Update on St. Xavier Duo or will it be a Trio

One of the top prospects heading into the fall will be St. Xavier running back Darius Ashley. Ashley has already helped the Bombers win a state title two seasons ago and would love to add another to end his prep career. Ashley and teammate Stephon Ball have talked about heading to college together but there may be a third Bomber in the mix as well. We get the latest on this High Flying Bombers.

For Darius Ashley and Stephon Ball the summer has been one of getting ready to help the St. X Bombers prepare for a hard GCL (Greater Catholic League) title and a long run in the Ohio Division One Playoffs.  The duo is almost always found together as was the case on Thursday night when Scout.com got in contact with Ball to get the latest on his recruiting.

For Ashley the time frame to make a college choice is on his mind and one he'd like to have out of the way before the Bombers take the field this fall.

For Ball the time frame is open as he's holding four official offers and hoping his play on the field will increase his chances of picking up even more offers.

Updating his school list Darius Ashley now has the following programs as his top seven schools of interest.

"Right now my top seven schools are Louisville, Virginia, West Virginia, Boston College, Northwestern, Illinois and Wisconsin.  There are other schools but those are the top seven on my list as of now."

Stephon Ball has seen his share of takers since hitting the camp scene over the past month.  Holding offers from Cincinnati and Miami Ohio has Ball and Ashley with two programs on board for their services.  But knowing some coaches haven't had the chance to really see him Ball is hoping a breakout senior season will make up for the time missed as a junior.  With great physical size and large soft hands Ball impressed those who saw him at two senior advance camps.

"I'm really in no rush at this time as I've got a whole season ahead of me to prove what I can do.  The goal is the same as Darius and I would like to play for the same college, but we also it's possible we will be a different schools."

One thing the pair also agrees on is the future of high school classmate Greg Scruggs.  Scruggs showed up at a couple of summer camps and had coaches licking their chops at what might end up being the surprise of the summer.  Darius had the following to say about the newest member of the Bombers.

"We've been on Greg to play but he's always been a basketball player.  I know the coaches are going to look at him as a tight end first and then as a defensive end.  He's a great athlete at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds and he's only going to get better the more he plays the game."

When Scruggs spoke to Scout.com at one of his recent camps he also expressed the desire to follow Ashley and Ball to the same college program.  Greg Scruggs passes the look test and showed great physical abilities during the camp we saw him at.  If he can put it together on the field the Bombers may have a trifecta headed to a college program near you.
