Photo Gallery : Final Weekend Scrimmages

On the final weekend for high school football teams to scrimmage in Ohio before the season gets underway, Gary Housteau checked in on Glenville, St. Edward and Warren G. Harding who were all in action on Friday. And here's how some of the action from the entire day looked like in pictures. A few of the big names and some of the other players he spotted are showcased in this photo gallery.

Glenville showed off some of its new offensive weaponry at Warrensville Heights. Chaz Jones, Jermale Hines, Torieal Gibson and Kyle Jefferson are pictured here.

Hines has the ability to be lethal in the air...

...or on the ground.

Ted Ginn shares a few words of instruction to pass along to his new quarterback.

Jefferson gives Hines a legitimate down-the-field threat.

Jefferson may be doing some kicking for Glenville this year. On this kick he missed an extra point wide left.

Glenville is hoping junior Cordale Scott will become the outside threat opposite Jefferson.

Gibson, another junior, is slated to fill one of the slot positions.

Jones gives the Tarblooders a strong presence in the offensive backfield for their rushing game.

Curtis Hale will get his share of carries also.

Up front, Eric Thomas, Shawntel Rowell and Lebron Daniel will all be responsible to help protect Hines in the passing game and open up holes in the ground attack.

Rowell, just a junior, is big and nasty.

Rowell is actually one of two gentle giants on the front line for Glenville...

...the other is sophomore Marcus Hall. Hall sat out Friday's scrimmage with a shoulder injury.

But it's Hines who can do it all. He'll play linebacker and even some safety on defense for the Tarblooders. He has to be considered a leading candidate for Mr. Football going into the season.

Linebacker Bruce Davis is another leader of the defense.

Winston Etheridge is another top defender at linebacker for Glenville.

Etheride is another talented member of the school's junior class.

Hassan Crutcher is an unhearalded member of the Glenville defense but he's very effective on the defensive line nonetheless.

Otis Merrill is one of their two starting cornerbacks.

Donnie Fletcher, another junior, is a leading candidate to be the other corner.

Daniel, #99 pictured here, will occupy one defensive end position opposite Thomas.

St. Edward traveled to Elyria to take on the Pioneers for their scrimmage.

Frank Edmonds went 51 yards on this play, the very first offensive play for the Eagles in the game-conditions half that they played.

Running back Jaa'Rome Williams, one of Elyria's top players, is brought down by junior Justin Staples on this play.

Staples, 6-3 1/2 and 220 pounds, is certain to be one of the state's top prospects at OLB next season.

Danny Noble's stock has been rising up the charts this year.

Elyria coach Mark Solis is fielding inquiries from many D-I schools about this relative unknown senior who plays OLB and WR and measures 6-5 and weighs 210 pounds.

Jordan Thomas is another top senior for Elyria.

Kyle Hubbard is a nice-looking target out wide...

...if new quarterback Alex Strebo can get it to him.

The Eagles have to be able to run the ball effectively or their season could be a big disappointment.

Ben Rios has a booming leg and has to be considered one of the top kickers in the state.

Mark Spooner is another talented junior linebacker for St. Edward.

Chase Mason is Elyria's other running back threat.

Elyria drove the ball right down the field as time was winding down when Williams punched it in the endzone to make the score 14-12 in favor of the Eagles but Elyria missed the two-point conversion and the game ended that way.

Ohio State commit Nate Oliver was held out of the game because of an ankle injury.

Warren G. Harding's Danny Herron was up next as the Raiders hosted Mentor and Hoover at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Boom Herron, as they call him, warmed up with the team before the scrimmage but did not partipate in the action.

Sidney Glover, who has verbally committed to Indiana, helps Herron with his equipment in this picture.

But it turns out that Herron didn't need any equipment as he stood on the sideline for the duration of the scrimmage.

Marlin Parker is another top Raider prospect.

So is Chris Rucker who plays wide receiver and cornerback for the Raiders.

Trevis Owens is another fine wide receiver/corner prospect for Harding.

Chris Anzevino, #55, gives the Raiders good size on the line on both sides of the ball...

And Luke George is a good-looking quarterback/defensive end prospect for the Raiders.

Mentor should get stellar two-way play from Brady DeMell and Steve Matas all season long.

DeMell can play inside or on the end on defense.

Matas has great size at tackle.

Junior Bart Tanski is Mentor's field general who will lead the offense in a four-wide spread offense.

J.J. Laseak is a junior linebacker in on this play.

Hoover junior quarterback Jared Wackerly

Junior running back Phillip Howard.

Junior running back Dan Rambacher on the carry.
