Midwest's Best

The Ohio State recruiting effort is off to a hot start in 2008. Mike Adams, Jacob Stoneburner, DeVoe Torrnece, and DeVier Posey are all some of the most highly rated players in the Midwest, and all have earned Top 100 status in the initial Hot 100 rankings that were released earlier this week by Scout.com.

Mike Adams, a 6-foot-8, 300-pound offensive tackle from Coffman High in Dublin, Ohio, was honored to find out that he was named as the Midwest's top player when Scout.com and Midwest Regional Recruiting Analyst Bob Lichtenfels released the regional rankings on Thursday morning.

"It is crazy," Adams said of what it felt like to be ranked so highly.

"Last year I sat down and made myself a list of goals that I would like to accomplish over the next couple of years. On the goal sheet I listed that I would like to play in the Army All-American game. This ranking has really started to put that one goal in to perspective for me."

"It would be great to get out there on that field and show those other guys what I can do," he continued about his feelings about having the chance to represent the state of Ohio and the Ohio State Buckeyes on National Television.

"I would love to get out there and show people what Ohio football is all about. I want to show people that I deserve to be ranked as the No. 10 player in the country."

As you may imagine, Adams also listed winning the State Championship on his list of goals, and with all of the recruiting attention on some of the players at the school this year, they will definitely be entering the season with some high expectations. Adams believes his coach has the team ready to enter the season hungry.

"Coach Crabtree sat us all down and had a meeting about goals," Adams informed. "A few years ago we had a team that was very talented. They had possibly 11 division one guys between lacrosse and football. They had a little too much individualism and did not win it all. We (Seniors) are all just staying together like a family and help mentor the younger players who are coming up."

Adams is ready to take n the Spring Game this weekend at Ohio State when the Scarlet will match up against the Gray. In addition to battles on the field there will be some battles off of it as far as recruiting is concerned.

There are a number of the Buckeye's top targets coming in for an unofficial visits to see the campus, and Adams knows that it could be a potentially big weekend for his class.

"It will be a good weekend," Adams said. "There are a number of the top guys coming. It will be a good chance to try and ‘wow' some of the top remaining targets."

"Michael Brewster will be here. I know that J.B. Shugarts and Mike Zordich are coming. Andrew Sweat will also be here. I got to hang out with him some last time he was here."

"Hopefully it will give me, Jake, and Mike the chance to work on them a little," Adams laughed. "I hope it I is the first big step in landing the No. 1 recruiting class."

Adams will be participating in the Scout.com All-American Combine in Pittsburgh on May, 6th.
