Jermil Martin is a Buckeye. Martin, a fullback from Cleveland Glenville, has faxed his letter of intent to Ohio State and has joined the Buckeye family. Bill Greene has the latest on the signing of Jermil Martin.

Jermil Martin, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound fullback from Cleveland Glenville selected Ohio State over Iowa. As a senior, Martin starred on both sides of the ball. He was a productive player at Glenville throughout his career.

Adding a running back was a priority for the Buckeyes in 2008. Although things didn't work out for DeVoe Torrence, the Buckeyes gladly accepted Martin as a combination tailback-fullback in the 2008 class. Martin will battle Aram Olson for the opportunity to play fullback in 2008.

Pro Comparison: Lawrence Vickers, Cleveland Browns

Like Vickers, Martin will probably be a player who does the dirty work at Ohio State. Martin will be called upon as a lead blocker, and will probably seldom touch the football. When the rare opportunity to handle the football arises, Martin needs to make the most of it. Vickers had 15 carries and caught 13 passes in 2007, but was needed to pave the way for tailback Jamal Lewis.

Martin on His Future:

"Ohio State is the school I wanted to go to all along," Martin said. "I spent time at the Woody Hayes Complex and it was beautiful. That caught my attention at Ohio State. I love the academic opportunities at Ohio State."

When asked what position he would be playing at Ohio State, Martin said he could see time at fullback and tailback.

"They told me I will be playing fullback and tailback," Martin said. "I'm not sure which one I will start out at when I get there. My position isn't that important to me."
