Painesville Harvey junior Chris Fields attended the Ohio State-Indiana basketball game as a guest of the Buckeye football staff. Fields, who holds offers from Illinois and Akron, had a great time on visit to Columbus.
"Things went really well," Fields began. "We toured the Woody Hayes facility and that was really nice. I was with coach [Darrell] Hazell and with Jim Tressel. We were able to talk as we went on the tour. Then we headed over and watched the basketball game. It was a great day overall."
Fields, who makes no secret of his admiration for Ohio State, said the time spent in Columbus was well worth it because of the relationships he's building with the Ohio State staff.
"Coach Hazell is a good guy and we get along really well," he said. "He keeps telling me to be patient, that it's still really early in the process. He said Ohio State is taking their time with the specialists, like receivers and quarterbacks. That's fine with me.'
"Coach [Jim] Tressel and I didn't really talk too much football. We just talked about other things, and we joked around a lot. He's a great man and I like him a lot."
Fields is beginning to get a feel for how his recruitment will go over the next year. He admitted he's excited about what is in store for him.
"This visit was good because I know how important I am to them," Fields stated. "That's a good thing to me. It's good for me to get a better relationship with the coaches at Ohio State. They know I like Ohio State a lot, but I am looking at other schools, too. Everything sounds good to me about Ohio State. I'm mostly interested in Big-10 schools and the SEC schools. I'm not going to rule out any schools yet. Like the Ohio State coaches say, I need to get the ACT taken and keep my grades up. I know that."
Fields should have the opportunity to take many more college visits in the next year. Scout.com will continue to monitor this young speedster.
