SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 10:47:42 AM)
Bob, welcome to the Bucknuts Chat Room!

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:48:27 AM)
Thanks for having me and yes I am a genius for picking Ohio State to win the national title back in June

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 10:48:48 AM)
Ha ha, lets get started. If you have a recruiting question for Bob, send it now.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:49:06 AM)
I always have to throw that out there for the ribbng I took for that call on the Roundtable

coldpizzasucks (Oct 9, 2006 10:49:24 AM)
Hey Bob, thanks for chatting! Do you think the Buckeyes go after/get the Hale kid from PA?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:50:26 AM)
I think they likely will, I just watched him again on Friday night he is a outside guy maybe even a future defensive end, he has a ways to go to be a true MLB

Big Two (Oct 9, 2006 10:50:31 AM)
Hi Bob. Thanks for stopping by! OSU seems to be in on more of the top recruits than usual this year. How do you think the class is shaping up?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:51:37 AM)
I really like what the Buckeyes have done, especially at safety. Obviously Torrence may end up at another position, but Clifford and Oliver are as good a duo as I have seen in the last few years

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 10:51:58 AM)
Couple on the big DT Joseph Barksdale from Michigan ...

mckbuckeye (Oct 9, 2006 10:52:01 AM)
Bob-Does the play of Gholsten this week help sway Barksdale - soon?

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 10:52:10 AM)
Do we get Brent and Barksdale?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:52:52 AM)
Barksdale is so hard to read, he is on and off the map more thanme following a set of mapquest directions and that is bad

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:53:10 AM)
Brent may surprise some folks I think OSU will be a player, but watch out for the Illini

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 10:53:28 AM)
Several on Greg Little, can you sort that out?

edbuck51 (Oct 9, 2006 10:53:31 AM)
Hey Bob, do you know much about Greg Little?

Buckguy108 (Oct 9, 2006 10:53:33 AM)
Bob, I believe (Greg?) Little is announcing his decision today. Any idea where ends up?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:54:27 AM)
I think Greg ends up at UNC because they are the only ones who are telling him they are recruiting him strictly as a WR. I have seen enough of Little to know he wont play WR

Buckguy108 (Oct 9, 2006 10:54:35 AM)
Rob Gronkowski - is he Maryland all the way or do the Bucks have a shot?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:54:48 AM)
Its a matter of those who told him the truth will likely lose out

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:55:33 AM)
I just talked to Rob Friday night, I used to think he was MD's to lose but I'm not so sure now. He likes them, Clemson, OSU and Syracuse also

edbuck51 (Oct 9, 2006 10:55:46 AM)
Are there any PA kids the Bucks are in on strong this year?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:56:33 AM)
Just Lindsey as of right now in the 07 class besides Blankenship

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:57:02 AM)
I forgot Derrick Morgan as well

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 10:56:53 AM)
I'd be curious about your thoughts if we get any OL and DT's this year?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 10:58:39 AM)
I think Barksdale is a good possibility, they will be players for Brent as well. Maybe O'Dowd if he leaves the west coast. I'm sure there is someone in the mix that we don't even know about right now. My guess is they will sign a monster OL class in 08

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 10:58:57 AM)
That brings up this question ...

edbuck51 (Oct 9, 2006 10:59:00 AM)
What kind of chance do you think OSU has of landing Adams, Brewster and Long for '08? Do you think they have a shot a Shugart?

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 10:59:09 AM)
Are we going to get all those OL's in the 08 class, the 4 people talk of? Thanks.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:00:46 AM)
Adams I think they get. Brewster is very interested. Nate Oliver and others are working him very hard. Kyle is very interested in the Buckeyes. Shugarts is not out of the realm of possibility and I know Brewster, JB and Kyle all communicate so it could be interesting

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:00:58 AM)
Any surprise 5 stars out of state that OSU gets this year?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:01:28 AM)
It would not surprise me at all ohs....But there's a long way to go before February of 2008

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:01:51 AM)
No surprises as of yet

hondo (Oct 9, 2006 11:01:36 AM)
How good is Poz's brother and who is the odds on favorite to land him?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:02:40 AM)
Poz's little brother is a very solid player, if I were to guess early Notre Dame or Pitt, but its way too early to give a rock solid guess

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:02:48 AM)
Wow, not PSU???

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:03:18 AM)
I dont think he wants to follow in his brothers shadow

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:03:26 AM)

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:03:53 AM)
(This naturally will bring out the comments from OSU fans who thought Hawk got boned on the Butkus, "What shadow?" Ha ha.)

edbuck51 (Oct 9, 2006 11:04:00 AM)
Do you thin PSU will finish in the top 25 this year? What are your thoughts on the game with Michigan?

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:04:24 AM)
Does PSU have a fighting chance this week vs. UM? It is at home and at night.

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:21 AM)
And Manningham is out

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:32 AM)
No I dont, I think they will. I think UM wins by three scores

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:37 AM)

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:40 AM)
is manningham out?

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:51 AM)
I didn't know that, but that's what they're saying. Hmmm.

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:55 AM)
Possibly for the year

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:05:59 AM)
Uh oh.

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:06:05 AM)

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:06:25 AM)
Won't play this week or next Possibly the year. Huge blow

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:06:40 AM)
That's unbelievable. I didn't even know he was hurt. OK, here we go ...

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:06:52 AM)
ouch..Ok two scores

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:06:56 AM)
Per Boulder. Who was spot on

Hicks74 (Oct 9, 2006 11:07:05 AM)
Hi Bob, did Clements commit to the Michigan ? What was the reason we were not in on him ? Grades ?

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:07:10 AM)
Can you compare Toney Clemons to the other top receivers in the nation. Like a Thompson, and is he going to scUM?

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:07:41 AM)
Also LLLoyd's presser said he was definitely out this week.

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:07:47 AM)
There you go.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:08:28 AM)
Clemons did not commit, he is taking visits and will visit Tennessee on Nov 4th. I have no idea why OSU did not recruit him other than a lot of schools could not get his film. I think Clemons is better than Deonte Thompson, he is more of a complete WR

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:09:40 AM)
Mich is his leader right now though

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:08:42 AM)
Here you go Bob ...

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:08:44 AM)
AA game. No Clifford. Does Scout have any plans of trying to be more "involved" in the selection process, or do you see Scout continuing to put their name on a game that is really losing it's luster on a yearly basis.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:10:40 AM)
Love the name and I cant say that I dont agree with you, but to be totally PC with my answer it is an on-going process, this is only our third year of being involved. There are several things that have happened with that roster that I don't agree with but hey who am I to have any say I'm just a guy who actually sees these kids play

GaryHousteau (Oct 9, 2006 11:10:47 AM)
Hi Bob, as you know I respect your work very much but I wanted to throw a couple of things out at you. Has Mabin announced yet today? And two I have to say that I'm disappointed that Ohio will have only Martin representing our state in the Army All-American Bowl or did I miss anyone else. I believe that the selection committe are only setting themselves up to be embarrassed when certain players will become stars at Ohio State, like Clifford and Saine, and they won't be AA Bowl alums. BTW, I've told you this before but I think Greg Powers does an awesome job for you guys. I enjoyed meeting him at the Kirk Herbstreit Challenge in Massillon. My questions are almost as long as most of my answers on these chats! Smile!

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:11:34 AM)
Good answer Bob (ha ha).

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:12:22 AM)
I agree 100% Gary...Greg will be a great asset to Scout and he is going to be more involved on a national scale..I trained him to Northwestern

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:12:58 AM)
Wow, I thought Mabin would join his cousin Dorin Dickerson at Pitt. NW in an upset. They are cleaning up with some good players like Browne and Arnold and Sutton before and now Mabin!!!

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:13:16 AM)
I am absolutely floored by that one.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:14:03 AM)
He said he felt more comfortable with the campus at Northwestern

GaryHousteau (Oct 9, 2006 11:14:17 AM)
Big Ten!

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:13:41 AM)
edbuck asks your assessment of Evan Blankenship.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:14:46 AM)
Evan is a project, but he has a lot of potential. To be honest he will either be boom or bust in my opinion. He is a road grader

coldpizzasucks (Oct 9, 2006 11:14:52 AM)
Will Mabin play RB at NW? or db?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:01 AM)
Thats what I think it all came down to Gary

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:06 AM)
Got to be DB, right Bob?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:18 AM)
Probably depends on depth, wherever he is needed the most

Hicks74 (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:28 AM)
Bob , your feelings on Anthony Davis. I would like one more lineman. Your feelings on Blankeship if he ends up our only OOS/OL ?

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:36 AM)
What about Davis. Jenkins is his teammate, and talks with him regularly. Seems Miami is out with their situation per him. Any thoughts.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:48 AM)
Corners are at a premium this year and he is a pretty good one

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:51 AM)
any chance osu gets Davis the OL from NJ?

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:15:58 AM)
Several there on Anthony Davis.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:16:32 AM)
Ant is a stud, I think OSU is very strong with him right now, but don't sleep on Rutgers...The more they win the more attractive they become

Heater (Oct 9, 2006 11:16:56 AM)
Recruiting, schmee-schmooting. :-) That 3rd and 25 run by Troy Smith was amazing to watch (and rewatch...thanks, TiVo!!). If the Heisman voting were today, give me your top 5 and how close is the vote?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:19:03 AM)
Ok, now I will lose would pick Garret Wolfe right now, then Troy Smith, Steve Slaton, Adrian Peterson and Brady Quinn...But my guess is Troy is the leader and will win especially if OSU wins the NC

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:19:12 AM)
Here's a good one ...

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:19:14 AM)
Bob You a Philly guy or a STEALER(mispelled for Super Bowl Purposes) Got to love the game last night if your an Eagle. I loved watching O.D. being shut down and D.M. playing well.

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:19:57 AM)
Now I'm a Browns fan, but I'm confused how people think the Steelers stole that game when they won like 23-7 or something. They got a couple calls, I know, but ...

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:21:31 AM)
Stillers and yes they got their asses handed to them again last night, but the Chargers are my second favorite so it could be worse

Hicks74 (Oct 9, 2006 11:21:55 AM)
With the urgent need at DT why has OSU not been mentioned for the DT from Washington DC (#1 ranked ?)

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:22:07 AM)
Marvin Austin from Coolidge, I believe.

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:22:54 AM)
yea, I think OSU should be mentioned with more DT"s OOS, why so few?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:23:10 AM)
Some schools are not for everybody, but he has never mentioned them. Maybe they just never really recruited him that hard

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:24:13 AM)
The crop at DT is fairly thin this year

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:23:18 AM)
Are you concerned about Nate Oliver's speed? or his he the real deal?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:24:37 AM)
He's the real deal

Hicks74 (Oct 9, 2006 11:24:53 AM)
After last year's monster class at PSU, how do you see their overall recruiting now that they are having somewhat of a down year ?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:25:52 AM)
I think its a little down this year considering the year they had last year, but they may finish strong

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:26:04 AM)
Is it safe to say he slipped on his 40 time when he ran a 4.8 at the combine. That was his explanation, and I tend to believe him seeing tape on him. Regarding Oliver some on the board here where in panic when they saw that time.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:26:44 AM)
well he looked slower last year when I saw him, but he was hella fast this year

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:27:22 AM)
Would scout ever entertain the idea of putting on their own AA game, maybe on Fox. I believe you said Fox bought out scout, and that is the reason some upgrades were slow developing. Just a thought.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:28:38 AM)
I would love to see that, but that takes a lot of money so we'll see

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:28:51 AM)
Do you like Herron or Saine better as a RB?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:29:43 AM)
Thats a tough call, both different style guys. Saine is a game changer speed wise. But I still like Boom

coldpizzasucks (Oct 9, 2006 11:29:53 AM)
How much would Manningham being out for the year effect TSUN's offense? Do they have anyone who can step up and be a deep threat like MM?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:30:18 AM)
Arrington isn't too shabby

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:30:36 AM)
It obviously hurts though

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:32:25 AM)
Gary or Bob, I know you have been giving regular updates on the Mooney kids Gary, what's the chance they all are offered, and what are the chances on any of them Being in S &G, I believe Zordich dad played at PSU. Any chance he sees tOSU is the real LB U

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:34:22 AM)
I have not seen MoOney yet, but I heard Beachum has struggled a bit

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:34:25 AM)
question on 08? how are the DT's in Ohio in 08 (we hear about OL)? and how is talent in 08 overall vs. 07 in Ohio?

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:36:16 AM)
Shawntel Rowell is probably the best. He is well over 300. He's at Glenville.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:36:32 AM)
its stiil way to early to make an accurate assessment right now on the overall talent. It looks pretty decent next year with a number of athletes

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:36:52 AM)
I'm watching film everyday trying to catch up

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:37:10 AM)
Justin Brown is an impressive kid at DE

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:37:28 AM)
Mooney has about 5 kids I like from their highlights

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:37:48 AM)
Darius Ashley is a kid I really like at RB

KeithByars (Oct 9, 2006 11:36:38 AM)
Bob, at Scout, do you go back to past years and see how you rated certain players or certain regions and thought about it and decided maybe you missed one or made a good call on some. I am curious how much time Scout spends to review past classes. I ask this because it seems Scout misses out on several Ohio guys every year that turn out alright.

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:37:32 AM)
Scout just ran an update on the 03 rankings and how they faired if you go to the main board

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:38:09 AM)
The 03 story in its entirety will be in the fall recruiting guide also

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:38:16 AM)

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:38:38 AM)
any thoughts on Martin after he and Mom went to ND? do we get him?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:39:12 AM)
I still say Buckeyes, once I make a call I live and die by no hedging here right or wrong

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:39:18 AM)
if you had to predict for 07 who OSU gets rest of the way, who would you list? thanks.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:41:34 AM)
Ben Martin, Ant Davis, Barksdale, Brent, solomon Thomas, James Scott

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:41:37 AM)
are my best guesses right now

coldpizzasucks (Oct 9, 2006 11:41:42 AM)
Who do you think tOSU will go after at QB next year? any clue? Heard anything about Dominique Britt?

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:41:50 AM)
Britt is the QB at Trotwood

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:42:36 AM)
Britt is awfully skinny, not sure he can hold up. He needs a good 2-3 years of weight training and 3-5 squares a day

KeithByars (Oct 9, 2006 11:42:41 AM)
Bob .. does Tressel do a better job then Cooper did in the household of a recruit ?? How does a recruits mom or dad view Tressel compared to Cooper or other coaches like Fulmer, Paterno and Weis.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:44:29 AM)
Cooper was before my time. I think Tress handles his own. Honestly I dont hear a lot about those three in my region in home visits. Obviously in a home or in a school its a big deal with paterno because he is a legend of college football

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:44:42 AM)
Weis has super bowl ring I'm sure that is impressive to any 16-18 year old and theirt parents

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:44:54 AM)
Thats what I have heard

KeithByars (Oct 9, 2006 11:46:55 AM)
Bob .. in your opinion, what position does Ohio State recruit the best ?? Sometimes certain schools have a reputation for being excellent at certain positions, ie Linebacker University. When you think of Ohio State, what positions do you think OSU has historically done very well in ??

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:47:52 AM)

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:48:00 AM)
Lb's aren't too shabby either

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:48:04 AM)

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:48:12 AM)
OK, just a couple more here ...

KeithByars (Oct 9, 2006 11:48:21 AM)
Do you think Dionte Allen changes his mind ??

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:49:05 AM)
Thats always a possibilty especially if FSU goes in the tank which is a distinct possibility

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:49:12 AM)
how good is that Clausen QB that ND is getting?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:49:59 AM)
Clausen is very good. There are a number of good QB's this year but mechanically he is the best by far

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:50:20 AM)
Clausen also plays on a team with a bunch of great players

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:50:28 AM)
Beano Cook said he might Break Ron Powlus' Hesiman record. HA

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:50:31 AM)
Ha ha.

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:51:56 AM)
Beano always knows how to rile the masses

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:50:07 AM)
Last one ...

ohs (Oct 9, 2006 11:50:15 AM)
no more OL's from Ohio for OSU this year?

BobLichtenfels (Oct 9, 2006 11:51:23 AM)
I honestly don't think the OL class is that good this year, Antonio Jeremiah could be an OL if DT doesnt work out but Im guessing his grades are not that good. Schepis was probably the best that I had seen

SteveHelwagen (Oct 9, 2006 11:52:03 AM)
Bob, thanks for stopping by. That hour flew by very quickly. Thanks again for all of your insights and for the job you and Greg and Allen and (most of the rest) of the Scout people do (ha ha)!

CliffordwasROBBED (Oct 9, 2006 11:52:14 AM)
Thx For putting up with us Bob, Gary, Steve thx as always.

coldpizzasucks (Oct 9, 2006 11:52:32 AM)
thanks Bob-O!
