Can Darrington earn a Buckeye Offer?

Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel has gained a reputation for finding recruiting gems late in the process. Could Providence high school's Corey Darrington be the next one? We have the latest on this running back from Charlotte, N.C.

Corey Darrington of Charlotte, N.C., appears to be a name to watch out for as recruiting heads down the home stretch. Darrington, a 5-foot-11, 215-pound, running back put up some impressive numbers at Providence high school, including a 330-yard rushing performance, but has only recently started getting attention from college recruiters.

"Right now, I only have one scholarship offer from Elon," said Darrington. "I have no idea why the in-state schools like North Carolina and North Carolina State haven't talked with me much at all. Everybody down here seems surprised at that."

Darrington carries a 3.2 grade point average and scored well in the SAT. He is drawing interest from some out of state schools.

"It's been kind of hectic lately," Darrington explained. "I have set up a visit to Mississippi State and I have to call South Carolina tomorrow to schedule a visit there. Boston College is supposed to get back to me this week as well."

Darrington also mentioned a certain Big Ten power now getting involved in his recruitment.

"Ohio State has contacted me and seem interested in bringing me in for a visit," Darrington exclaimed. "Coach [Luke] Fickell talked with my dad and with me Saturday after noon. Ohio State is having a recruiting meeting tomorrow and they're supposed to call me tomorrow night to let me know where things stand.'

"My interest in Ohio State is extremely high. I would say they're at the top of my list along with South Carolina. This is all happening pretty fast and I'm just trying to see what teams are truly interested. I'm also looking forward to visiting Mississippi State."

Corey Darrington is a player we will continue to monitor at as recruiting heads into this crucial final stage.
