Future Buckeye: Dane Sanzenbacher

The Toledo area has a rich tradition of football history. Because of its proximity to the Michigan border, there is a lot to talk about when it is time for the Ohio State Vs. Michigan rivalry each and every year. There is no doubt which side of these debates that Dane Sanzenbacher was on.

Dane Sanzenbacher, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound wide receiver from Central Catholic High in Toledo, was one of the summer's hottest recruits.

He had offers from a handful of MAC schools until he participated in the Ted Ginn Bus Tour. Iowa offered and Ohio State followed, the Scout.com four-star prospect wasted little time in making a commitment, and is extremely humbled to be signing a National Letter of Intent with Ohio State.

"It is an exciting time in my life," Sanzenbacher said as he tried to explain what signing with the Buckeyes meant to him.

"I have a had a lot of time to think about it, and it is has started to sink in. I want to thank a lot of my teachers, coaches, and my parents who have all helped me get to this point."

"It is pretty big for me personally to be signing with Ohio State.," he continued. "Especially being from around here, because I was always a fan growing up. Making it official is going to be great."

The departures of Ted Ginn and Anthony Gonzales to the NFL may have opened up the door for Sanzenbacher to see some early playing time, but he is much more concerned with how their absence will affect the team.

"It is kind of bittersweet," Sanzenbacher began. "In one way I may get the chance to play early, but I am going to lose out on playing with and learning from two of the very best. Plus those two guys would have made the team that much better next year."

"The coaching staff told me that they do not plan on red shirting anybody. They want you to go a little bit in to the season before they make that decision. At some point in to the season they decide if it will be best to red shirt you or use you to help the team. If you are going to be able to make an impact your freshman year, then they are going to play you."

Sanzenbacher will enroll in classes beginning June 18th, so that he can go through the summer conditioning program with the team.

As a senior, Sanzenbacher finished the season with 61 receptions for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns. A big-game player, he had 40 receptions for 842 yards and nine touchdowns, 40 solo tackles and eight interceptions in seven career playoff games.
