G-man ... thanks for the night chat ... I am of the belief that if OSU scores 21 points they win. No ifs ands or buts about it 21 = victory. What do you think
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:48:57 PM)
I'm with you Troy-but don't settle for 21! How about 28 or 31! Let's win this game in style!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:49:56 PM)
I want to truly say 31-7 but I'm going to make it 31-14 as my final. This is a team of destiny. Wire-to-wire. Think I'm going to go soft now!
Poz79 (Nov 16, 2006 4:51:07 PM)
Hi Gary, think any recruits pull the trigger this week?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:51:07 PM)
Hi Poz ... maybe internally they will but I doubt we might know about it. Obviously Wright, Barksdale and maybe Davis are solid candidates for that.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:52:05 PM)
But I spoke to Barksdale tonight and he told me that he won't be committing to anyone on an official visit. He's still trying to be a bit coy with his decision but I think we all know where he's going.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:53:05 PM)
He said his mom and dad are going with him and they're all "excited" for this weekend. They're flying down tomorrow morning. He thinks Vernon is going to be his host!
Guest (Nov 16, 2006 4:55:14 PM)
What's the biggest concern on "O" facing the M "D"
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:55:14 PM)
5buckeyes asked this question about the Os biggest concern against the D...I would say their front 7 particularly their front four. But I like our guys a lot and it's football. Ohio State is the team to beat, it's at Ohio Stadium, they have Hart and Henne who don't really do a lot for me! Keep an eye on Manningham and the rest is history. You know Breaston is going to pack it in before the game even starts. Bring it!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 4:56:01 PM)
The more that I study this game the more I feel like we will win this game. The weather seems to have settled down, which may be the biggest factor of all. I can't see UM come into our crazy loud environment and outscore our offense.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:56:01 PM)
No question! Turnovers, and a lot of them, are the only thing that gives Michigan a chance to steal this game.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:57:23 PM)
I talked to Nate Oliver tonight and he's coming down obviously. Justin Staples is coming with his parents. Nate is really excited! He's a little bummed about his game last week but he's over it for now. He said Danny Herron was a SOB in their game. In a good way!
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 4:59:31 PM)
I've stuck with 40-17 since the end of the UI game.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:59:31 PM)
I want to go higher than 31 points for Ohio State but it is Michigan. But beating them into submission would be really a neat thing! My original call was 31-7 but I thought I better give Michigan an fumble return for a touchdown or something and go with 31-14. Just preparing for the worst you know.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 4:59:44 PM)
Are we all confident???
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:00:36 PM)
How does UM cover our four WRs and contain T. Smith from running?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:00:36 PM)
Ohio State has too much...that's the secret! Way too much for Michigan at Ohio Stadium with all of you maniacs in the crowd! Way too much!
Poz79 (Nov 16, 2006 5:03:29 PM)
I'm guessing Ted Ginn Sr will be at the 'shoe for the final home game of Troy and Teddy, hard to believe that's true already! What's your gut tell you on Hines, he end up a Buckeye?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:03:30 PM)
I'm sure Ted Sr. will be there. I haven't spoken to him this week. We'll probably chat Saturday morning as we always do. Troy and Teddy's last game? That is unbelievable isn't it. Hines? I think he should end up a Buckeye. No question! Will he? He's got that ACT business to take care of first. I think he will in the end. He has too!
Kleintime16 (Nov 16, 2006 5:05:04 PM)
Any word on Jermale Hines?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:05:04 PM)
I called him tonight before my chat and got his voice mail. I left him a message so if he calls back before we're done I'll give you all an update?
BucklivGa (Nov 16, 2006 5:07:43 PM)
No love for our Buckeyes D.....At least not this week. I believe this may be the biggest oversight for many people
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:07:43 PM)
I love this defense. And even Homan is now becoming the player many of us thought he was going to be this year. Someone who knows reminded me that Homan was making a serious bid for a starting spot before he hurt the hammy. Now he's totally healthy and he just adds greater depth to Laurinaitis, Freeman and Terry at the LB spots. At the beginning of the year I said the defense would be the biggest surprise of just how good they would be and I even underestimated them.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:08:57 PM)
I just love how everyone talks about Branch and Woodley and Burgess and Crable, etc.! Are you kidding me? Sure they're a good group but look what Ohio State is putting on the field. Bring it!
its 8:15 and michigan still sucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:11:31 PM)
I see that the state of Florida is coming up for an official visit, why don't we have more recruits coming in? I thought this weekend would be a great recruiting tool.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:11:32 PM)
If somehow OSU could get Wright and Thompson into the fold out of this weekend isn't that plenty. I've heard from multiple sources that it looks very good for Wright. I believe that Van Dyke's visit was cancelled according to one source. Just netting Wright for this weekend would be a great thing.
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:14:50 PM)
As for confidence...I've become a nevada pupil. I believe in these 5 things; 1. We have the best big game coach! 2. We have the best big game QB! 3. We have the best WR corp in the country! 4. We have the best "D" in the country! 5. We have the best fans in the country!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:14:50 PM)
Man Law! How can you beat 1 and 2! Impossible. And you didn't even mention Beanie Wells in that list. I love Pittman, always have! Watched him play at Buchtel more than a couple of times. But Wells is a different animal for all the world to see on Saturday. How about a 3 and 2 going 60 yards for a touchdown? Can we see some of that on Saturday?
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:15:31 PM)
You never hope for injuries, but it sure was nice to give Boone, Gonzo, Patterson, and Pitcock some games off from the wear and tear towards the end of the season.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:15:31 PM)
Healthy, fresh...things are good! Things are real good!
Poz79 (Nov 16, 2006 5:17:08 PM)
I know tsun is good against the run but I keep feeling Beanie is going to have a big day, maybe the nail in the coffin type long TD run. What non-starter do you think makes a big contribution?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:17:08 PM)
Beanie and Homan...two guys I've liked a whole lot for a long time. Brian Hartline keeps rearing his ugly head out there. What a player he's becoming!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:18:36 PM)
How many yards does Pitt get on the ground? In the air?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:18:36 PM)
Pitt's got to go for 100 plus but it would be nice to see Beanie get 100 also! What a game to get that elusive total finally!
OTTOBUCKTWO (Nov 16, 2006 5:20:01 PM)
Do you need anyone to sharpen your keyboard(you don't use pencils anymore). I'm available on say the 18th around 3:30pm!!!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:20:02 PM)
No...but you would think that my camera bag must weigh a ton with all the help that I've been offered carrying it around at the game this week! Original Otto...I like that! Smile!
Poz79 (Nov 16, 2006 5:21:57 PM)
If saturday's atmosphere doesn't turn Dionte Allen to OSU nothing will! Will he be the 3rd member of this class from up north?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:21:57 PM)
Washington, Barksdale, Allen and Johnson equal four! Oh well...I'll settle for two, three would be very nice and four would be wonderful! I've been positive about Allen for a long time now. No need to change my thinking now! This could help push him over the edge but he may be in denial still.
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:23:30 PM)
Can we get to Henne with our d-line or do we continue to see a blitz more often? I think he will respond poorly to being punched in the mouth (can you say Ken Dorsey).
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:23:30 PM)
Ohio State has to blitz and blitz often. Bring Antonio Smith from all directions. Bring Laurinatis and Terry early and often. Bring the kitchen sink. If you let Henne pick away at you he's pretty good at it. Can't let him get comfortable. Bust him in the chops early!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:24:17 PM)
How about Antonio Smith? Is he out of his mind or what. He should have his own cheering section. He is playing lights out this year. You've got to love Antonio Smith.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:25:24 PM)
And if this whole Ohio State-Michigan thing ain't enough. I'm going to see St. X and Colerain tomorrow night. I'm going to be bouncing around Nippert Stadium tomorrow night. And then the Browns and Steelers play Sunday I think! Geez!
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:27:13 PM)
Would this be the least beat up an OSU team has ever been going into a scUM game? It sure seems to me that aside from Russell, we are at almost 100% health.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:27:13 PM)
Good call 5uperbucks...let's not forget about Anderson Russell. This team is sick. Wire-to-wire...got to believe!
bucky456 (Nov 16, 2006 5:30:55 PM)
Gary, we hear a lot about UM's OL and DL, but do you consider UM to have the best overall offense we have faced this year?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:30:55 PM)
Sure do bucky....I think back to watching them play Notre Dame early in the year. Scary! But this is Ohio State they're playing not Notre Dame or Penn State for that matter. I believe that Manningham is the only one that can really hurt the Buckeyes but Ohio State cannot allow Henne the time to let Manningham burn them. It's that simple.
section22 (Nov 16, 2006 5:31:31 PM)
Would the coaches have time after the Michigan game is over to get a commitment from a prospect?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:31:31 PM)
Sure section 22...Sunday before they go home is a great time for that.
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:32:09 PM)
How do we keep Manningham from having a big game?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:32:09 PM)
Pressure Henne relentlessly!
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:32:35 PM)
I know this is a question for Steve but what are the odds of getting Jack Park in for a chat sometime? That would be fun.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:32:36 PM)
Steve is on tomorrow with a chat... you can ask him then! He's the man!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:34:58 PM)
And speaking of Steve, he will be a phone guest tonight on the weekly cable TV show that I am on in the Youngstown area. So if you're in the area check out your local Armstrong or Warner channel's for MY WTV sports talk! 10:30 p.m! Steve is going to share his ridiculous amount of knowledge on the show tonight. You can call into the show and ask questions when Steve is on. Check out Armstrong channel 13 and whatever channel on Warner and the Dish network also.
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:35:31 PM)
What are you hearing about Thompson, is there any chance at all that he actually comes here?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:35:31 PM)
Just having him in town for this game gives Ohio State a chance no question.
Kleintime16 (Nov 16, 2006 5:37:27 PM)
Who is the secret weapon this year, ala Brandon Joe/ Andree Tyree?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:37:27 PM)
How about some more of Stan White plannting PB into the turf again this year. I would love nothing more than to see PB and SC lose to Ohio State again. And Manningham of course. But Manningham was one of my guys that I really hated to lose to Michigan. I'm assuming he will have a very large chip on his shoulder on Saturday.
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:39:29 PM)
Where would Hines fit in with all of the young backers already here and the few that are sure to come in next year? I'm not sure he can get onto the field?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:39:29 PM)
I'd bring him in and worry about fitting him in later. He's a tremendous football player. Great kid. Good family. And he's from Glenville! I'm sure hoping he's a Buckeye!
OTTOBUCKTWO (Nov 16, 2006 5:40:28 PM)
I don't see um's offense making hay against our D either! What about you?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:40:28 PM)
No way! That's the beauty of it all. Three and out! They do not have enough fire power! Bottom line!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:41:47 PM)
Tell me that Sam Webb is not a HOMER! Listening to him we should believe that this is the greatest defense in the history of college football coming to Columbus. Let's see how their front seven covers Ginn, Gonzo, Robo, Hall, Hartline, Nicol!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:41:47 PM)
I'm sure their people think I'm a homer! Smile! Let the game begin!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:43:13 PM)
Everyone talks about the UM defense but we have the defense that doesn't allow anyone to score. I think we get our respect this weekend!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:43:13 PM)
I think Ohio State just gets more respect! The numbers don't lie. The turnover margin doesn't lie. This is JT's dream team of all team's he's ever coached. I've seen almost every single one of them! This is the team! Wire-to-wire.
Guest (Nov 16, 2006 5:44:31 PM)
Is there ANYWAY OSU loses this game? because I dont think there is ... just look at last year at thier place. Who would have thought following that game that OSU would have won with all the mishaps. there is NO WAY OSU loses!!!!!!!!!!!!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:44:31 PM)
Troy the Wolverine chimed in with this logical comment before he left the board and I have to agree with him!
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:45:31 PM)
Gary, what is the story on the field? Is it firm and ready for the track meet Saturday? I saw the comment from nevada that it should be the fastest field at the 'shoe all year.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:45:31 PM)
I'm sorry I have no insight on the field conditions. Again ask Steve about that tomorrow during his chat at 2 p.m. I believe it is.
OTTOBUCKTWO (Nov 16, 2006 5:46:54 PM)
How will the new turf hold up in THE GAME? what about all the fans afterward?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:46:54 PM)
It was crazy on the field 4 years ago after the Michigan game but I'll be ready for it. Who cares about the turf after the game!
Poz79 (Nov 16, 2006 5:47:20 PM)
Did you ever hear the inside scoop from anyone at harding on Manningham's health?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:47:20 PM)
No but I was told he's very good to go!
5uperbucks (Nov 16, 2006 5:48:43 PM)
Gary, is Jimmy underpaid? Number 7 in the total pay scale seems low for the work he's doing at tOSU. I stated in a thread that if OSU wins out (when) that he should get another pay adjustment and 5 more years. Discuss...
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:48:43 PM)
You bet he is but he's making a whole lot of cash working his dream job in life...not many of us are that fortunate...good for him. More money will follow for JT!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:49:27 PM)
Please tell me that you will feel better when Lee Corso picks UM, then we have no chance of losing!
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:49:27 PM)
I really don't believe he can logically do that? He has to put the Brutus head on!
chuangtsu (Nov 16, 2006 5:51:54 PM)
What kind of season has Everge had?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:51:54 PM)
Nothing spectacular to be honest but the potential and upside regarding Evege is tremendous! He played most of the season on offense and his yardage production wasn't anything to get excited about. But he's a team-first player, a hard-worker and he's got some tremendous physical ability.
OTTOBUCKTWO (Nov 16, 2006 5:53:45 PM)
I live in the country and we ain't got no wolverenes. I guess I'll shoot me a groundhog, paint some yellow stripes on it, and shoot it again!!!!What will you do to get ready?
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:53:45 PM)
I'll start my day early on Saturday, be around a lot of great Buckeye fans all morning and into the afternoon, and then start my working day around 1:15 till whenever! I'm so much looking forward to it.
GaryHousteau (Nov 16, 2006 5:56:15 PM)
Guys...I have some place to be tonight so I have to call it a wrap. This was the only time I could fit in a chat this week so I'm glad I got to talk to some of you guys for a while anyway. It's been fun as always. Thanks for your participation. Steve's got that great webcast planned for tomorrow from 9 to Noon I think so tune in for that. I'll be on that for a brief time as will many of us at Bucknuts. Just another great service we offer to our subscribers. We so very much appreciate your business.
