Hello. Fire away whenever you're ready!
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 5:46:56 PM)
hello dave, it baffles me that people consider Leon hall the best cb in the country even tho scUM has like the 73rd ranked pass D.. I mean i understand they r ahead most of the time and teams pass on them, but still 73??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:47:36 PM)
Well, he's a very good corner, but Malcolm Jenkins is also getting some run as the nation's best corner. But those accolades usually go to seniors and Hall did have a very good junior season. He's good, but not the best in the country IMO.
45gobucks (Oct 31, 2006 5:47:46 PM)
Hey Dave....do you really believe that MM is so important to SCum? I just can't see a receiver being that important to the offense....doesn't say much for Henne, does it?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:48:35 PM)
He is important, but I still think OSU is 10-11 points better than Michigan. He is Henne's go-to guy much like Edwards a couple years ago and he will be back in time for OSU.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 5:48:43 PM)
who is next commit?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:48:59 PM)
Sounds like Barksdale is pretty close.
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 5:49:11 PM)
All of Michigan's points came off of turnovers in our own territory last year in the Big House and I feel our defense is faster and more athletic this year mainly because of our DB's. Do we dominate with our team speed?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:49:49 PM)
Well, dominate might be a strong word, but OSU will have a speed advantage over a fast Michigan team. They are both fast teams, but OSU could be the fastest team in the country this year top to bottom....
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:50:13 PM)
And you're right, the only reason Michigan was even in that game was because of OSU turnovers last year. The Mo Wells fumble got them back in the game.
hondo (Oct 31, 2006 5:50:17 PM)
Have you heard the specifics of Boones injury?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:51:14 PM)
I heard it was a shoulder injury, but I'm not sure about the severity. If I was guessing, I would say he will sit out the next two weeks and start against Michigan. Doesn't sound too serious, but Tressel was very tight-lipped about it today.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 5:51:18 PM)
what is key to winning nov 18?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:52:15 PM)
Of course it's a cliche, but winning the turnover battle. Or, in this case, not losing the turnover battle. OSU is the better team and it is playing at home. All things being equal, the Buckeyes will win and will head to the desert for the fourth time in the last five years. The only way Michigan has a chance is winning the turnover battle like last year.
buckmark (Oct 31, 2006 5:52:28 PM)
Hey Dave... thanks for hanging out. What is our read on the latest injury reports. They all seem to say
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:53:16 PM)
Gonzo will be back this week. Sounds like Pitcock might be held out an extra week (both concussions)... Ray Small will be out this week, but will be fine (another concussion)
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 5:53:27 PM)
Im sure you saw nevada's declaration of barksdale===== buckeye... have u heard anything about this?? i wont b sure till he coems public, have u heard anything about a public announcement??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:54:17 PM)
I have not heard anything about a public announcement. I've thought all along that Barksdale would be a Buckeye and Nev's information confirms it. Sounds like he didn't want to miss the boat (not that OSU wouldn't have held a 'ship for him)
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 5:54:26 PM)
How serious is Broderick Green in the Buckeyes? He sounds like a good one and says he will visit.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:54:59 PM)
It's hard to say. We'll know a lot more after his visit. Good sign he's coming for an official.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 5:55:19 PM)
Quick question(s) and then I am off to bed. Have you heard anythin about the runningback from Wisconsin, John Clay. It would be nice to get him. Also, what are the cnaces of getting Dionte Allen to decommit to Florida State and become a Buckeye? who is the next buckeye commit?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:55:38 PM)
(Above question from Buckeyebeef)
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:56:44 PM)
John Clay has strong interest in OSU, but he is a heavy Wisconsin lean. I think that's where he will end up. Both programs have big freshman running backs (Wells, PJ Hill) so that should be a wash, but I think Clay will stay home. Unless he's somehow convinced Pittman is definitely leaving early...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:57:49 PM)
Regarding Dionte Allen, I think OSU is very much a player now. The relationships Tressel and Haynes have built with St. Mary's Prep is a factor here. Gant and Taurian Washington will be in his hear to join them in Columbus. Michigan is also a big player for him, but I think OSU has a very good shot.
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 5:57:59 PM)
Obviously we have to take care of illinois, NW, and scUM.. and i am always the one who says lets think about this game before we think title... but what top team other then scUM do u feel would give us the most problems?? I tend to think it is those damn gators..
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:58:38 PM)
I agree, I think Florida is the next best team out there. I really wanted a shot at USC to expose them, but Oregon State ruined the fun.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 5:58:44 PM)
what's up with boone?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 5:59:16 PM)
Shoulder injury is what I've heard. Doesn't sound too serious, but the coaching staff isn't saying anything about it.
45gobucks (Oct 31, 2006 5:59:31 PM)
Do you think Pitcock and AG play this week?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:00:01 PM)
Yes, I think they will both play. Sounds like Gonzo will definitely be in there. I could see them holding Pitcock out for one more week. Why not?
BuckeyeBill (Oct 31, 2006 6:00:08 PM)
How do you think the running game will do against Michigan's D?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:00:58 PM)
It will be tough sleding, no doubt, but I think OSU will do enough in the running game to win. They just need to run to set up the pass. Bring those safeties up a little bit and freeze the linebackers with play action. Let Troy do damage deep and with intermediate routes.
7-11 (Oct 31, 2006 6:01:07 PM)
If OSU an MI played today what would the score be
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:01:13 PM)

Who leaves early for the NFL?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:01:53 PM)
Definitely Ginn, maybe Pittman and that's it. Barton will stay IMO. Gonzo could leave, but won't even consider it. Ginn 100 percent gone, I
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:02:15 PM)
I'd say Pittman 70 percent gone, even though he's walking the company line and saying he will come back.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:02:24 PM)
Gholston will definitely stay one more year IMO
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 6:02:31 PM)
what's the new play or plays we see Nov 18 like tyree that we haven't seen much of yet?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:03:16 PM)
It's hard to say, that's why they are secret plays saved just for the Maize and Blue. It's just fun knowing that Tressel has some tricks up his sleeve.
buckmark (Oct 31, 2006 6:03:22 PM)
Do you give Illinois or Northwestern any chance at all? (1998 MSU)
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:03:57 PM)
Absolutely not. These are awful football teams playing against the best OSU team I have ever seen. I know Illinois has played better recently, but this will be another bloodbath.
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 6:04:07 PM)
How would you compare the Texas defense we faced in Austin to the Michigan defense we will see on November 18th? I see similar defenses with Michigan a little more stout up front and Texas a little more athletic in the back 4. Thoughts?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:05:25 PM)
Good assessment. Michigan's defensive line is excellent. And I also like UM's linebackers better than Texas'. I wasn't really impressed with Texas' DBs, but Michigan's DBs other than Hall have been poor this year as well.
7-11 (Oct 31, 2006 6:05:33 PM)
wondered if you read the Collegefootballnews on OSU. Your thougths
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:05:44 PM)
I read CFN, but I missed that piece. Tell me more.
buckmark (Oct 31, 2006 6:05:54 PM)
What do you see as the #1 difference between Cooper's inability to achieve in November and Tress's ability to excel?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:07:03 PM)
We are seeing a living legend with Jim Tressel. He just gets it and (I can't believe I'm saying this) will go down as a better coach than Woody Hayes when it's all said and done. He is Ohio State football. And he's just a damn good coach as he also proved a YSU turning a mediocre program at best into a four-time national champion...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:07:49 PM)
Cooper was just an average coach who didn't really fit here. He was a good enough recruiter and did some good things here, but he just didn't understand the Michigan game and often coached very tight in it. Tressel has a quiet confidence that Coop never had.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 6:08:06 PM)
thanks for hanging with us Dave, what's your prediction of who else rounds out the 07 class?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:09:44 PM)
The big ones are Martin, Barksdale, Josh Brent, Devon Still and Anthony Davis. I think they have a shot with O'Dowd, but I don't think he will come to OSU. I think Hines and Jeremiah will be here if they get the grades. And maybe Dionte Allen. And there will always be a few surprise recruits off everyone's radar like Chekwa last year.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 6:09:56 PM)
who do we meet in the desert for the NC?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:10:38 PM)
I think it will be the winner of the West Virginia-Louisville game on Thursday. But it will be close. One-loss Florida will have a good claim, maybe Texas, but I think an undefeated team would get the nod.
_ichiganstillSUCKS (Oct 31, 2006 6:10:51 PM)
Brent? I think he is the most ready to come in and contribute of the DT's we are in on. Any good news on him. If Benn and Wilson choose the Ilini, some think we could lose this battle.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:11:16 PM)
We had Josh on the radio show and he sounds like very much a Buckeye lean. He is a very smart kid and is going to take him time, but it looks good.
tubesteak (Oct 31, 2006 6:11:32 PM)
Anything that can be done to correct Beanie's fumbling issues in the next few weeks or is this a technique issue that can only really be fixed in the off-season?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:12:33 PM)
I think it's just something he's going through as a freshman. And I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal. He's only lost three fumbles all year. Clarett lost three fumbles in a game as a freshman, so it happens. Everyone knows about Eddie's woes against Illinois as a freshman. Beanie will grow out of it.
buckmark (Oct 31, 2006 6:12:50 PM)
Besides the QB spot, what area of this team do you see as its greatest strength? Greatest weakness? How do those matchup with Illinois, NW, and scUM?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:13:32 PM)
I think the WR corps or the D-line (when healthy) has to be the greatest strengths other than QB. This team is loaded and you could go in so many directions, but those stand out to me...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:14:07 PM)
Weaknesses? I still would like to see better tackling and more pressure on the QB. (Man that's greedy when you're talking about the nation's No. 1 scoring D and No. 9 total D.)
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 6:14:15 PM)
There are people on the free board who claim to know that deonte thompson will not leave the south... have u heard this??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:14:57 PM)
I've tried to get him for an interview, but haven't been able to reach him yet. I haven't heard those sentiments, but it's easy to believe. A lot of kids want to stay close to home.
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 6:15:01 PM)
What are the odds we go to field turf after this season? I think it makes sense and has worked well in Ann Arbor and Madison.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:15:26 PM)
I think it's definitely going to happen. Coach Tressel seems to want it, even though he hasn't come out directly and said it.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:15:45 PM)
And they already use FieldTurf in the indoor facility at the WHAC, so they are familiar with it.
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 6:15:52 PM)
who is the starting qb in 07???
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:16:51 PM)
I think Boeckman will get the first crack at the job, but I think eventually Henton and Scholenhoft will compete for the job. I look for Boeckman to start the season, and for Tressel to change to either henton or Schoenhoft after a few games.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:16:57 PM)
Dave, what are you hearing about the play of D. Worthington? How is the Ryan Williams kid doing? Injury free?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:17:35 PM)
Worthington is getting some decent backup time at defensive tackle and Tressel thinks he will "grow into a big strong defensive tackle." They seem to like him...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:17:47 PM)
Williams must be coming along slow from the injury because he's not getting much time.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:18:09 PM)
You have been around recruiting for quite some time now, does a big exciting/dominant win over Michigan help some of the recruits that come for the game?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:18:57 PM)
I think it would help a little bit, but wouldn't be a huge factor. If there was a kid on the fence it could push him one direction though (question from chuangtsu)
klever10 (Oct 31, 2006 6:19:04 PM)
speaking of new plays, what do you see Mo Wells role in the game? I personally see him finally used out in space on screens and swings...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:19:53 PM)
I don't think he will play much against Michigan. As we saw last week, looks like Tressel has decided to go with the 1-2 punch of Pittman and Beanie Wells. Mo Wells will play a lot these next two weeks, but probably not much at all vs. UM.
scarletngray (Oct 31, 2006 6:20:04 PM)
any insight into the health of UM it seems like there is a few rumors out there
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:20:43 PM)
It's so hard to tell. I've taken the position to believe nothing out of Ann Arbor. Too many rumors, very few facts.
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 6:20:53 PM)
how did northwestern stay with michigan while earlier a 1-aa team beat them.. Im assuming scUM was flat and rain had soemthing to do with it
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:21:27 PM)
Yes, and Northwestern came out fired up after their embarrasing loss to MSU the week before. But Michigan's offense had to be concerned after another lackluster performance.

Has anyone run the ball with any success against Michigan? I think we air it out and work in the run like we did with Texas.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:22:37 PM)
No, they are first in the nation in rush defense, giving up 28 yards a game. They have obviously been very impressive. OSU will need to run to set up the pass.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:22:45 PM)
who do you think the honorary captains are going to be for 11/18 - I was thinking possibly Eddie and Archie?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:23:21 PM)
That works for me. Tressel does a real good job with that. Jerry Rudzinski says it's a first class operation all the way through.
scarletngray (Oct 31, 2006 6:23:36 PM)
what team (other than UM) do you think could give the bucks the most trouble in the nat champ game?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:23:59 PM)
Probably Florida. I am not sold on them, but there are no great teams out there other than OSU.
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 6:24:16 PM)
I heard Manningham had a patellar tendon injury which is more serious than what was first reported. Will he be ready November 18th?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:24:41 PM)
Yes, I think he will be ready. Sounds like he could play this week if they wanted him to, but they will probably hold him out the next two weeks and rest him for OSU.

It says on Scout that John Clay is "High" on OSU. Is there any chance that he doesn't stick with Wisconsin?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:25:07 PM)
There is a chance, but I think he will stay with Wisconsin. But there is no doubt he has sincere interest in OSU.

What is the word on Connor Smith? Is he playing well? Living up to expectations?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:26:03 PM)
He's doing well as a run blocker on the scout team, but is still learning his way as a pass blocker, which is expected since Colerain rarely throws the ball. I heard Jim Lachey talking about him. The one guy they really like is Bryant Browning.
j.c. (Oct 31, 2006 6:26:11 PM)
Does Alex Barrow move to DT next year?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:27:15 PM)
I think he will be a Darrion Scott-type throughout his career... play a little bit of DE, little bit of DT. Good versatile role player. Probably will never been as productive as D.Scott, but a similar type player.

DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:28:15 PM)
It is hard to believe, but if West Va is the only other undefeated team standing, I think they will be in there.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:28:23 PM)
I know that it is early, but is there any good reason why we don't lose more than 1 game next year? We don't play anybody! And, we have a good core of guys on O-line and on the defense coming back.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:29:26 PM)
Yes, there is a very good reason -- OSU is losing the best QB in school history and there will be a HUGE dropoff from Smith to Boeckman (or whoever). OSU will have a very good defense next year and could be a factor for the national title if everything falls right, but with a rookie starting QB, I am predicting three losses including the bowl game. Very early prediction of 10-3.
ilosufan1 (Oct 31, 2006 6:29:42 PM)
Looking forward to the game on Saturday, I think we contain Juice and take care of business. I was wondering how I would go about contacting OSU recruiting to make them aware of a OL prospect. Currently the kid is a JR and being recruited by Iowa. He has Ohio ties and would love to hear from OSU, any suggestions?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:30:13 PM)
I would send a letter or email to the football office. There is contact info on OSU's official athletics website under staff directory.

Hey DB - What do you make of all the recruits that are left and the small number of spaces available? In other words ... Who fills out the class?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:31:12 PM)
A few guys I think will fill out the class are Martin, Barksdale, Brent, Still... and the big one would be Anthony Davis and I think they have a very good chance at him with the connections at Piscataway (Malcolm Jenkins).

DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:34:54 PM)
My first reaction is Henton. The coaches don't want to say too much and build him up, but it sounds like they like him very much. Now can he break through and start as a redshirt freshman? I don't know. But I think we will see him play next year and possibly compete for the job. Others would be Gibson or Moeller... maybe Browning who the coaches really like.

Looking at how we are dominating this season makes me reflect back on 2002 and realize that the coaching staff did an outstanding job brining home a NC. This team is playing great on both sides of the ball and we have much more depth. It wasn't this good in '02.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:36:17 PM)
Seriously. Nothing alike at all. OSU had so many nail biters that year and they are just crushing everyone -- no one has come closer than 17 (and Texas and Iowa could have been much worse)
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:36:26 PM)
Does Clifford or Oliver become a LB?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:37:04 PM)
No, I think they will both stay in the defensive backfield. Clifford is going to be a star safety, possibly a big corner. There is a chance Oliver could grow into a LB, but I think he will stay at SS.
_ichiganstillSUCKS (Oct 31, 2006 6:37:14 PM)
Is too much being made about trying to use Mo Wells. I really don't see the problem with the offense that we need Mo Wells to be a big part of the scheme.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:38:15 PM)
I agree. Mo Wells is a No. 3 tailback and nothing more. Not a shot at him, but that's what he is. And when you have two studs like Pittman and Chris Wells, the No. 3 tailback is honestly not very important. Now if injuries pop up, everything changes and that's why it's good to have him. But right now, Mo Wells has a very small role on this team.

dont you think the big bad scum d-line is overrated vs. competition
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:39:00 PM)
I think their D-line is very good. The competition hasn't been very good and has beefed up their stats, no doubt, but they have a couple future NFL studs on that D-line.
_ichiganstillSUCKS (Oct 31, 2006 6:39:13 PM)
I think scUM is similar to our 02 team. Their Defense will keep them in any game against any team. But their offense is just average. Your thoughts?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:39:55 PM)
I could buy that. Michigan's offense doesn't have much explosion, just like OSU in '02. But Henne does throw a much better ball than Krenzel, so they are a little more dangerous.

surely JT will have the answer to scum..
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:40:41 PM)
That's what I think. I can't imagine him losing to them at the Horseshoe. Tressel has their number and will move to 5-1 (that's half way to 10-2... which would make up for the dreadful 2-10-1 years)
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:40:48 PM)

I think OSU would win that game by two touchdowns. But West Virginia is a good team. Not a national title winner though.
laziestbuck (Oct 31, 2006 6:41:15 PM)
You mean pass to set up the run?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:42:00 PM)
No, run to set up the pass. Pull Michigan's safeties up so Troy can burn them deep. If Michigan is able to stop the run with just its front seven, the safeties can play deep and prevent OSU's playmakers from getting behind them.
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:42:14 PM)
Please tell me that the next QB prospect for OSU will be a superstar.... any names?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:42:41 PM)
I like the kid from Trotwood-Madison in Dayton, Domonique Britt. 6-5 junior with a real good arm, good runner as well.
AustinBuckeye (Oct 31, 2006 6:42:48 PM)
Mark Jackson (OL) is the staff strongly looking at him? Does he merit an offer? What's your take
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:43:11 PM)
It's hard to say without really knowing his academic status. I think the staff always liked him, they just didn't think they could get him past admissions.
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:43:19 PM)
Please tell us something encouraging about B. Martin... when is he a buckeye?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:43:34 PM)
Sometime in late Nov. would be my guess.
scarletngray (Oct 31, 2006 6:43:46 PM)
if Troy wins the Heisman as a QB do you think this opens up the gates for great QB recruits to OSU. that is the only position i think we dont do excellent with
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:44:46 PM)
It could, but I think OSU will have to find most of its QBs in-state. If there is a great in-state QB, he will be OSU's. But I still think it will be difficult landing the nation's best OOS QBs. Henton was a different situation, OSU got on him early and then he exploded a senior.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:45:08 PM)
But you're right, OSU doesn't have much history with producing great QBs and Troy is a great first step in that direction.
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:45:27 PM)
Dave, you are usually right on, but I am going to hold you to the three loss prediction!
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:45:54 PM)
I hear ya! Please do (and I hope I'm wrong and we're looking at another title run... just don't see it with a rook QB)
TampaBuck (Oct 31, 2006 6:46:04 PM)
Our coaching staff is amazing in my opinion and I'd love to keep them together forever but that's not realistic. Does anyone leave after we win the NC this year?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:47:08 PM)
I think Hazell would be the only one. Fortunately, I think Heacock wants to retire here. He would be a hot commodity if he was looking to move on, but I think he will retire here and eventually turn the reigns over to Fickell who has HEAVY imput now anyway. Hazell will be a HC somewhere, but maybe not after this year. I think there's a realistic chance this staff stays in tact.
ilosufan1 (Oct 31, 2006 6:47:14 PM)
I am glad we have depth on the OL, a loss like Boone a couple of years ago would have been really tough.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:47:37 PM)
No doubt about it. Now they can just plug in guys like Skinner and Schafer and rest Boone and get him ready for Michigan.
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 6:47:50 PM)
i heard u guys for the friday of tghe michigan game r doing a call in radio show.. wanna elaborate on this??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:48:09 PM)
We're doing a live show and we're very excited about it. We'll have more information in the coming days so stayed tuned!
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 6:48:16 PM)
Who gets left out of the 2007 class that wants to come here. The WR from down south that comitted... any others??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:48:59 PM)
Well, Aaron Johnson from Louisiana is an obvious answer. He doesn't seem to take hints well.
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:49:06 PM)
Where does Hines end up? Can't see him playing with the depth that we have here this year and with next year's group coming out.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:49:33 PM)
I think he will be here. Something just tells me that he will eventually get an offer.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 6:49:36 PM)
Do you like Davis or O'Dowd better
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:50:08 PM)
It's hard to say. I would probably say Davis just for his upside, but I also like O'Dowd who can play all five positions, and is projected as a center. I would say Davis, but it's close.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 6:50:25 PM)
Do you think Browning is too big?? he looked enormous Saturday. He is a C or G?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:51:36 PM)
You know, Bryant isn't even fat if you can believe it. He is just a naturally HUGE kid. Never seen bigger legs on a kid. I don't think he's too big and he will just get stronger and will be a monster. Sounds like Bollman loves him, Makes you wonder why they waited so long to offer. Grades were not an issue.
tubesteak (Oct 31, 2006 6:51:44 PM)
What do you think is UM's gameplan for stopping our offensive firepower?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:52:20 PM)
Well, they will mix it up and try and pressure Smith more than anyone has. They will be the best defense OSU will face, but Smith will not be denied. He will be the best player on the field and will make enough plays to win.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:52:26 PM)
It may not have been this good and dominant in '02 but it sure was alot of fun!
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:52:29 PM)
No doubt about that!
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:52:37 PM)
How will the reps at RB work next year if Pitt comes back? Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that we didn't have enough RBs, and now we have too many!
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:53:18 PM)
Can you believe that? How fast things change in college football. I think it's a moot point because I think Pit will leave, but for argument's sake I think it would be similar as this year, just with Beanie getting about 5-6 more carries per game.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 6:53:26 PM)
who starts at LB next year? and OL?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:54:04 PM)
I like Terry, Laurinaitis and Freeman at linebacker, with Homan eventually taking over for Freeman (nothing against Freeman, he's playing well, but Homan will be a starter here)...
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:54:44 PM)
OL will be Boone, Rehring, Cordle/or/Whaley, Person and Skinner. Mitchum will play a lot and might start.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:55:09 PM)
Or maybe Skinner will be the surprise starter at center. He can play all five positions. That would allow them to get Mitchum in the starting lineup.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 6:55:17 PM)
Any idea of the two deep of our D line next season?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:56:31 PM)
Gholston and Rose will be the starters at DE, with Wilson playing a lot. The fourth DE could be Barrow, but he will also play DT. One starting DT will be Denlinger. After that, maybe Worthington or Barrow at DT (I think DT is going to be a big question mark next year). Larrimore will also be in the mix. And who knows about a freshman DE like Scooter Dublin. It's hard to say without being able to see practice.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:56:37 PM)
Do you think we could move the ball with Stan White Jr running behind Dionte Johnson?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:56:57 PM)
Against Illinois and NW? Yes. Against Michigan? No.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 6:57:17 PM)
What's your analysis of Mike Hart vs our defense? and can Jenkins shut down Mario M?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:58:01 PM)
Mike Hart hasn't had much success against OSU in past seasons and I expect more of the same this year. He will get his share of yards on the 18th, but his lack of explosion will prevent big plays and that plays into OSU's hands. They will come out and focus on stopping Hart and making Henne beat them.
chuangtsu (Oct 31, 2006 6:58:09 PM)
Dave, think about how much things have changed over the last couple of years.... Jim Tressell has the most dynamic offense in the country. It wasn't too long ago that Buckeye fans hated his conservative running approach.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:59:07 PM)
It really is amazing. Everyone was calling for JT's head as an offensive coordinator (not a head coach) as early as two years ago... saying he needed to hire someone from the outside. And now he has one of the most high-powered, productive, innovative offenses in the country. But it's a lot easier to do that when you have Troy Smith as your QB.
USFbuckeyeBG (Oct 31, 2006 6:59:15 PM)
this Dominique Brett guy... Is he gonan b a big time national recruit?? or r we just talking about him cause he is a local guy??
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 6:59:31 PM)
I think he will be a big-time national recruit. Maybe not top 5 in the nation, but in the 10-20 range.
Guest (Oct 31, 2006 6:59:50 PM)
Dave. thanks for the great chat and all the great work that is done at Bucknuts. Probably the best $100 a buckeye fan can spend. Keep up the good work.

Has there ever been a time in history when a team beat the #2 team in three different games? We beat Texas, will beat Michigan, and will beat whichever #2 is put in front of us in the NC. What a run that would be.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:00:52 PM)
I would be an incredible run and I never thought of it in those terms. Would just add a little extra icing to the cake. Not sure if it's ever happened previously.
ohs (Oct 31, 2006 7:00:55 PM)
does Troy get drafted in first round?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:02:07 PM)
Yes, absolutely. The projections of 2nd or 3rd round are ridiculous. Will his height of 6-foot even hurt him? Yes. But it will will knock him down from the top overall pick, to somewhere later in the first round. If Troy was 6-3, he would be the top overall pick. As it stands, I would say somewhere around 15-20.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 7:02:27 PM)
could Browning end up better than Smith? Especially with Smith starting from 0 on pass blocking? How is conner comming along?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:03:09 PM)
I don't see why not. I think they will both be starters here, but Browning has been the pleasant surprise since Smith was the much more highly-touted recruit. But I think the coaches like both of them.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 7:03:16 PM)
Soph taking over for a 4 year player... do you think Freeman is hurting us this season?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:03:51 PM)
No, like I said, he's playing good football right now. I just think Homan is a future star and will steal some minutes from him next year, possibly the starting job. No one would have thought Curtis Terry would outplay Freeman coming into this season.
illibuck (Oct 31, 2006 7:03:58 PM)
Hard to believe Dionte Allen is going to stick with his commitment. I think the childhood favorite thing is starting to wear off. Thoughts?
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:04:36 PM)
I agree. The Florida State luster has worn off a little bit. I think it's between OSU and UM most likely.
BuckeyeFanForLife00 (Oct 31, 2006 7:04:47 PM)
WIll JT go back to his old self after Smith graduates??? with all the talent on D and O it will be hard for him to.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:05:58 PM)
Well, in fairness, this is the first time Tressel has had a really good QB since being at OSU. Krenzel was a great leader and will always have a place in Buckeye lore, but the fact is that he didn't throw an accurate football and didn't really have a strong arm. I think Tressel will continue to be a good play caller when he has an explosive offense. He has proven he will play to the strengths of his players.
DaveBiddle (Oct 31, 2006 7:06:30 PM)
Everyone, thanks for the great chat tonight. Over and out!
