Johnny Adams: "Mr. Excitement"

Akron Buchtel star athlete Johnny Adams received his first football scholarship offer from Akron on Saturday. Adams, who stars on both sides of the ball for the Griffins, is one of the top juniors in Ohio. Adams is drawing a lot of recruiting interest from most of the top schools in the mid-west.

Around the city of Akron, Buchtel's Johnny Adams is known as "Mr. Excitement." Adams stars for the Griffins in football, basketball and track. On Saturday he received his first football scholarship offer from Akron University.

"Oh man, that was really exciting to get that first offer," Adams said shortly after leading Buchtel to a victory on the hardwood Sunday. "Reno Ferri is recruiting me for Akron. He's a really cool guy and he's been to our school a lot."

Adams is drawing recruiting interest from most of the MAC and Big-10 schools. He has been to Ohio State for bowl practice and has plans to make a few unofficial visits this winter.

"I had a great time at Ohio State watching them practice for Florida," he explained. "Things didn't go so well for them out in Arizona but that happens. I like Ohio State a lot. Tim Beckman is recruiting me and we get along real well. I'll be going to Notre Dame for a basketball game in the next few weeks. Michigan wants me to come up for a game too. I've talked with Scott Loeffler a few times."

Adams, who projects as a cornerback and kick returner in college, already has a list of favorite schools and knows what he to work on to get to the next level.

"I like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Michigan and Akron right now," Adams said. "I'm working real hard on my strength and speed right now. I ran a 4.37 forty at Toledo's camp last spring. I think I can get faster. I'm trying to develop a more consistent technique in running. I love running track and that's where I'll get faster."

Buchtel head coach Claude Brown is impressed with Adam's potential.

"Most colleges are looking at him as a pure cover cornerback," Brown noted. "Johnny is a flat out great athlete. He does well in the classroom and is a good kid too. He'll end up being recruited by everybody. He's the kind of kid you just put him on the field and let him make plays. You tell him what he needs to do and he does it. He's unbelievable as a return man. He can score every time he touches the football. We will get the football in his hands more next year. He'll play more on offense because he's dangerous with the football."

Johnny Adams will be one of the highest rated players in the class of 2008. He is a player we will track very closely at
