Gainesville,Georgia's Keith Wells' recruitment has turned into a three team race between Ohio State, Tennessee and Notre Dame. Wells was visited by coaches from all three schools in the past 24 hors, with Ohio State meeting with Wells at the high school today.
"Things are going good, but it's starting to get tiring," Wells stated this evening. "Coach [Jim] Heacock and Coach [Luke] Fickell were at my school today. They came and watched me work out and they stayed for track practice. It went real well with them. They said they came down just to show me they're still very interested in me. They told if I took until signing day to decide, they would hold a scholarship for me. I'm pretty comfortable around those guys."
Yesterday, Wells entertained Tennessee head coach Phil Fullmer and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis. The Tennessee staff was at Wells' high school early in the morning and met with him at his home, while Weis' in-home visit lasted until 10:30 Wednesday night. Wells spoke about both the Tennessee and Notre Dame visits.
"Coach Fullmer was in the school most of the day, and was at my house from 5:30 until around 7:00," he stated. "Coach Weis was at my house from 7:30 until 10:30 that evening. It was a long day, but I enjoyed the time with both men. My mother was at work and couldn't meet with Coach Fullmer, but she was home to see Coach Weis. Right now I'm leaning towards Ohio State and Tennessee, with Notre Dame not very far behind. I'm visiting Notre Dame this weekend. I've seen both Tennessee and Ohio State already. I know both coaching staffs real well at Ohio State and Tennessee, but I'm just getting to know the Notre Dame staff.I will use the Notre Dame official visit to see if they can catch up."
When asked to compare each of the three head coaches, Wells paused and thought long and hard, before answering.
"Wow, that's a good question," he said with a laugh. "Coach Tressel calls me every week, so he let's me know he wants me really bad. I know Jim Tressel wants me the most of the three coaches. Coach Tressel and I have a great personal relationship and he's recruiting me hard. Real hard.'
"Coach Weis and I just met for the first time last night. We had talked on the phone a few times before that. The way he's recruiting me is a little different. He says he's not like a used car salesman. He's not telling me a million reasons why I should go to Notre Dame. He told me I need to see Notre Dame and just decide for myself. He seems like a very honest man.'
"Coach Fullmer has been on me like crazy the last couple of weeks. He's been putting the pressure on, and putting the pressure on. He seems like a very straight forward man, and I like him a lot."
Wells intends to make his decision public Monday afternoon. Scout.com will bring you the news of Keith Wells' decision as soon as it's made.
