Berry Planning Second Buckeye Visit

Miami Palmetto star back Jaamal Berry continues to be one of the hottest prospects in Florida. Berry holds offers from most of the top programs in America and is planning a very busy summer visit schedule. Bill Greene has the latest on Berry.

Miami Palmetto star tailback Jaamal Berry has put together an offer list that is as impressive as any in the country. Berry holds offers from the likes of Florida, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and numerous other schools. After a short vacation, where he thought very little about recruiting, Berry is now concentrating on setting up several unofficial visits this summer.

"I was in Jamaica for over a week visiting my father," Berry explained. "I never had my phone on at all and I didn't really think too much about recruiting. Nothing has changed too much for me at all. I'm still looking at a lot of schools, but Ohio State and Florida are still my top two."

Berry is getting back into the swing of things as far as recruiting goes.

"I've talked with a few coaches this weekend already," he stated. "I talked with coach [Paul] Haynes of Ohio State the other day. He wanted to know how I was doing and he wanted me to know they are still very interested in me. I'm planning on talking to all the coaches of the schools I'm interested in. It's kind of hard to separate these schools right now. I'm planning on taking a few unofficial visits in the next month or so."

Berry is leaving soon on a tour of several Southern schools with a group of Florida recruits.

"On July 16th I'll be going on a little tour with my mentor, Brett Goetz," Berry said. "There will be a few of us going that are being heavily recruited. We will be going to Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, LSU, Auburn and South Carolina. That wraps up on the 20th and I'm heading up north after that. I'll be going to Ohio State on the 21st. While I'm up there I also would like to see Michigan, Pitt and West Virginia.

"I was at Ohio State for their spring game and I loved everything about it. I want my mom to see Ohio State and meet the coaches. I'm interested in Michigan because of their tradition and the way they can run the football. I'm anxious to meet their new coaching staff."

Berry is having a hard time narrowing his list, but did mention some of the schools he's most interested in.

"My list would be Florida and Ohio State at the top right now," Berry stressed. "After that, I like Michigan, LSU, Mississippi, Florida State and Georgia. This fall I'll be going to Florida for the Miami game. I'm planning on going to USC for the Ohio State game and I will go to Ohio State for the Michigan game. I'm planning on going to Mississippi when they play Auburn. I also want to go to LSU when they play Georgia. That should give me a pretty good idea of what these schools have to offer."

Berry doesn't have a set timetable for making a decision. He's trying to remain flexible and wait until he is totally sure of his choice.

"At times I think about maybe committing this summer, but I want to see a lot of these schools, and that will take some time," he explained. "I want to see all the schools I'm interested in, but if I know where I want to go for sure, then I might make my decision this summer. I don't want to get locked in on a certain time. When I know in my heart where I want to go, then I will tell that school and be done with it."

Berry, who rushed for 1,033 yards and scored 14 touchdowns as a junior, will participate in the Under Armour All-American game in January.
