Helwagen Chat: Nov. 17 Archive

Here are excerpts from Friday's Chat with Bucknuts.com managing editor Steve Helwagen. He conducts these Chat sessions each week for Bucknuts subscribers. NevadaBuck will recap the Michigan game in a Chat set for 1 p.m. Monday.

mckbuckeye (Nov 17, 2006 10:37:00 AM)
Steve - what effect does the passing of Bo have on the Buckeyes! Will Tress say sorry about Bo but no Mercy!

keato (Nov 17, 2006 10:37:16 AM)
Steve, very sad news on the passing of Coach Bo!!!!

hondo (Nov 17, 2006 10:41:50 AM)
Bob Davie just said he didn't think the passing would really play a part of the game but Herbie said he thought it would.

sshank88 (Nov 17, 2006 10:43:48 AM)
Its just unbelievable that something like this could happen on the eve of such an historic game...it puts things in perspective.

keato (Nov 17, 2006 10:44:59 AM)
Steve, what player for the blue scares you the most, give me one for both sides of the ball.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:45:26 AM)
All right, I will work back and then go forward. Hey, Keato!

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:45:37 AM)
The passing of Bo ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:46:46 AM)
It is sad. That cantankerous old man was all over the news this week and even yesterday was saying "they'll fire Lloyd Carr over my dead body." I think it will have an impact for Michigan. Carr was one of his proteges. Maybe it's like Notre Dame and George Gipp. I don't know. Sad story and kind of puts a damper on what is an amazing game otherwise.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:47:02 AM)
Hondo, regarding passing ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:48:00 AM)
Michigan is a run-first team. They and Illinois were the only Big Ten teams that rushed for more yards than they passed. The conditions say light winds, just a little chilly. Ohio State just needs to let Troy be Troy and everything should be fine. He can make all the throws. So Ted is covered by Hall, somebody else will be open.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:48:51 AM)
Keato asks which player for the Blue scares me the most on both sides of the ball ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:49:37 AM)
On defense, it's LaMarr Woodley. He runs through brick walls to hit QBs, it seems. He's pretty good and with OSU shaky at LT (is it Boone, Schafer or Cordle, your guess is as good as mine) that has to concern you. ..

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:50:23 AM)
On offense, I would ordinarily say Mario Manningham. He torched ND for3 spectacular TDs, but the knee has slowed him down. So I'll say Mike Hart. He's better than he was in 2004. Their run blocking scheme is devastating ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:51:37 AM)
I was surprised to see on second-and-long even how they run their lead play with the zone blocking. They are confident he'll still get 5-6 yards and make it third-and-4. All he needs is a tiny seam and he explodes through there. He is tough and fights for every yard. OSU has been shaky against the run at times this year, so if Hart breaks loose for, say, 25 for 125, that could be the ballgame.

rbuck (Nov 17, 2006 10:51:51 AM)
Steve, Is Bucknuts having a preparty tomorrow?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:52:11 AM)
Nope, no pregame party this time around. We'll see about doing another one next year.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:52:25 AM)
We will have functions at the NC game if they make it, I understand.

hondo (Nov 17, 2006 10:52:30 AM)
outside of Bo, any new developments on the eve of the game. Also, I heard you were hanging with Tara Reid today, is that true?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:53:27 AM)
I wish ... ha ha. I heard the line was out the door and down the street at Eddie's for Tara and Cowherd. Funny story about Tara. There is a youtube video making the rounds about how she was snubbed at the doorway of a club like she's on the B-list now. The guy filming it catches these 2 girls walking toward the bar ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:54:08 AM)
It's Paris and her friend. They glide right down the sidewalk and through the door without a glance or anything. The guy then pans back to Tara and her posse and they look someone just peed in their corn flakes.

keato (Nov 17, 2006 10:54:21 AM)
Steve, someone other than the usual suspects for OSU will have to step up tomorrow who do you see that person being?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:55:33 AM)
Maybe Roy Hall. Poor guy had a nice TD called back last week. He is past due (about 40 games past due, to be honest). Maybe he gets one. Beyond that, Patterson has been quiet. Maybe he sparks something. Would love to see Mitchell make a big play too. He had a great game last week.

rbuck (Nov 17, 2006 10:55:44 AM)
By reading from all of the "experts" our only chance is if Troy has a great game. Am I biased by saying Michigan is only better than us at a few positions? I feel like a lot of positions it's a push, but to say that Troy is our only hope is ludacris!

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:56:35 AM)
Oh, I agree. I did a chat on GBW.com last night and they thought I was on qualludes when I said OSU will get 100 yards rushing. I think OSU gets 100-120 on the ground and 225-275 through the air. That will be more than enough to win this game ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:56:41 AM)
But make no mistake ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:57:11 AM)
Troy MUST play well. No picks, high percentage passes and probably 30-40 yards on the ground with a minimum of sacks.

HEAD (Nov 17, 2006 10:57:20 AM)
Hey Steve #30 in your programs here. Any word on the field conditions for the game? Hopefully we can have a fast track for all our wideouts. Maybe get Teddy ballgame loose for some big plays.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:57:36 AM)
Keato and Head in the same place at the same time (these are some of my homies) ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:58:34 AM)
Field conditions are perfect, I understand. They put the new field in 2 weeks ago and have had it covered all week during the heavy rains (probably 2 inches or more this week). Everybody is saying it is pristine. I wonder if Ted's toe could hold him back more than a messy field. I dunno.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:58:50 AM)
Couple more on this topic ...

BensDad (Nov 17, 2006 10:58:52 AM)
Your thoughts on the affect of Bo's passing on the game. If I missed it already, please ignore.

ohs (Nov 17, 2006 10:58:55 AM)
just joining, what impact will Bo's death have? It could really fire them up, no?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 10:59:56 AM)
Yes, this could be like George Gipp and ND, when you come down to it. There is a lot of spirit in that program, just as there is here. Schembechler was kind of the overseer. He still had an office inside their facility, which had his name.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:01:27 AM)
Carr was his protege. So you know he will want to honor him with a win. Carr will speak on Bo's passing later today, we've been told.

Pastor Jack (Nov 17, 2006 11:01:32 AM)
Gary seems downright giddy in his chat last night and made some outrageous predictions. Do you really see this game as a mismatch ans tOSU winning handily?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:02:40 AM)
Well, I said 27-17. Gary said 31-14. He's a little more optimistic than me. Troy is 2-0 against UM and Gary said that isn't by accident. It's because he can play. But this is a much better UM team than he's faced the last 2 years, as well. I think it's a tight one and OSU pulls away with a late FG or TD to win by 10.

Guest (Nov 17, 2006 11:02:49 AM)
Hey Steve, among all the talk and hype surrounding this game, there seems to have been very little talk about the OSU defense. Do you suppose that is because there doesn't seem to be a bonafide star on our D? (although Jim L. seems to be becoming one before our eyes)

hondo (Nov 17, 2006 11:02:55 AM)
Steve, are chnging your score prediction with passing of Bo? I really think it inspires both teams not just UM.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:03:03 AM)
No, I'll stay with what I have, thank you.

Chas15 (Nov 17, 2006 11:03:08 AM)
I don't understand why the OSU d-line doesn't get very much respect. They seem to have been great all year until this week. What gives?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:04:51 AM)
I agree, they have been really good. I think early in the year, OSU had 3-4 games where it struggled stopping the run. The last 5 were much better efforts. They've been dinged up here and there, but the key will be how much heat Pitcock, Gholston and Richardson can generate. I don't think the RT (Riley, I believe) is that good against a speed rush guy. Pitcock needs to do a number on Bihl and the guards. Long at LT is a beast, though. ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:05:09 AM)
They need to fight through the zone scheme, gum up Hart and wait for LBs to finish him off.

ohs (Nov 17, 2006 11:05:19 AM)
I think everyone is focusing on Troy and Gonzo hurt them last yr, that Ginn is getting lost in the shuffle, i'd give him the ball a TON tomorrow and let them stop him.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:05:56 AM)
That's a tough match-up with Leon Hall, who everybody is raving about, though. I imagine they will do things like Shot-Ginn to get the match-ups they want to have. Send Teddy deep (ha ha).

keato (Nov 17, 2006 11:06:04 AM)
I will take Rory Nicol....... Head is in the house!!! have fun at the game.. Score???

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:06:43 AM)
Yes, Nicol is a guy in this game who could get 2-3 catches for first downs or even a play action TD on the goal line out of the 3-TE set. Score I'm sticking with is 27-17.

BensDad (Nov 17, 2006 11:06:54 AM)
Do you believe stopping Hart first is the key? I would think that if we can't put pressure on Henne he will find his WR's and that will open it up more for Hart and then we are in a shootout - Who outscores the other.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:09:49 AM)
Michigan may change their tendencies and try to throw more. But their bread and butter is the lead play with Hart choosing his hole. If OSU can limit him to 1 or 2 yards and keep UM to second- and third-and-long, that puts it in Henne's hands. With OSU's coverage ability, I don't see them completing any long balls. So, really, UM will lean on the run ... or try to.

HEAD (Nov 17, 2006 11:10:07 AM)
Steve, I think we come out throwing the ball early and often. Much like the Texas game. We have some much talent at WR and then we can try and establish the run game. Your thoughts?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:11:11 AM)
I agree. I think Tressel will try and attack from every angle. It always looks unorthodox, but Tressel and Smith always seem to have a reason for what they do. I think their track record these last 6-8 games (really since PSU) speaks for itself.

Pastor Jack (Nov 17, 2006 11:11:22 AM)
I am told the line in as Vegas is 7 points. But most everyone I hear (except Gary) is saying a very tight game..and even some saying scUM winning. What are the chances this is a blowout (over 10 point victory by either team?)

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:11:59 AM)
Seems unlikely. Only thing that could happen is Troy just gets hot and throws for 350 or something. but these teams are so evenly matched. They are mirror images ... except for him.

Chas15 (Nov 17, 2006 11:12:02 AM)
Tell us about the attitude you felt doing the M-chat. Also, what's their biggest blind spot?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:13:36 AM)
It was cool. They were glad I was able to spill some beans on Ohio State. They were perturbed when I told them to watch their step (why don't you police that, blah, blah, blah). I told them what I tell OSU fans going other places -- wear your stuff at your seat and don't call attention to yourself. ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:14:07 AM)
Their biggest blind spot may be the secondary. If they have to sub a lot, some touchdowns will follow. That's what happened vs. Minnesota and Ball State. Kind of weak there.

rbuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:14:14 AM)
Come on, on the Bo issues. How much "UP" for a game can a team be. If both teams aren't "up" enough already, then there is a problem with Motivation.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:14:18 AM)
Agreed.

Chas15 (Nov 17, 2006 11:14:22 AM)
It seems like this game is perfectly set up for Pittman to have a difference making day. Doesn't need to save anything. Played great all year except one quarter. Has something big to prove to everyone and a team that would want to help him prove it.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:15:12 AM)
Yep, I think Pitt could have a good day. Not sure he has 100 in him. You know, if there was no Chris Wells, Pitt would probably have 1500 already.

Pastor Jack (Nov 17, 2006 11:15:24 AM)
Do you think our front four will get pressure on Henne or will be have to send pressure in the form of LB's, Safetys and Corners to get him hurried? Also, will we double Manningham or shade a safety over to his side to prevent the big play?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:16:33 AM)
one sec

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:18:27 AM)
Yes, OSU will try and get pressure with the front 4 and see what happens, but will not hesitate to bring blitzes as need be. My feeling on MM is to play him straight up with Jenkins or Smith and let him prove what he can do. I would not deviate from the plan. Since he's been back, he has not been the same MM. Maybe OSU plays more nickel.

HEAD (Nov 17, 2006 11:18:34 AM)
Are you planning on taking in the BBall game tonight? Maybe a little warm up to get those Buckeye juice flowing. I think we could maybe pull off the double NC w/ the FB and BB teams this year. It's good to be a Buckeyes these days.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:19:50 AM)
Yes, will be there. The EKU game is part of the student ticket, so they have over 19,000 tickets sold for tonight's game, it's on ONN in Cols. and various other outlets and also on the Full Court package. I don't see an NC in bkb. Maybe an Elite Eight or Final Four. Then again, if they lose to UNC and Fla. without Oden, then meet them again in Atlanta with him, could be a different story.

Pastor Jack (Nov 17, 2006 11:19:58 AM)
Ginn seemed a lot slower these past two games. Is the injury with his toe hampering him enough that he doesn't have the 'flash' he has had in the past?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:20:32 AM)
I think it has hampered him. He looked good on that fade against Northwestern, though. Wow.

Poz79 (Nov 17, 2006 11:20:37 AM)
Did Earle Bruce ever have much of an off the field relationship with Bo or was that strictly profesional?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:22:17 AM)
I don't honestly know. Their 9 games weren't for as much as the 10 where Woody played Bo, although a few were a big deal like 79, 84 and 86. My guess is they were well acquainted and just had a grudging admiration for one another. That was a time when the rivalry was serious serious business.

MacAuley says BuckeyesBy10 (Nov 17, 2006 11:22:30 AM)
Hey Steve. thanks for taking the time to chat today. Seems like (almost) everybody in the media is caught up with michigan's #1 run defense and Ohio State's #1 scoring defense gets little respect. Your thoughts?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:23:32 AM)
I agree, what UM has done has been astounding. Some teams did not even try to establish the run because it was futile. But OSU's scoring defense is incredibly impressive. Teams get turned away on scoring chances. After watching a Big East game, you get a better appreciation for it.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:23:41 AM)
Ha ha. That was a mess last night, huh?

Poz79 (Nov 17, 2006 11:23:51 AM)
I believe you are like me and against a rematch in AZ. What's your guess, will that happen? If not who do you think will be there?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:25:28 AM)
I have said Florida because they have an easier path -- FSU and probably Arkansas. USC must beat Cal and ND, though both are at home. I'm ambivalent about a rematch, I guess. Would suck to win and have to get back up to try and win again, especially if it's a tight finish here. ND has an outside shot, but I don't see how they go ahead of OSU or UM. That's kind of a head scratcher. One crushed them in last year's bowl and the other crushed them in South Bend this year.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:25:36 AM)
I'm tired of hearing about their "front seven" being so dominant. I want to see their front seven cover Ginn, Gonzo, Robo, Hall, and Hartline!

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:26:08 AM)
Ha ha. Those concerns will fall on the back four. I agree, if OSU can just give Smith some time, it could look like the first half against Texas.

Copleybuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:26:15 AM)
Obviously the UM defensive line is great, but how does our offensive line stack up against them. The media asks as if they are unblockable. I think our line is pretty good and healthy.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:27:08 AM)
OSU was shaky at Illinois without Boone. The question is how well will he play and how much will he play? If he is like he was against Indiana and MSU, etc., then they should be fine. But if he is still struggling physically, OSU could have a tough time.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:27:13 AM)
Do we see more of three linebacker sets, trying to stop the run and force Henne to pass?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:27:48 AM)
Possibly. UM did not run a lot of 3-wide until it got to third down, from what I saw. They will run Hart out of the I and also out of single back, though.

JimC (Nov 17, 2006 11:27:56 AM)
Hi Steve. How did the live Bucknuts broadcast go? I caught the last hour. Good stuff!! What did Mt Bucknuts say? He always cracks me up!!

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:28:35 AM)
That was a great 3-1/2 hour ride and we're 30 mins from finishing when we learned Bo had passed away. We had over 1,000 people listening, which I think is pretty cool. Maybe we can do more of that. ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:29:15 AM)
Mr. B is quite a card. He said he spoke at a lawyer's club meeting in Dayton this week and told a lot of Michigan and ND jokes, FWIW (ha ha). He's a pretty good storyteller.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:29:37 AM)
Is it risky to have the ball in Wells' hands for this game?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:30:23 AM)
one sec

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:30:55 AM)
Well(s) ...

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:32:09 AM)
It was great he came through last week fumble-free. He did not play until OSU had a 21-3 lead, though. But he got 11 carries for 99 yards. That was a good first step. They need him. Pitt won't be able to get it done entirely against this defense. He'll be needed in short yardage sets. Hopefully, the Maurice Wells lesson last year (fumble on own 35 setting up a TD) was learned.

Guest (Nov 17, 2006 11:32:21 AM)
Thanks for the chat steve. We have to win ya know. Everyone at my Air Force Squadron has been giving me shit all week the TTUN is going to win. So I preparing a little crow pie for them to enjoy next week. Even my commander said at his CC Call that if OSU wins we will have to listen for next two months. Talk w/ later. GO BUCKS!

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:32:25 AM)
Can we shut down Hart?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:33:05 AM)
Shut down? Well for years OSU has prided itself on stopping the run, even against UM. They need to channel some of that back because this year's team has allowed 4 teams to get 140 or more that way.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:33:11 AM)
I see Hartline and maybe Hall as being the "surprise" secret weapons for this game. You can't contain Ginn and Gonzo without leaving some great spots for Robo, Hartline, and Hall.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:33:32 AM)
Agreed, those guys should be open, especially if locked on LBs. Smith just needs an extra second to find them.

Copleybuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:33:35 AM)
Is Tressel bringing in anyone to talk to the team before The Game?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:34:05 AM)
Not sure. They don't discuss a lot of plans. Earle was in early this week to set the tone. They usually have some former players come through and share their thoughts as well.

buckOfive (Nov 17, 2006 11:34:09 AM)
Heard anything about recruiting? Anyone of these visitors going to be a Buckeye?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:14 AM)
They have 7 kids on visits -- Rolle, Wright, Barksdale, Thompson, Davis, James Wilson and Clyde Yandell. Last 2 are OL from Fla. and may be verbaled elsewhere. I think OSU is in great shape with the first 3, though Barksdale may not announce until A-A Game.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:23 AM)
just joined, could you give me you prediction real quick. Also I couldnt belive the chat last night the prediction was 37-14 i just cant go that extreme

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:39 AM)
I'm saying 27-17, tight game, insurance TD or FG late seals it.

mckbuckeye (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:42 AM)
Hey Steve - Do you think MM will be at full strength?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:50 AM)
Closer than he was last 2 weeks.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:35:52 AM)
Condition of the field for Sat?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:36:02 AM)
Supposedly pristine. I have not been there.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:36:06 AM)
It's been tarped.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:36:12 AM)
When we go in a three man line (certain pass situations) why not open up R. Rose? Did we waste his redshirt?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:36:57 AM)
No, Heacock has just held him back in recent weeks because Wilson has come on. I don't know what to say about that other than he moves right into the rotation (I imagine) next year. He got some good seasoning this year.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:37:08 AM)
Can't RS everybody. You need some depth.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:37:26 AM)
What happened to Nevada this week, thought we would get a chat?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:37:55 AM)
We were booked up this week with Duane, Dave, Webb, Gary and me. We're saving him for his usual third Monday slot on Monday. Can you wait 3 more days?

Chas15 (Nov 17, 2006 11:38:09 AM)
I think the first 10 minutes of the game will go a long way to determining the outcome. If OSU gets up early it forces Tsun to go to their weakness. If OSU is down they still have the ability to come back (last year). Less risk for Tress in taking some chances. Do you think Tress goes conservative to avoid early mistakes or takes some calculated risks to get up first?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:38:43 AM)
Conservative to avoid mistakes. That's how these games were played in the 70s. You just waited for the opponent to slip up and you pounced.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:38:59 AM)
I have to tell you that I now know why all of my non-buckeye friends hate when I talk about college football. If I sound anything like Webb or Turel you would think that the Buckeyes stink and that team from up north is the best team ever! I can't wait to write them an e-mail Saturday evening!

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:39:26 AM)
They are very high on their boys, that is for sure. But that's what they know. They've watched them demolish teams for 11 weeks.

buckOfive (Nov 17, 2006 11:39:31 AM)
Who is Ohio State going to play in the NC game?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:39:41 AM)
I said Florida, but USC would not shock me.

rbuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:40:49 AM)
Where do I have to go to meet Nevada?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:40:54 AM)
Nevada, of course.

rbuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:41:02 AM)
How many turnovers did each team have last year. I was thinking 2 for OSU and 0 for Michigan? Is this correct?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:41:24 AM)
I recall the Mo Wells fumble. That may have been it, I dunno. I don't think Troy threw any picks.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:41:33 AM)
What do you think we can gain on the ground.. Sorry about the last message sent i was watching a recording from this morning.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:42:00 AM)
I'm saying 100-120 on the ground. They'll meet in the middle. They have not played anybody as good as OSU and vice versa.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:42:06 AM)
Your thoughts on O'Dowd not coming this weekend? Does that mean we are done with him? What about Davis or Wright? Ben Martin?

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:42:53 AM)
I honestly don't know. I heard it was because his team was in the playoffs. He said they said they canceled all visits, which obviously is not the case. Who knows? They must have a grand plan of some sort.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:43:42 AM)
I think Wright likes OSU a lot and could verbal. Davis could also be swayed but may not verbal right away. Martin will be up for the game and back for an official, which is double the exposure.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:43:47 AM)
Good sign.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:43:50 AM)
Do you think this news on Bo will really fire this team up.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:44:20 AM)
Yeah, maybe a little bit. We don't see it, but they love Lloyd and appreciate him. If they see how much this has touched him, they will go to the wall for him.

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:44:29 AM)
Who do you look for on defense to have a big game? I'm think we see something special from Pitccock, Patterson, and Richardson.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:46:25 AM)
Pitcock needs to lease Bihl with an option to buy. Bihl is somewhat of a self-made guy since he was lightly regarded and Pitcock was everybody's blue chip. Richardson just keeps getting better each week. Maybe this week he becomes a true dominant force. Patterson has largely been taking up space and blockers since his injury. He has not made many tackles. Maybe the coaches believe he is still making plays (there is a difference, especially if he is able to pressure a QB or re-route an RB into somebody, or free an LB to make a stop).

Copleybuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:46:52 AM)
How crazy is Columbus right now. Just saw the UM buses leave Ann Arbor and are due to arrive in Columbus at around 4:30. Just wonder what they are to expect when they get there.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:47:56 AM)
It's nuts. There was a line out the door at Eddie's for Cowherd's show. All of the bars and restaurants are full and everybody is wearing their OSU stuff. There is gridlock on High Street. Otherwise, it is a normal mundane Friday.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:48:02 AM)
What do you think Hart will do tommarrow. This make me more nevous than anything

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:48:42 AM)
I see him around 80-90 yards, maybe a little less. I don't think he gets off and has a huge day, but I think he does enough to keep UM in it and allows them to play some ball control. Not enough, though.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:48:50 AM)
There talking on Cold Pizza that this might effect the crowd noise tommarrow for the Game. Might not be as wild as usual. What do you think

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:49:08 AM)
Uh, no. It will affect the crowd noise when they do the moment of silence, but that's about it.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:49:15 AM)
Anything else before I run ???

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:49:44 AM)
first 3 plays what do we run

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:50:36 AM)
First play is Pittman up the gut for 3 yards. Then 4 wide and an out pass to Ginn for exactly 7 yards and a first down. Then Pittman up the gut for 3 yards. You asked and I told you (ha ha).

chuangtsu (Nov 17, 2006 11:50:48 AM)
why are we not doing our own "white out"? I have to think the 3:30 start will give us even more of a home field advantage.

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:51:01 AM)
Yep, it will be dark by late first half. Makes a good point.

7-11 (Nov 17, 2006 11:51:04 AM)
They are saying Wolv win this hands down with Bo news

SteveHelwagen (Nov 17, 2006 11:51:21 AM)
They don't know anything. Teams are dead even ... except for Troy. He's the difference.

Copleybuck (Nov 17, 2006 11:51:26 AM)
