quite a ways to go. And yes I will be at all the home games and a couple of the away games.
mdbuck (Jul 28, 2006 11:41:45 AM)
Hello Havent been in on a chat for a while, Do you think we are the #1 team in the country and with so much lost on defence. I must admit i nervous ( always am) we expect a lot from the offence and has never really happened. But i must admit with Wells added could be interesting. We no how valuable MC was.
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:41:45 AM)
Hi mdbuck...thanks for chatting with us today...I can't really say with certainty that OSU is the number one team in the country but I have to believe the Buckeyes are a very legitimate candidate to be #1 in the country. They can make a great case for it with an almost unstoppable offense and a solid defense that will be anchored by the D-line this year. I really like the speed and athleticism of the young defense. And how can you realistically stop this offense. If you give OSU the run game, they'll punish you with Pittman and Wells and if you take the run away...or try to take the run away...they can kill you over the top with Troy and Teddy and Gonzo et al. I like the fact the expectations are really high for this offense and I'm comfortable with the fact that T. Smith is leading the way. We should all expect greatness from the offense this year and if they don't produce we should all be very upset! How's that for setting the bar?
buckeyeinsaline (Jul 28, 2006 11:44:57 AM)
Gary, Chat question that I thought was a good one.. Which recruit do the Buckeyes NEED MOST?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:44:58 AM)
Hi buckeyeinsaline...If you're talking about last year's class I would Chris Wells. He was the number one guy in the country at his position and fills that Big Ten power back need so well. And this year I would say Ben Martin. Like Wells, you just have to get the best player in the state every year. Every year.
buckicray (Jul 28, 2006 11:47:35 AM)
I'm a big L. Wilson fan and loved the way he got after the QB in the AA game. Is he going to be the main DE this year?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:47:35 AM)
Hi buckicray...do you mean Robert Rose? If so no I don't think he will be the main DE this year but he will get his feet wet in a similar manner to what Lawrence Wilson did last year. I really like both of these two physical specimens a lot.
jeffery lebowski (Jul 28, 2006 11:51:38 AM)
can you tell me the jersey numbers for all the incoming freshman that you know of?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:51:38 AM)
The roster with the freshmen included can be found on Ohio State's website... Small is four, Rose is nine...Gibson 37...Browning 70...those are just a few off the top of my head.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 11:53:00 AM)
sorry to be late, I'm sure everyone has asked but I assume that we will eventually get the WR from Michigan or has he already committed?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:53:01 AM)
It depends who you ask...but yes I am under the assumption that OSU eventually gets Washington.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 11:55:12 AM)
with Haw gone who returns kicks? will small?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:55:13 AM)
Small is a possibility. He has to be really good at it to burn his redshirt I would guess. But he is good at it so we shall see. I like guys like Jamario O'Neal and Jenkins and Anderson Russell. We shall see. I know that Small believes that he is good enough to return kicks this year so we will just have to wait and see how it turns out.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 11:57:02 AM)
is blankenship going to be good/worth the offer?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 11:57:02 AM)
I certainly believe so because he was liked by the staff for a long time and I'm certain they got the kind of player they were after in Blankenship. I'm a big Bollman fan...I really am!
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 12:01:08 PM)
will we get any OT's in this class? we need them!!!
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:01:08 PM)
I don't really think OSU needs an abundance of tackles right now because Boone and Skinner are young guys and Barton has another year if he so chooses. Rehring could always play tackle if you need him to also...so could Browning. But yes Claytor would be a good addition to this class for instance. I think the staff knows they will probably get Adams and Sanders after next year so they are overly concerned for this year. I would hope the staff reels in at least one offensive tackle this year.
tflo999 (Jul 28, 2006 12:02:59 PM)
Any news on how Andrew Miller, the big TE from Trinity HS, in Washington PA is progressing in terms of development??
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:02:59 PM)
Hi tflo999, I personally won't see him until media day but he's one of the guys I intend to eyeball and say hello to. I've only seen him one time in person and that was at the spring game. I have no insight in terms of his progress or development. Sorry!
buckicray (Jul 28, 2006 12:05:43 PM)
How are the backup QB's shaping up? Do you think JT will go with rookie or vet next year?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:05:44 PM)
It could be a tough transition overall offensively but I think JT would likely go with a guy that's been in the program for a while initially. But if Hento is as good as some people say he is, then you never know. I really like Schoenhoft from watching him perform in the past and Boeckman has done nothing but prove that he's more than capable if he gets the nod so it could be a tough battle next spring. As long as the new guy is able to hand the ball off to Wells, and Pittman if he's still around, then he should be okay.
Mike68 (Jul 28, 2006 12:10:55 PM)
Gary- Are there any "under the radar" kids in the senior class in Ohio that we should keep an eye on as longshot possibilities (i.e. barton, spitler, b. smith) for offers late in the recruiting season?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:10:55 PM)
Hi Mike...it's really hard for me to answer that question because I really don't know what the staff is thinking...but for the life of me...I can't figure out why any of the kids from Moeller don't get any props or publicity state wide. I think they have at the very least, four tremendous football players on their roster including Brian Lane who has great size and is a football player. I think that Moeller could be a very good football team...good enough to represent the South in D-I if they have any kind of an offense this year.
BuckeyeBK (Jul 28, 2006 12:13:04 PM)
Gary: Anyone from Glenville a Buckeye this year?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:13:04 PM)
I would guess Hines at the very minimum...outside chance for Jefferson and maybe even someone like Eric Thomas if he has a breakout season there.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 12:14:36 PM)
do we get martin and clifford at this point?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:14:36 PM)
At least one of two for sure if not both?
mdbuck (Jul 28, 2006 12:15:30 PM)
When does practice start.
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:15:30 PM)
They report the 7th I believe and the media day is the 10th. I got a e-mail about it last week but I haven't really looked at it yet. But I think those are the dates.
ohs (Jul 28, 2006 12:17:05 PM)
are you concerned now about RB depth without Haw?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:17:05 PM)
Not really Pittman and Beanie are two durable guys and M. Wells give them a pair and a spare. Sure Haw would be great to have around but I think those three will suffice.
osufan27 (Jul 28, 2006 12:21:04 PM)
Gary, any inside info on the big guys that OSU is after like Martin, Barksdale, S. Thomas, L. Davis and Jeremiah?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:21:04 PM)
Hi osufan27... I think Barksdale looks really good for OSU while Martin, Thomas and Jeremiah are in the ball game...I think Davis is out. I'm intrigued by Hull from Bedford...I sure believe he deserves a look...he could be the diamond in the rough at defensive tackle and maybe someone who gets a late look or offer from the staff...going back to that question a while back.
Guest (Jul 28, 2006 12:23:02 PM)
Hi Gary! I'm sure this has been touched on but I was late to the chat. What's the latest news on T. Washington and his buddies Dionte Allen and Ron Johnson.
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:23:03 PM)
I sort of addressed it earlier...I think a Washington commitment bodes well for any chances with Allen which would then bode well for any chances with Johnson if he indeed is not an academic casualty. So should OSU fans get greedy? Certainly not...but it's better than a remote possibility.
kleintime16 (Jul 28, 2006 12:29:06 PM)
Gary - (got to the chat late so if this q has been asked then you can disregard it) - it seems like this year it is possible that NO players from glenville could earn a scholarship. With that being said, how is the 08 class looking talentwise and who, if any are possible buckeye offers/ leans at this time?
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:29:06 PM)
Wow klein...they have more than a few prospects starting with Shaq Rowell whose going to start the year playing offensive tackle. I hope he plays some at defensive tackle as well. Cordale Scott is a talented receiver prospect who's played some quarterback also. Dawawn Whitner is likely to be a solid recruit. And they have a slew of speed guys in that class as well. I don't believe Eric Simmons will have much of an impact this year if he's even on the roster.
GaryHousteau (Jul 28, 2006 12:32:40 PM)
With that last question I have to call it a day. I want to once again express my thanks to those of you who stopped by to participate in the chat and for those of you who take the time to read it later on. We're getting close to our favorite time of the year and I'm so very much looking forward to this very special season that is ahead of us. Have a great day and an even better weekend! Smile! Go Bucks!
