"I'm happy with who has already offered but I'm still hoping for Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Ohio State," Staples admitted. "I'm also hearing from Virginia, Boston College, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, North Carolina and Wisconsin. It's been a pretty busy month."
"Coach Johnson and I stay in touch at least 2 or 3 times per week," Staples said. "He was at the Elite Skills Combine in Cleveland and we are in contact a lot more since then. He wants me to come to camp and show them that I deserve an offer. I have a lot of interest in Ohio State, especially if they would offer. I'll probably be going there but I'm not sure just yet. It all depends on my moms work schedule in June. She and I are supposed to sit down this weekend and put a schedule together. I also have an uncle in Chicago and he's going to take me to some of the schools in the Mid-West. I want to go to a lot of one-day camps."
Staples talked about what position he's being recruited at and what college recruiters are most impressed about him.
"I'm being recruited as an outside linebacker," he noted. "Most schools say they like my size. I'm 6' 4" and weigh 215 pounds which is good for an outside linebacker. I also have a 3.4 grade point average and scored a 23 on the ACT. I'm retaking it and hope to raise my score to a 26 or 27. I think my strengths are my athleticism and the ability to get to the football and make plays. Right now I'm training to put on weight while maintaining my speed and agility. That's my main focus right now."
Staples insists he has no favorite at this time and isn't quite sure when he'll make his final decision.
"I don't have a favorite at all at this time," Staples exclaimed. "It's still pretty early in the process and I'm still interested in everybody. Maybe after I go to some camps and take a few unofficial visits, I'll start to narrow down a list. I'd like to make a decision before the season so I can just concentrate on winning football games. I'll just wait until the time is right and I'm 100-percent sure of where I want to go."
