Is Hill in the Buckeyes Plans?

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney linebacker Taylor Hill is a player that can get overlooked because he's surrounded by other great players. Rest assured the college recruiters know who he is as evidenced by their offers.

When Youngstown Cardinal football is mentioned most people automatically think of Brandon Beachum, Danny McCarthy and Mike Zordich. While those three are great players it would be a mistake to overlook Taylor Hill. Hill has been offered scholarships by many of the leading programs in the nation and he received another Big Ten offer last week.

"Michigan State offered me last Saturday," Hill explained. "I have offers from Akron, Indiana, Miami of Ohio, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Syracuse and now Michigan State. My top three schools right now would be Oklahoma, Syracuse and Pitt of the ones that have offered."

Hill is hearing from Ohio State and admitted interest in the Buckeyes. He visited Ohio State during December and attended bowl practice.

"I just talked with Ohio State last week," he said. "Coach (Luke) Fickell and I talked for a little while. He said they're interested but they want to see where I fit in. He said they might be looking at me as a safety. Every other school is recruiting me as a linebacker though. I like coach (Jim) Tressel a lot. We spoke at bowl practice and we got along real well. I talked mostly to coach (Jim) Heacock that day. I'll be going to Ohio State's camp this summer for sure."

Hill has good size for a linebacker at 6' 2" and 205 pounds. Pitt recently offered him a scholarship after visiting there in March. He spoke about his interest in the Panthers program.

"Pitt offered me on the visit," Hill noted. "I spent a lot of time with coach [Dave] Wannstedt. He was a really cool guy and we had a nice time there. We watched practice and toured their facilities. The facilities at Pitt are great."

Hill is also anxious to show what he can do on the camp circuit and is planning on attending the All-American Combine in Pittsburgh on May 6.

"I'll be there and so will a lot of my teammates," Hill said. "We might have as many as eight players there from Mooney. It will be good to be able to compete against the best. That's what we pride ourselves in at Mooney. I want to run a better time in the forty than I have before. I've been working on my speed and I think I'll run in the 4.5's."

One look at Hill on film and it's easy to see why college recruiters are interested in this player. Hill will look to once again lead Cardinal Mooney to the state championship. With players like Beachum, McCarthy and Zordich alongside him a repeat championship could be a reality in 2007.
