The Buckeyes played in the BCS National Championship Game for the second time in as many seasons. Unfortunately for OSU, the results were similar.
Just like in the 2007 title game, the Buckeyes scored first. Chris "Beanie" Wells broke through the LSU line and avoided a diving Craig Steltz (16) for a long touchdown run to put OSU ahead 7-0. The Buckeyes would lead 10-0 in the first quarter.
LSU eventually tied the game and scored 21 second-quarter points to take command. Here, Brian Robiskie has a potential touchdown reception in his hands. Unfortunately, he was unable to hold on.
LSU quarterback Matt Flynn (15) threw four touchdown passes, and here gets off a throw before being hit by Ohio State senior linebacker Larry Grant (6).
Quarterback Todd Boeckman felt a lot of pressure from LSU's defensive line throughout the game. Boeckman completed 15-of-26 passes for 208 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Malcolm Jenkins intercepted a Flynn pass in the second half, but the Buckeyes never sustained a rally.
It might have been the final game as a Buckeye for James Laurinaitis (33) and Vernon Gholston (50).
Once again, Jim Tressel had to congratulate an opposing head coach at the end of a national championship game.
