"I talked with Illinois this week on the day they offered," he said. "I've been to their campus before on the Ginn bus tour. I like their staff a lot. Coach Zook is a great recruiter and he'll turn that team around real quick. I also spoke with Wisconsin this week and they gave offered. I also spent time there with the bus tour and I like what they do year after year. The Colorado coach sent me a text message that said they were offering me a scholarship. I really don't know much about them."
It has long been rumored that Ohio State will be offering Beachum and he spoke about the prospect of playing for the Buckeyes.
"I like Ohio State a lot but I'm really not sure if they will be offering," Beachum explained. "Hopefully it will come soon. I talked with Chris Wells at the Touchdown Club dinner on Saturday and he was really nice to talk with. I also spoke with Jim Heacock for a second there. They text me about once a week."
Beachum, who plays basketball at Cardinal Mooney, is in the process of putting together a list of camps to attend. He said some of his high school teammates might be joining him at several one-day camps.
"Dan McCarthy, Mike Zordich and Taylor Hill could be going with me to some senior day camps," he noted. "We are talking about going to Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State together. We want to do a lot together so we stay unified for next season. We want to defend our title and it's important that we stay together on and off the field."
Although basketball is taking up a lot of his time right now, Beachum is still working on being a better football player.
"I'm mostly interested in improving my speed," he said. "I can also get stronger and I plan on being better in my lateral movement as well. I know I can get a lot better as a player but hard work is the only way to do it."
Brandon is an excellent student and the college he eventually plays for must have a strong academic record and be committed to seeing its players graduate and become successful.
"My number one reason for selecting a college will be academics," he said emphatically. "I want to go into business or law and that will play a huge part in where I go. My father and I were talking about this today. Football will play a large part in my decision too, obviously. I'm not worried about what position I play or what side of the ball they want me to play. I like playing running back as well as I like playing linebacker. I have no preference for position."
When might Beachum be making his formal announcement on his college choice?
"I'm going to start narrowing my list down sometime in the spring," Beachum explained. "Right now I have no list and no favorite at all. I'll be taking a closer look at each school and I'll narrow it down to five. I want to take official visits in the fall. I would like to make a decision and announce it in November, probably near the end of our regular season."
