Stock Report: Pre-Camp

Ohio State is off to a fast star this year in recruiting. They have nabbed a number of high profile commitments at positions of need, but there are still a few holes left. In this edition of the Recruiting Stock Report we take a look at the main players left on the recruiting board.

Commitments

RB- DeVoe Torrence

WR- DeVier Posey

TE/WR- Jacob Stoneburner

OL- J.B. Shugarts

OL- Michael Brewster

OL- Mike Adams

DE- Nathan Williams

K- Ben Buchanan

With positions of need basically filled at Kicker, Offensive Line, and Running Back positions the staff has turned their full attention towards the next wave of commitments. The recruiting target list is not deep, but it is concentrated on a few select targets, that the staff will hope to round out the majority of the 2008 class.

No. 10- Michael Floyd (WR, 6-3, 200)

Stock Report-
It is apparent that Ohio State is still going after a number of other receivers on this class. They have a number of offers out to many highly ranked recruits. I think they have a shot at Floyd.

Gut Feeling-
He has not really narrowed his list down, but Ohio State should be getting an official visit.

No. 9- Cordale Scott (WR/DB, 6-4, 180)

Stock Report-
People are saying that Cordale could wind up on defense. I just think that makes him more valuable. Sign him up the best spot for him to play later.

Gut Feeling-
I will remain with my earlier prediction. Cordale is from Glenville…

No. 8- Mike Zordich (LB, 6-2, 210)

Stock Report-
Zordich has been made a priority by the staff, so he should be on this list in my opinion. He is a tough as nails player that looks great on film. Some say he is a little stiff, but who cares if looks stiff while making a play. If he looks stiff while missing it then I am worried. Zordich is a "gamer."

Gut Feeling-
I do not personally get a good vibe here. I think he could already be a done deal to PSU. This type of family tradition is hard to overcome with out the advantage of a clear depth chart. I hope I am wrong…

No. 7- Dan McCarthy (DB, 6-0, 180)

Stock Report-
I really like McCarthy's game. He is one of my favorite players in the state. I think he will be an excellent defensive back on the next level. Call me crazy, but I am not ruling out corner for him.

Gut Feeling-
Talk about a Notre Dame legacy recruit, but I am optimistic. Right now if you want to be a dominant defensive back you would head to Columbus. The track record for this staff is amazing.

No. 6- Kevin Koger (TE/DE, 6-4, 225)

Stock Report-
It is hard to project whether Koger will play offense or defense on the next level, but one thing is certain. He is one of the best athletes in the state. The two Midwestern powers made him the priority right along side some very talented players. That is good enough for me.

Gut Feeling-
It is a two horse race between Ohio State and Michigan. Gut says Michigan, but it looks better than it did three weeks ago.

No. 5- Shayne Hale (LB, 6-4, 220)

Stock Report-
Hale is one of the best LB prospects in the Nation. The only reason he is listed this low on the list is the fact I really do not know were to project him. He is a ferocious hitter from his LB spot, but he could be a LEO type of player on the next level.

Gut Feeling-
Ohio State is definitely in it. Some even say that they have the lead. I am not so sure that in the end he will be a Buckeye, but it looks like they will be a major player.

No. 4- Andrew Sweat (LB, 6-2, 233)

Stock Report-
Sweat was not even on this list the last time we did this. He has shot up the OSU recruiting charts since then. He could play a couple of different linebacker positions, making him even more valuable.

Gut Feeling-
The vibes around Sweat have been very positive for a long time. I am just waiting for the public proclamation. I will be shocked if it is for Notre Dame, but stranger things have happened.

No. 3- Josh Jenkins (OL, 6-4, 285)

Stock Report-
Jenkins is the current remaining target to complete the "Block O." The staff would love to land a player with his skills. He could quite possibly be the best interior lineman in the country, and plays with great balance.

Gut Feeling-
I am going to keep it even right now for Jenkins. I think it is probably pretty even for him between West Virginia and OSU. I am not willing to completely rule out FSU.

No. 2- Garrett Goebel (DT, 6-5, 275)

Stock Report-
The last time we did a stock report I said I would love tp see a DT make a move in to the top 10, well we have one checking in at No. 2. Goebel is a huge target in this class. OSU has a huge need at DT, and Goebel is apparently the only prospect they are legitimately working hard to land.

Gut Feeling-
Looking at the recruiting list it makes sense that Goebel would join the class. At this time it appears to me that there is no plan "B." If the staff is that confident… Well so am I.

No. 1- Terrelle Pryor (ATH, 6-6, 220)

Stock Report-
Pryor is rated as one of the top prospects in the entire country. He has nice size and is in the mold of a Vince Young type of prospect. He has the swagger that you look for to make a difference pretty early upon his arrival to any campus.

Gut Feeling-
I have to say that my feelings for him to sign with the Buckeyes are actually pretty good at this point. It is still early for a player like Pryor, but the current commit list has to be appealing to a QB of his stature.

Look for another big shake-up to the Stock Report by the time the camp season comes to an end...
