The majority of players in the state of Ohio have not been offered a scholarship from Ohio State this year, but out of all of the ones who are waiting on the Buckeyes, Columbus Walnut Ridge WR Ernie Wheelwright might stand as good of a chance as any to get an offer. Ernie definitely has his eyes on the Buckeyes so far this season.
"I was at the Washington State game," Ernie said. "It was great."
"I got to meet a couple of coaches and Craig Krenzel and Mike Doss and Maurice Hall."
What other schools are on the list?
"Ohio State, West Virginia, Virginia, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Michigan are paying the most attention right now," Ernie said. "My top schools right now are Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan, and Michigan State, and probably Indiana."
Ernie was planning a visit to Bloomington, but it didn't fit in with his schedule.
"I was going over to Indiana for a visit, but homecoming is that same weekend so I won't be going," he said.
So far, Ernie has been a touchdown maker for Walnut Ridge.
"I have 7 catches and 5 TDs," he said. "I play corner too and I have 2 interceptions."
Grades are an issue with Ernie, but it something he is working hard on.
"I re-take the test in October," he said. "I have been studying. I know a passing
test score changes everything for me."
If Ernie can get those marks up, the offers could most certainly start coming in.
