Jamesley Jean talks about football and more

Tampa, FL TE Jamesley Jean is a great player and person. Here is the latest on him.

Ohio State has an early commitment from a tight end this year in Youngstown Ursuline's Louis Irizarry, but there are other tight ends out there they are still looking at.  One is Jamesley Jean from Jefferson High School in Tampa, Florida.

Jamesley is rated as one of Florida's top TE prospects and the #18 TE nationally.  The Buckeyes are one of three schools who have offered, and Jamesly is thinking of visiting.

"I am considering making a visit to Ohio State but it will be later," he said.  "I have offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin and Indiana."

Jamesley says he has kept an eye on the Buckeyes in the past.

"I have watched Ohio State a lot over the years," he said. "I like the balances that they show. Tight ends like to catch a pass or two."

Jamesley's size and speed ("I am 6-5 and about 225. I ran a 4.53. My goal is to break 4.5," he said) makes him an intriguing athlete, and he is open to playing other positions.

"I don't really care what position I play," he said. "DE or TE is fine with me. When I first started I didn't want to play TE. My coach says he thinks defense... I will be used more at WR this year."

" I didn't play DE consistently last year and never really have. Only about 20 plays last year."

How did Jamesley do last year statistically?  He had no idea.

"I would love to give you my stats but I just don't keep track of such things," he said.  "I am a team player."

That team sounds like a great one as they are one of the best in the south this year.  "We are ranked # 2 in Florida and 11th nationally," Jamesley said. "Pretty much all the seniors are being recruited by somebody."

Jamesley hasn't been playing football too long, and he said that his beginnings at tight end didn't start promisingly.

"I didn't play football until my 9th grade year and didn't play any sports until I was in 6th grade," he said.  "When I first started playing TE I couldn't catch a cold. I couldn't run a route."

Needless to say, he's improved since then as the scholarship offers show.

Jamesley doesn't just want to excel on the field though. He wants to nail a high score on his tests as well.

"I take the test in September," he said.  "I am shooting for a 1270. I like to set my goals high."

Jamesley said he likes to listen to music, but his collection might not be indicative of a typical high school student.

"I listen to jazz and R&B," he said.  "People look at my CD case and hand it right back to me. I like to listen to R&B before games."

Hopefully the smooth sounds before the game will equal some smooth play during the game this year for Jamesley Jean.
