Baker gives favorites

Sam Baker is one of the top offensive linemen on the West Coast. He has already set up an official visit to Ohio State. Duane Long caught up with him for the latest.

Sam Baker, a 6-5, 285 pound lineman from Tustin, CA, is a player Buckeye fans might not have heard much about as little as a week or so ago. But news has come out about him being interested in Ohio State, and since then, we've been hearing a lot about this excellent offensive line prospect. Does Sam have a leader?

"My top 3 are USC, Ohio State and Florida," he said. "I have no leader. All 3 are equal now."

Sam says the Buckeyes are hot on his trail. "I will visit Ohio State Dec. 6-8," he said. "Ohio State is paying alot of attention to me right now... I like the power running tradition at Ohio State and the business school."

What about coming all the way to Ohio from California?

"It is not too far away from home," he said.

It turns out Sam is excellent on both sides of the ball and likes defense better.

"I play guard and defensive tackle," he said. "I prefer defense, but everybody is recruiting me for offense.  Ohio State is recruiting me as a guard."

Early playing time does not sound like it will be a big factor.

"I would like to play early if possible, but it really doesn't matter," he said.
