Fragel Receives OSU Offer

It appears Ohio State has its sights set on a certain tight end. A few days after returning home from an unofficial visit to Ohio State, Reid Fragel received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes. Bill Greene has more.

Reid Fragel from Gross Pointe (Mich.) South High has been offered a scholarship by the Ohio State Buckeyes. Fragel, who was also offered by Michigan State Tuesday, was notified of the offer during a phone conversation with Ohio State assistant coach John Peterson.

"Ohio State told my coach to have me call coach [John] Peterson tonight," Fragel said Wednesday night. "I got ahold of coach Peterson tonight and he said they were offering me a scholarship. Michigan State also offered me yesterday, so things are going really well in recruiting. I told coach Peterson that I have a lot of things to think about and I want to take my time in this. I plan to call coach Peterson once or twice a week just to keep in touch."

Fragel, 6-foot-8 and 255-pounds, is being offered as a tight end by Ohio State. He also holds offers from Cincinnati and Miami of Ohio.

"I like Michigan State and Ohio State obviously," Fragel admitted. "I'm also interested in Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia and some of the other Big-10 schools. I'm pretty wide open at this point and I'm taking it all in. It's pretty overwhelming really to get these two offers in the past couple days. I want to commit before my season starts. I will commit when I know for sure where I want to go. It could be in a month, or it could be tomorrow if I feel it's right. I want to be 100% certain when I commit. I will never de-commit from a school, so I need to take my time and get it right."

Fragel visited Ohio State unofficially for the spring game this past weekend.

"I had a great time in Columbus this weekend," he stated. "I was there this past winter but didn't get to see much. It was a lot different this time with the temperatures in the 70's. It was nice seeing all the activity on campus. We went to dinner at Eddie George's restaurant and got to see the Columbus night life a little bit. Going to the stadium for the first time was great. The fans were great and it was a good time."

Fragel has a good idea of what he's looking for in a college.

"I'm looking for a school that's strong academically," he stated. "That's the first thing I'm looking for. I also want to play for a big-time program and a school that has a winning tradition. I'm also interested in great facilities and in a winning environment. I'm pretty much stunned by these two offers the past two days. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks and see if any more offers come in."
