Ok, give us the latest Ben Martin news!
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:49:07 AM)
the latest that I've gotten on Martin is that if the choice was made today it would be Ohio State.....
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 9:50:01 AM)
NB. Any word on ARam? I thought he'd hit the ground blockin', but haven't heard his name mentioned.
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:51:28 AM)
he is hanging in there....he will be a redshirt barring something unforseen---but he will be something to see in a couple of seasons......
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 9:51:43 AM)
Would a win over Texas give us Barksdale?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:53:01 AM)
no...I think we get Barksdale whether we beat Texas or not.....LOL....no recruit will be impacted by the results of any one game......
kleintime16 (Aug 23, 2006 9:53:07 AM)
Hey Nevada - what is the deal with all the 2008 O Line talk? care to shed any light as to what is going down?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:54:37 AM)
I've been saying for some time that the 2008 OLine class could very well be the finest in the history of tOSU....we are in very very good shape for Adams, Brewster, Long, Sanders and Rowell(and in the game for Shugarts)------its all happening according to the plan....
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 9:54:42 AM)
How do you see the Heisman race?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:55:26 AM)
I think ND will have to stumble.....Quinn has to be considered the favorite....but Smith will be there until the end.....
dhillgrp (Aug 23, 2006 9:55:35 AM)
Word from Helpinghand is that Deonte Thompson is coming for two visits. What's your prediction here?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:56:13 AM)
I think we have a real shot with Thompson and a number of other great prospects down in Florida.....
LostScrollsinOhio (Aug 23, 2006 9:56:38 AM)
What is you honest assesment of practice the other night? Are you concerned?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:57:18 AM)
concerned??? not in the least....it was a practice......don't read too much into it.....
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 9:57:25 AM)
Nevada, are you hearing anything about Clayton, O'Dowd, Anthony Davis, or Still?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:58:03 AM)
ODowd and Davis are still in play...Still as well.....Claytor is not part of the plan......
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 9:58:08 AM)
Any chance of getting either Ronald Johnson or Donovan Warren?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 9:58:33 AM)
I would consider them both longshots.....
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 9:58:53 AM)
Any Cali guys the Bucks are looking at for the next recruiting class? Who would you recommend I go watch out here in SoCal?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:00:23 AM)
there are a couple of players at Mission Viejo to keep an eye on.....also go see a Redlands--Fontana game if you have the chance.....
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:00:29 AM)
Do you think that the Notre Dame defense will be any better (faster) this year?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:00:59 AM)
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:01:01 AM)
They couldn't be any worse (slower) (ha ha)
westonbuckeye (Aug 23, 2006 10:01:09 AM)
Any new info on our TB depth chart? Has Mo Wells shown any improvement?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:01:57 AM)
the depth chart still reads Pittman, Mo Wells and Chris Wells.......they will all play.....
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:02:03 AM)
Is Larry Grant learning the defense? Does he get on the field?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:02:30 AM)
Grant will play lots this year....the light is starting to go on.....
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 10:02:37 AM)
If Nichol would go down, would you think Stan White Jr. would become the next in line behind Smith?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:03:00 AM)
no I think Ballard would get the nod......
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:03:09 AM)
By not taking a QB this year does that indicate that we feel good about Robby S? Who are we looking at for next year's recruiting class? WE NEED A BIG TIME QB!
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:06 AM)
I think our depth at QB is as good as its ever been......all three can play.....
smu0104 (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:09 AM)
Afternoon nevada. What are your thoughts on Ginn sticking around for his senior year, but I don't see it. I don't buy the "he wants to win a title" or
smu0104 (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:12 AM)
"he wants his degree" talk. He will be a first round pick after this year and I think that is too much to turn down. Thoughts?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:43 AM)
virtually zero chance that Ginn sticks around...enjoy him this last season.....
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:44 AM)
Sticking with No. 7 ...
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:04:50 AM)
Does Ginn play any defense this year? When and in what kind of role?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:05:34 AM)
I would not be shocked to see Ginn play in certain red zone situations....but not in the beginning of the year......
westonbuckeye (Aug 23, 2006 10:05:45 AM)
Who is the #2 QB right now?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:06:00 AM)
buckballs (Aug 23, 2006 10:06:12 AM)
Were there any underlying issues with Hoobs? I was told he was offered a chance to play TE and would have immediately been in the two deep.
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:06:44 AM)
Hoobler made the right move for him personally. Best just to leave it at that......
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:06:55 AM)
Do we get any more pressure on the QB with out d-line this year? -I think that is the key to our defense this year.
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:07:55 AM)
we will be able to pressure the QB with a four man rush---I agree, this is a KEY to this year's defense.......best overall pass rush group(including the 2002 team) in some time...these guys can really bring it......
westonbuckeye (Aug 23, 2006 10:08:04 AM)
Whats the story with Dukes and Lyons?
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:08:15 AM)
Lyons may be out with shoulder?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:08:48 AM)
Dukes needs to be more disciplined(loads of talent)....Lyons needs to get healthy....
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:09:04 AM)
Are you hearing anything about our secondary? How does it shake out?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:09:54 AM)
It should start the year as Mitchell Patterson Jenkins and Washington....good group...but inexperienced....
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:10:07 AM)
Couple on Coleman ...
buckeyesforlife (Aug 23, 2006 10:10:10 AM)
Will Kurt Colman be the starter for the opener?
Toledobuck24 (Aug 23, 2006 10:10:16 AM)
Hey Nevada thanks for chatting with us. Question for you. You mentioned a long time ago that Kurt Coleman was a 5 Star recruit in the minds of the staff. All the reports from the Spring and Fall have showed just that. This Kid seems to be all over the place on the field. Any chance he becomes a starter sometime this season??
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:10:58 AM)
he will not start at the beginning of the season......but I would expect to see him in the nickle.....
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:11:14 AM)
How does the DE position work out this year? Does Rose or Worthington crack the top 3?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:12:15 AM)
Worthington probably not...but Rose for sure....look for Worthington to slide down to DT(Rose could as well--as he is just huge).....
Toledobuck24 (Aug 23, 2006 10:13:26 AM)
what recruits are getting close to committing, besides the great OL guys of 08?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:13:55 AM)
Thomas should be next

Does O'Neal finally put it all together with a good season? How much time does Russell get?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:15:51 AM)
Oneal and Russell will both be contributors this year....they just need live game reps
Toledobuck24 (Aug 23, 2006 10:16:26 AM)
Is Ray Small penciled into a KR or PR spot yet or is that still up in the air?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:17:06 AM)
still up in the air....TG and Mo Wells should start the year back there....but Small is fun to watch.....
NOBSY (Aug 23, 2006 10:17:13 AM)

nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:17:39 AM)
kleintime16 (Aug 23, 2006 10:17:55 AM)
With the recent transfers do you see the staff saving a lot more spots for the class that seems to be developing in 08, or are they going to try to get what they can in 07?
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:18:47 AM)
Along the same lines ...
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:18:52 AM)
How many kids do we end up taking this year? Next year?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:20:37 AM)
transfers are individual decisions about playing time and where young men want to go with their life....as for how it affects class size, I think we will seek balance to the degree that we can.......
ToledoBucknut (Aug 23, 2006 10:20:55 AM)
Nevada, gimme your starting Buckeye defense for the NIU game... so many will play, but who starts at DL, LB & Db's?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:22:49 AM)
Pitcock, Patterson, Richardson and Gholston Kerr, Freeman and Laurinatis Patterson, Mitchell, Jenkins and Washington........
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:22:59 AM)
Do we take any LBs this year? Dewey, Hines?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:23:40 AM)
Elliott will more than likely go the prep school route.....I think we take Hines......
Royal Flush47 (Aug 23, 2006 10:23:48 AM)
Is CJ Peake no longer being recruited by OSU?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:24:06 AM)
they are keeping an eye on Peake.......
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:24:17 AM)
I know that it is hard to determine how good a QB will be coming out of high school (and college for that matter), but why is it that we are never in the chase for the "5 star" kids?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:25:51 AM)
we are looking for QB's that fit our system--and our system is not a wide open throwing style(and those are the QB's that rack up the big numbers in HS and hence, get the five star status).....I wouldn't trade our three young guns for anyone's.....we are as deep in this position as we have been in a LONG time....
dhillgrp (Aug 23, 2006 10:26:05 AM)
Regarding the two RS freshmen DEs, Worthington and Williams, Doug looks like he's getting beefy enough to play DT. Do either slide inside in the future? If Doug is back from his injury, say 90%, where would Ryan be?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:27:13 AM)
worthington will more than likely slide down...he is probably 80-90%...Williams is more like 60%......they are taking it slow and steady--no need to rush either of these guys back.......
NOBSY (Aug 23, 2006 10:27:29 AM)
Bigger need in this recruiting class...corner or offensive tackle?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:28:06 AM)
in THIS recruiting class I would say the biggest need is defensive tackles.....
nastybuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:28:21 AM)
Is Robert Rose the next great DE to come through teh buckeye state?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:29:14 AM)
he could be the next great DT....he is just massive....enjoy his three seasons with us--and then wish him a long prosperous career in the NFL......
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 10:29:20 AM)
Do you expect a kicker to emerge and give us Nugent/Huston confidence in that phase of the game?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:30:59 AM)
I think both kickers have HUGE legs, and are eager for the challenge....just be patient...Nugent was horrible his freshman year(really really bad) and then ended up as MR Automatic.......it may take time, but both guys are talented.....
Royal Flush47 (Aug 23, 2006 10:31:13 AM)
If the '08 OL class goes as planned, don't you think OSU should be able to attract a national level OOS QB & RB to go along with the OLineman?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:33:10 AM)
I think we are blessed with a deep roster of QB's right now....and Chris Wells(and Clay or Hughes) will give us some nice depth at RB(and dont move Saine to WR just yet)......we will always be in play for top prospects OOS....its just that are hit rate in state is reallly high and OOS is really low(as recruting is a LOCAL game)......dont worry, be happy
CaliforniaBuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:33:36 AM)
Love the excitement about our O. Still cautious about how good they can be, given we played some lower level Ds in the back half of the year. Still think Tressel won't use the full potential via the air, but will grind out victories on the ground. Am I being too pessimistic?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:35:06 AM)
I think JT will open the offense up if he has confidence in his QB to not make mistakes...and he obviously trust Smith...should be fun to watch......I know they have put in some wrinkles that will keep opposing defenses guessing....
smu0104 (Aug 23, 2006 10:35:19 AM)
Who on the roster of the young guys (true frosh, RS-frosh, and sophomores) do you look at and say "this guys could be a top 10 pick in a few years?"
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:36:26 AM)
Chris Wells, Robert Rose and Ross Homan could all be HIGH draft choices....enjoy watching them while you can!
chuangtsu (Aug 23, 2006 10:36:55 AM)

nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:37:39 AM)

who DOESNT redshirt from this class?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:38:48 AM)
Wells, Homan, Rose , Coleman and Ballard all do not redshirt....
buck05 (Aug 23, 2006 10:39:04 AM)
Just so I have it straight, in 07' Soloman Thomas = buckeye, Eugene Clifford = Buckeye, Torrence = Buckeye, plus the seven current commits is ten, probably take 7 or 8 other SA's? In 08' Adams = Buckeye, Brewster = Buckeye. Am I missing anyone and do you see anyone committing anytime soon? Are there any pending offers out there for any SA'S due to grade restraints that would committ if grades were acceptable? Thanks Neveda.
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:41:48 AM)
Elliott would commit on the spot but grades are an issue. Jeremiah is in the same boat...
buckeyebob (Aug 23, 2006 10:42:05 AM)
Interesting to see all of the polls with OSU on top, but those people don't have any money invested in those picks. The people in Vegas always have a handle on the better teams. Do you know what teams have the best "odds" to be in the championship hunt?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:42:58 AM)
the "smart" money is on West Virginia...the wise guys like the way their schedule is setting up.....
boobuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:43:14 AM)
Is Schaefer starting on the o-line what we should expect opening the season or is it just a J.T. senior thing
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:44:24 AM)
Schafer has really stepped it up(like so many seniors do under JT0...looks like a different young man than last year....he is playing with passion and intensity......he gives us even more depth on a loaded offensive line....
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 10:44:48 AM)
If Ryan Williams gets healthy, where do you see him fitting in the puzzle?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:45:46 AM)
Williams is defensive end all the way. Explosive first step player, so he needs to rehad slowly and come all the way back.

SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:47:05 AM)

rbuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:47:43 AM)
I heard from someone "in the know" that Zebrie Sanders is not a big fan of OSU. Do you think he will go to tOSU?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:49:09 AM)
Sanders camped at OSU and has not expressed any anti-OSU sentiment to staff....exactly the opposite it fact........remember this time last year reports were that Brandon Saine slept in Maize and Blue pajamas......so be careful what you believe....
MN Buckeye II (Aug 23, 2006 10:49:27 AM)
Nevada...couple of questions...D'Andrea...what's up...sounds not good for the young man...more coach/senior leader for him this year? Any playing time besides one or two plays at the end of the Michigan game? Also, since you mentioned Washington in the starting corner spot...what's up with Antonio Smith...he still in the mix?
rbuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:49:30 AM)
Does D'Andrea play ever again at OSU? Is it possible for him to petition for a 6th year?
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:49:47 AM)
Oh my, that saga dragging on another 12 months?
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:50:32 AM)
I think Mike is probably not going to see significant playing time...the mind is willing, but the body keeps breaking down......Smith is still firmly in the mix....there is no substitute for experience, and he has tons of it......
Toledobuck24 (Aug 23, 2006 10:50:50 AM)
What is the staffs thinking in regards to Henton? Hows he doing in Fall camp and does he look like he has what it takes to compete, and win, the Job next year?
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:51:02 AM)
Daniels said he's been dinged (leg and shoulder).
nevadabuck (Aug 23, 2006 10:51:57 AM)
Henton will be squarely in the mix come next season. He has been slowed by a couple of nagging injuries, but he is a very very talented young man.....how he was not higher ranked is criminal.......
edbuck51 (Aug 23, 2006 10:52:11 AM)

Freeman is a "given"...he is certainly not under the radar...every discussion of the LB's begins and ends with him......
SteveHelwagen (Aug 23, 2006 10:54:25 AM)
I have a nice story coming on Freeman. I think he's doing just fine, from what I've seen. Last question (kind of a catch-all) ...
