Signing Day Impact: Willie Mobley

Willie Mobley is a Buckeye. The Eden Prairie [Minn.] star faxed his letter of intent to Ohio State, officially becoming a member of the Buckeye family. Bill Greene has more on the signing of Willie Mobley.

Willie Mobley, a 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive lineman from Eden Prairie, Minnesota selected Ohio State over UCLA, Minnesota and Tennessee. Mobley earned All-State honors after leading his team to an undefeated season and another state title.

Defensive linemen were a top priority in the 2008 Ohio State recruiting class, and Willie Mobley was a highly desired individual. He comes to Ohio State along with fellow freshmen Garrett Goebel and Shawntell Rowell, as candidates to back up the returning inside players Dexter Larimore, Doug Worthington, Nadar Abdallah and Todd Denlinger. He is a candidate to red-shirt in 2008, but could see time at defensive end.

Like Peterson, Mobley has the ability to play either defensive end or defensive tackle for the Buckeyes. Mobley is athletic enough, that he scored a touchdown on a reverse in the state title game for Eden Prairie. Peterson played both positions at Ohio State and has done the same in the NFL. Peterson is now in his fifth NFL season.

Mobley on His Future:

"I'm not sure what position I will start out at," Mobley said. "Coach [Jim] Heacock said he's looking for some rush defensive ends to put pressure on the quarterback. I could go in and play defensive end right off the bat. I will need to learn the position and develop the technique that goes with playing outside. I've played mostly inside in my career so far."

There were rumors that Mobley might not be 100% sure with his decision to commit to Ohio State, but he denied there was any truth to those rumors.

"I chose Ohio State because of the experience to be a Buckeye, and because of the people I will be playing with," Mobley stressed. "I know they put a lot of players in the NFL, but the academic atmosphere at Ohio State was just as important to me. I know that being able to learn from these great coaches, and especially Jim Tressel, will be to my benefit."
