It wasn't a surprise to anyone that follows recruiting, but the Ohio State Buckeyes gladly welcomed the commitment of Licking Valley star athlete Storm Klein today. Klein notified Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel of his intention to become a Buckeye during a late afternoon phone call.
"I called Coach Tressel today at the office," Klein said of his decision. "I was kind of nervous really. I called him a few times but he was in a meeting. I was kind of happy he didn't answer the first time because I was so nervous. When I did get in touch with him he was pretty excited. He talked about what was happening with the rankings and we talked about how both of our seasons are going. He welcomed me into the Buckeye family. It was awesome. Coach Tressel said it was a "great day for the Buckeyes. We spoke for about ten minutes really."
Klein has been to most of the Buckeye home games, but did not attend yesterday's game against Kent State. He has been in regular contact with Ohio State since receiving his scholarship offer. Klein was verbally offered after summer camp and received his written offer on September 1ST.
Although it was a foregone conclusion that would eventually commit to Ohio State, Klein stated he decided to make it official when he woke up this morning.
"I've been talking about it and thinking about it for a while now," Klein recalled. "We watched a lot of college football all weekend and seeing the Buckeyes get up to number one just sealed it for me. I knew I would do this on September 1ST, when I got the written offer in the mail. I've wanted to be a Buckeye since my dad first took me to a game when I was a little kid. My family is a huge Buckeye family, so I guess you could say I was born to be a Buckeye."
Klein also spoke with Buckeye defensive assistant Luke Fickell by phone today. He said Fickell was also very happy to hear the news. It is assumed that Klein will be a linebacker for the Buckeyes, but he said the Ohio State staff has not officially told him what position he will play at Ohio State.
Klein said he will be enrolling early at Ohio State. He hopes to graduate early from Licking Valley and be enrolled at Ohio State in January after his football season ends.
"I've already talked with Ohio State about enrolling early and they sent me the information on how to do it," Klein explained. "I'm looking forward to getting a degree from Ohio State and that means a lot to me. I also want to beat Michigan four times and win a national championship." Scout.com will continue to follow this story and we will have more on the commitment of Storm Klein.
