Colorado 2007 Commit Updates

Colorado has 16 known verbal commitments from players in the 2007 class. Inside, BSN takes a look at how all 16, including Friendswood linebacker Robert Hall (pictured), or their teams are faring in their respective football seasons.

Ethan Adkins, OL Douglas County
Defending state champion Douglas County is 7-0. Prior to last week's 17-10 win over Highlands Ranch, DCHS had won its two previous games 101-0. Highlands Ranch is the only team this year to score at least 10 points against the Huskies. DCHS plays at Mt. Vista Saturday.

Tyler Ahles, LB, San Bernardino (Cajon), Calif.
Ahles has been a key player in Cajon's defense this season. His coach, Kim Battin, said Ahles is the best prospect to come out of Cajon since 1988, when Charles Johnson played at the San Bernardino school (yes, the Charles Johnson who went on to become one of the best wide receivers in Colorado Buffaloes history). Cajon is 4-2 and plays Arroyo Valley Friday.

Matthew Ballenger, QB, Nampa (Skyview), Idaho
Ballenger has been racking up the stats and helping his team rack up the victories this fall. Through seven games, Ballenger has thrown for 1,195 yards (71-of-121 attempts) and nine touchdowns despite quarterbacking a run-oriented attack. Ballenger has rushed for 370 yards on 59 attempts (6.2 ypc), and seven touchdowns. Ballenger leads the Skyview's conference in passing, and his Skyview team leads the conference in offensive production (463.5 ypg) and points per game (42.1). Skyview is 6-1 overall, and 5-0 in conference. They meet the other undefeated conference foe, Bishop Kelly (Cody Hawkins' old team), Friday.

Blake Behrens, OL, Phoenix (Brophy Prep), Ariz.
Behrens blocks in the 5A Desert Valley Region's top offense, as Brophy has scored 197 points so far this season. Brophy Prep is 5-2 overall and 2-0 in regional play. They play co-leader and rival St. Mary's Friday. Brophy Prep is the defending state champs.

Shawn Daniels, OL, Denver (Mullen)
Daniels helps power the Mullen offense that's averaging over 43 points a game. Mullen is 7-0, ranked No. 1 in Colorado (5A), and hosts Boulder Friday.

Patrick Gates, RB, Saddleback College
In last week's win over Mt. SAC, Gates was named Saddleback's offensive player of the week. Through six games, Gates leads Saddleback with 559 yards on 111 carries, a 5.0 ypc average. He's scored nine rushing touchdowns and is averaging 93 yards per game. He's also caught 18 passes (tied for the team lead), and scored twice on receptions.

Robert Hall, LB, Friendswood, Texas
Hall was named Friendswood's defensive player of the week in the team's loss to Rosenberg Sept. 8. Friendswood, a Houston suburb, sent five players to Division I-A programs from its 2005 team. Friendswood is 5-2 and third place in its district. They play Brazosport Friday.

Mike Iltis, OL/DL, Sarasota (Riverview), Fla.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Iltis is playing both ways for Riverview this season. Riverview is currently 4-3 overall, and 1-1 in the 6A District 6 league. Riverview plays at Middleton Friday.

Devan Johnson, ATH, Pittsburgh (Woodland Hills), Penn.
Johnson has played tight end, linebacker , receiver, punt returner and fullback at Pittsburgh's Woodland Hills. A "soft verbal," he's being recruited as a fullback by CU. WHHS is 6-1 and currently ranked No. 8 in Pennsylvania by and plays Kiski Friday.

Nick Nelson, QB, Saddleback College
Nelson, Gates' teammate at Saddleback, is having a strong year, as well. Saddleback's starting QB has completed 81-of-130 passes for 1,239 yards. What's most impressive is Nelson has thrown 10 touchdowns, but just one interception. He's also rushed for 118 yards. Saddleback is 6-0 and plays at Orange Coast College Saturday.

Conrad Obi, DE, Loganville (Grayson), Ga.
Obi suffered a season-ending injury to his finger in his team's fourth game this fall. In his four games, Obi had 12 tackles, 2 TFL and a quarterback hurry. Grayson is 3-3 and plays at Central Gwinnett Friday.

Anthony Perkins, QB, Northglenn

Lamont Smith, RB, Pittsburgh (Central Catholic), Penn.
The speedy Smith returned to the lineup recently after missing three games with an ankle injury. He was also recently named one of Pittsburgh's top 10 running backs by the Pitt Tribune. He'll likely play corner and returner in college. Central Catholic is 6-1, alone atop the Quad South league, and plays at Hempfield Friday.

Adam Tello, OL, Norco, Calif.
Tello starts alongside Gerhart on the Norco offensive line.

Anthony Wright, RB/DB, Compton, Calif.
Wright, who plays running back and safety for Compton, came up with a big defensive play three weeks ago — a game-saving interception in the final moments against Wilson High. Compton is 5-1 — its only loss coming against Dominguez — and plays Millikan Saturday.
