Chat Transcript - Jerry Rudzinski

Here is the chat transcript from the club chat with Jerry Rudzinski on 11/19.

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 4:55:38 PM)
Is everyone ready for two in a row?

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:05:07 PM)
Hello all!

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:05:29 PM)

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:05:37 PM)

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:05:42 PM)

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:05:54 PM)

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:06:25 PM)
It's 5:03

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:07:00 PM)
and michigan still sucks!

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:07:16 PM)
amen. Lloyd sounds a little worried about the crowd

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:07:41 PM)
sounds like he's just wanting an excuse

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:07:13 PM)
Jerry, I remember so well how your 98 team dominated UM. What happened that day: was it the case of a great team that was really focused, or something else?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:08:18 PM)
it was a team that wanted to get in a fistfight with those guys up north. We had the mindset that we may make mental mistakes, fumbles, blown assignments, etc., but we would be more physical. period. the crowd didn't hurt either. that place was intense

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:07:48 PM)
jerry,whats lloyds problem

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:09:04 PM)
I actually have to give Lloyd Carr credit. He is not necessarily likeable, but I don't like playing against him

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:09:01 PM)
are the goalposts safe after a win on Saturday?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:09:59 PM)
I predict the goalposts stay up. I will bet anyone on that. The field will be rushed, but the cops and mace will keep people away from the goalposts. AG doesn't like anyone fooling with those

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:10:29 PM)
they are cemented 30 feet into the ground, I wouldn't mess with the posts

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:09:07 PM)
Is this the first time Michigan has played in the new shoe?

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:09:42 PM)
What do you guys make of the comments by the scUM players? They were all playing it down. I've never really seen that before. Are they not confident?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:10:57 PM)
I think the crowd has gotten these guys attention. they have heard from there vets that it gets so loud you can't even think. And in 00, it wasn't even for the national title

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:10:39 PM)
I think they are really trying to give no locker room material this game

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:10:40 PM)
Jerry, Do you think there needs to be some changes in the O-Line?

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:11:45 PM)
yeah, for the life of me i can't figure out our O-line, are we just not athletic?

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:12:13 PM)
Maybe I'm just concentrating on the wrong plays.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:12:22 PM)
I think its more the backs than the line

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:12:28 PM)
the o-line needs something. I liked the move with Mangold just to shake guys up. Nothing gets your attention like getting yanked out of a game. I would start our same guys. The freshman could get big-eyed in this one. Maybe sprinkle them in later, but you gotta start with the same guys

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:11:29 PM)
Ok, let's get the Mo Clarett question out of the way: will he play, and if so, how well? JT was kind of ambiguous on this again today.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:12:51 PM)
I say MC plays. I didn't see practice today, but I say he plays.

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:13:36 PM)
agree there this is the one game you play your whole career for

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:13:22 PM)
There have been a couple of posts with the following assignments LT-Simms, G-Steponavich, C-Mangold, G-Clarke, RT-Douglas. This looks good to me

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:13:23 PM)
I saw on the Ozone that Tressel said Mangold and Sims would see time, he stopped short of saying they would start. What is your take on those two Rudzinski?

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:13:23 PM)
jerry, what is different about this o-line from great lines of the past?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:14:13 PM)
i think the o-line has some athleticism, but the off-season injuries did not help the off-season conditioning work...if you know what I mean. but to there defense, Shane Olivea can't work out with a broken leg. I think the movement and pad levels will only get better as they get healthier

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:15:36 PM)
this o-line was less active in the off-season. believe it or not, i think the o-line is heading in the right direction. those guys come back and I LOVE the young guys we brought in. LOVE THEM

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:13:42 PM)
I think it has a lot to do with the back. Mo C hit the hole hard and was through it quickly. The other two kinda dance and make the line hold their blocks longer

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:14:30 PM)
Hall looks a lot better than Ross right now, Ross must be hurt; he isn't looking good at all

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:15:19 PM)
To be honest, Ross has not had the year I thought he would

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:15:53 PM)
I agree that Hall has looked better than Ross, he seems to hit the holes quicker. Is the reason he is not seeing more playing time is because of pass blocking?

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:15:53 PM)
good to hear.

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:15:54 PM)
Ross is like the little scat backs that other teams use. They get stopped over and over again but they get a lot of yardage on breakout runs.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:06 PM)
I too though Ross would have more stats. I think he ran hard until he got banged up vs. Ill

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:13 PM)
Ross never seems confident in which hole he'll take. Too slow to get into a run and then he moves away from the initial hole, which normally ends up big

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:30 PM)
This Marlin Jackson from scUM. Is he as good as some say, or is he just an average corner. Everytime I see him, he is trying to chase someone down from behind.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:41 PM)
I think the lack of a tru FB is a big reason for poor running lately as well

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:45 PM)
Hall makes me think of Quentin Griffin. He could be elusive like Quentin

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:16:59 PM)
Hall is so light running through the hole. In my mind, Spencer wanted someone to ram it up there harder. Hall answered any doubters vs. Illinois.

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:17:17 PM)
Jackson likes to gamble and it does payoff but it also gives up the pbig plays too. pick your poison with him!

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:17:42 PM)
Jackson is for real. He will definitely be one of the best we have faced all year.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:19:16 PM)
I look for Jackson to take the field side rather than the boundary regardless of who we put out there. he is the best they got on the island, and the field is the biggest island

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:17:38 PM)
The big question Jerry what is your prediction for Sat?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:18:23 PM)
I like 20-17 OSU. I think each defense scores (or sets one up) and each offense scores, but Nugent gets two fg's and their kicker gets just 1

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:18:08 PM)
Will they just try and match up Jackson on Jenkins all day? Jenkins still has the height advantage.

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:19:05 PM)
Anyone think Tressel has something special in the works?

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:19:43 PM)
on the offensive side that is.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:19:57 PM)
most of Jenkins big ones have come from the Boundary side

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:20:24 PM)
That being said, I don't think Jackson goes wherever Jenkins goes

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:20:38 PM)
I hope not :)

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:20:56 PM)
Jenkins' height is a big advantage

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:00 PM)
I hope we see Jenkins for more than two more games

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:14 PM)
bite your tongue Jerry

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:00 PM)
What are UM's biggest weaknesses this year?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:31 PM)
I think kicking game.

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:30 PM)
Do you feel Michigan's D-line is the best we have seen to date?

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:46 PM)
No, the Penn State line was better

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:52 PM)

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:21:57 PM)

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:22:58 PM)
I still like PSU's. The one thing though looking back at my years against Michigan that really stood out with them is the d-line. they could control things with their d-line. It made the LB's look good, it made Woodson look good, It made the offense look good with with field position. When I think Michigan, I think d-line

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:22:29 PM)
its the small quick D's that give us trouble without MC, not UM's

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:22:35 PM)
How much will we blitz Navarre

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:23:29 PM)
I think with the way our D has been hitting other teams QBs, Navarre may not be in there too long!

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:23:59 PM)
we will get after Navarre, but we will also be run blitzing a lot.

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:22:45 PM)
I'm interested in what type of play calling we'll have. Will it be as conservative as our away games, or will it be like the rest of the Shoe games?

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:23:49 PM)
I think field position will dictate our offensive calls. Hopefully the defense and kicking game will set up the offense.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:24:54 PM)
I think Tressel calls the game like last year. He will let the defense and Groom control the game. Just like last year, he just wants Krenzel to take little chunks.

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:24:14 PM)
With regards to all the other teams we have played, what area of the game does scUM bring that is better than any we have seen thus far.

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:24:26 PM)
Remembering back to the Iowa/Michigan game, the Michigan O-line looked horrible and unless they have improved greatly, they will have serious trouble with our D-line. I think this could be a difference in the game.

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:24:54 PM)
Rud, what about covering Joppru? He is a quality TE. How do the LB's accomplish this?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:26:36 PM)
Joppru scares me with his route running. just compete. they work on it every day in practice, but he runs well. just like they teach you in pee-wees, don't go for the head fakes. our guys can run with him, just don't let him use his body to get open

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:25:00 PM)
nothing singularly NCBuckeye, its just the whole rivalry thing

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:25:08 PM)
I think we have played better teams in every aspect. But all that goes out the window when your talking rivalry

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:25:30 PM)
good point.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:25:26 PM)
Jerry, looking back, how sophisticated is Illinois' offensive scheme, compared to the rest of college ball?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:28:08 PM)
Illinois is nice on offense. It reminds me of what you see on Sundays. They slip those backs out real nice. They sell the faking. It didn't hurt though having young going up for balls.

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:27:08 PM)
Will tOSU get any respect for beating Michigan if they barely beat them? or will the media say SCum was just over rated like every other team we played?

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:28:10 PM)
Jerry, After we beat Michigan do you think the media will finally give OSU the respect it deserves or will there still be all the neysayers out there saying how overrated OSU is? Personally I'm getting sick of all the bashing via the media!!!!

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:28:19 PM)
We won't get any respect until we beat miami

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:28:21 PM)
the will all start giving a bit more respect, just in case we win out. They dont want to look like idiots and they want people to watch the game so they will hype it

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:28:28 PM)
I think we finally get the respect if we beat them.

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:07 PM)
Come on Jerry what is this if stuff?

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:32 PM)
when we win sat everyone will love us for a day

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:46 PM)
if we win games 45-41, we wouldn't get bashed. we would have great character. but we win 10-6, and get the heck beat out of us by the media. those guys just don't like watching defensive football. only potent offenses are good teams in there minds

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:30:36 PM)
good point, I mean WHEN we beat Michigan

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:00 PM)
How healthy is Darrion Scott? Any guesses?

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:11 PM)
JT said he'd play

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:29:47 PM)
Does anyone else think that if we beat Michigan, we won't be playing Miami? I can see them easily losing one of their last few games.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:30:03 PM)
Tim Anderson was a force against Illinois -- all day long. He's back to his pre-injury self, I think.

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:30:10 PM)
Jerry, what area of the game scares you the most with regards to matchups.

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:30:20 PM)
I watched Wisconsin vs Michigan last weekend and noticed that Michigan uses Askew as the RB release valve in the flat. What about getting up and defending the fullback screen? Is there anything different schemewise between a FB or RB in the pattern?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:33:05 PM)
No real difference in the fullback and tailback releasing into the flat. Most teams don't interchange them that much though. The film should give all those keys away

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:30:30 PM)
Is Darrion Scott cleared to play this Sat?

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:31:24 PM)
buckeyemurph: yes

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:32:07 PM)
We need Darrion Scott. He has been our best pass rusher. He is an NFL-type player playing in college. He will definitely play, but let's just hope he doesn't re-aggravate it.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:32:18 PM)
The only matchup I see a UM advantage is TE, imho

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:32:19 PM)
Do you see us getting commitments from Whitner, Youboty this weekend?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:37:19 PM)
I don't think we will get the commitments. To be honest, those coaches after a victory like this will be so excited that even recruiting can wait. I am not saying those guys will get blown off or anything, but you better believe Tressel and Dantonio and Snyder, etc. will be going as crazy as anyone about this year's team, not the 2006 team. Coaches know this is a once in a lifetime thing. The full court press won't happen until December. And also, it is not Tressel's style to get guys before they are ready. He truly only wants them if this is where they want to be

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:33:19 PM)
we all know they will be keying on Mo C as soon as he gets in the game, think Tress will air it out the first few plays with Clarett in the game?

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:33:57 PM)
CK fakes the pitch to MoC and throws deep.......

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:34:04 PM)
Piggyback to Buckeyemurph's question: And/or any other commitments?

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:32:17 PM)
Jerry, how disruptive is the noise? Man, in 1998 it was unbelievable. How much does that affect an opposing offense?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:34:18 PM)
I am not kidding when I say that the 98 crowd was the most disrupting thing I have ever heard. Those players couldn't concentrate with that noise. it was almost funny. It was almost damaging to the ears. It was a huge part of our victory

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:34:46 PM)
wow, that's great to hear (no pun intended)

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:03 PM)

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:14 PM)
well what will this crowd be like then the field was not lowered then

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:30 PM)

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:32 PM)
I gotta think this sat will be MUCH louder, goes without saying

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:39 PM)
also, what, 10k more people?

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:40 PM)
The noise really seemed to get to Tom Brady. He seemed like a blubbering fool by game's end.

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:43 PM)
Jerry, how do you feel about our CB's on Bellamy and Edwards? I know Fox got abused last weekend, do you see them picking on him?

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:52 PM)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I can hardly concentrate at work this week can't wait for kickoff!

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:35:59 PM)

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:04 PM)

ToledoBill (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:06 PM)
Do you think Dustin Fox will be a little gun shy this week and not play up on the receivers and what is the status of his injury.

HangOnSloopy (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:31 PM)
Bellamy & Edwards are NOT Young & Lloyd

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:37 PM)
DF has a short memory. He'll be fine.

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:46 PM)
fox will not let it bother him

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:39:31 PM)
As far as Fox, he will be okay. Something like that gets in your mental, but those guys forget about it. The coaches make sure of that. Besides, that stuff just happens. I remember Plaxico playing Plummer and Winfield and having success. It literally happens to everyone.

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:51 PM)
Jerry, Just got on line. What are the "keys" to a Buckeye victory on Saturday?

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:36:53 PM)
JN wont have time for the double moves to work

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:37:12 PM)
they can't catch a pass that doesn't leave the QB

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:38:18 PM)
Haven't heard anything on Will Smith's health status. Any guesses?

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:38:38 PM)
Heard he was fine

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:38:45 PM)
I sure do have some great memories of being at Papa Joe's before the scUM game.

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:39:26 PM)
I noticed something this past Sunday on the Buckeye review that typifies Coach T. The guy that sits in with Coach Tressel said that on the one 11 yard run Krenzel saved HIS season and Coach T corrected him and said OUR season the guy is amazing.

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:39:47 PM)
Jerry: Go out on a limb and give us your prediction of the halftime score and the final score. Thanks.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:40:14 PM)
14-7 OSU at half. 20-17 OSU at the final gun

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:40:27 PM)
Jerry, what's the captain's breakfast like? Is it Saturday? If so, must be early. Is the entire current team, there?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:41:17 PM)
The captain's breakfast is on homecoming weekend. Michigan has enough hype, that is the last thing the team needs. Yes, the entire team attended the past two years.

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:40:46 PM)
What about seeing Tyree at FB? What is that all about?

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:41:08 PM)
Schnitt and Joe aren't getting it done

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:42:13 PM)
I don't understand the Tyree thing quite yet. I think it is goal line thing. Don't plan on seeing him between the twenties (unless a 3rd/4th and1)

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:41:50 PM)
what does the team do the night before the game.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:10 PM)
We always watched a movie, but Tressel mixes it up. Now that they are right on campus at the Blackwell, they usually go into a big theatre room and watch movies

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:42:02 PM)
Jerry, What do you think of Gameday being presented inside the SHOE! I think it will be very neat.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:42:19 PM)
Jerry, are they going to do the Tunnel of Pride(?) like in '98?

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:10 PM)
I believe Gameday will be across the street again

bucsrock (Nov 19, 2002 5:44:30 PM)
Herbie said yesterday inside I thought

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:48 PM)
i heard game day will be in the same spot as wsu. it would be cool inside, but i don't think that will happen.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:10 PM)
I think that's what it was called, all the captains lined up

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:31 PM)
and they are going to do the tunnel of pride again

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:45:37 PM)
The tunnel of pride is back. All former players have been notified. It is cool as a player to have that. All those guys busted their butts for the program to build something. It is nice to know they have your back that game. But nothing beats seeing your parents on Senior Day. The parents are the ones that hear you complain during sunrise services and three-a-days. It means a lot to have them there on senior day.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:34 PM)
For UM, is it a relief for players to finally get on the field and play the game?

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:43:42 PM)
Does anyone see us throwing towards Hartsock more this game? I remember last year Darnell Sanders had some big catches for us.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:46:32 PM)
I look for Hartsock 4 or 5 times on Saturday. He better get his sleep.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:46:14 PM)
Jerry, is there anyone who's really playing well but not getting much credit/attention for it?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:48:11 PM)
I think people are too hard on Nickey. I think Reynolds is playing well. It just seems like everyone gets credit when they are 12-0. Life is good in terms of players getting their respect

george (Nov 19, 2002 5:46:24 PM)
Where do you think Wilhelm rates among great OSU LBs?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:49:30 PM)
Wilhelm is special. With the long list of OSU All-American linebackers, I am not going to say he is on top, but he has done nothing but make great things happen, especially when it counts. I would love to see another big hit like last year for him

buckeyemurph (Nov 19, 2002 5:47:02 PM)
Do you think Gamble will be isolated on Braylon Edwards the entire game?

ToledoBill (Nov 19, 2002 5:48:04 PM)
Jerry, I think for this particular team that it is a once in a lifetime moment, but coach Tressel has this kind of "moment" in mind for many years to come. I think we are going to go long and over the middle before we go to Ben.

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:48:24 PM)
Assuming Scott is back, with David Thompson having such a huge game, who steps up at the DT spot? We have three good one's there. Do you see any of the three really standing out Saturday? It would be cool if they started Peterson and Thompson. I love Anderson, but the two seniors should start.

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:49:42 PM)
Jerry: Speaking of Gamble, how many plays do you think he can/will "go" on Saturday (100+?)

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:50:02 PM)
He's got 6 weeks to recover :)

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:51:23 PM)
gamble will play every play down on defense and probably 3/4ths of them on offense. he may take a punt back. the message is clear for this game. the great players have to play lights out. Gamble is a great player and we need him to make something happen saturday

ncbuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:50:06 PM)
jerry, are you able to see any difference in attitude/composure in this team vs. teams that you were on with Coop. I'm just curious as to how differently JT has the guys stoked vs. JC.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:53:45 PM)
I don't think the guys are any more or less stoked. The reason I say that is we couldn't have been any more stoked. We had it maxed out. I was only 2-3 against Michigan, but it wasn't because we lacked energy and passion. We could have anyone coach this game and have the guys pumped. What is important is what goes on the other 364 days to get ready. Beating a team like Michigan is a work in progress. It doesn't just come with high emotion on game day

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:50:38 PM)
Let's remember to give it up big-time for Richard McNutt when he's introduced with the seniors. He gave all he had to OSU.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 5:52:46 PM)
So, when do players get the gold pants after a win -- does it come at the end-of-year team awards dinner?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:54:34 PM)
We got our gold pants during the winter. It takes some time because they are all personalized

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:53:40 PM)
Does JT start 5 juniors on the O-line or do we see one or two frosh in the lineup?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:54:53 PM)
JT starts the vets. the freshman won't start this one.

ToledoBill (Nov 19, 2002 5:55:31 PM)
Jerry, what has happened to Drew Carter? I thought he was doing a good job and deserved some more playing time. He seems to have just dropped of the map.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:56:44 PM)
I wish we could get Drew more touches. He is victim of the numbers. Gamble has to play. Jenkins has to play. Vance has to play. There just isn't room. It is not that he did anything bad, it is just the others are so good.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:58:19 PM)
I hate to say some boring keys to the game, but it is true. Turnovers and red zone are the big keys. The tackling will be solid. the kick protections will be solid. It is who coughs it up and who settles for 3 instead of 6

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:58:34 PM)
or who can make their 3

Seabus (Nov 19, 2002 5:58:56 PM)
yeah, you gotta like our advantage in the kicking game.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 5:59:14 PM)
big time

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:59:36 PM)
good point on the 3.

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 5:57:53 PM)
After two clutch plays with long passes, do you think we'll see Krenzel bomb a few more to Jenkins and/or Gamble?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 5:59:26 PM)
I think so. I think the Purdue game made a big impression for the coaches. Let Jenkins go get those deep ones. You have to do it. Purdue bottled us up, and we just need to go over the top. It will fail more than it works, but those times it works it is points.

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 5:59:54 PM)
I'd sure like to see Doss make this his "signature game"!

ToledoBill (Nov 19, 2002 5:59:58 PM)
How much of our offense will be new for that "team up north"

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 6:02:00 PM)
Probably about two new plays. Sometimes, it's just new sets and new personnel groups running the plays. You would be surprised how shocked a defense is to see a basic counter out of certain personnel group when they haven't seen it all year. The play isn't new, but the people running it are new. For example, all counters have been in regular personnel (2 backs, 1 tight end). All the sudden they run it out of 1 back and 2 tight ends. The film room never showed that. those things can mess a defense up.

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 6:02:43 PM)
It doesn't have to be a counter, that is just an example . It could be a post route or an iso or a draw play, etc.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Nov 19, 2002 6:02:26 PM)
Jerry, why the refusal to run wide on offense? Is it our o-line?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 6:05:47 PM)
Running comes down to a hat on a hat. We need to get bodies on their bodies. Bollman and JT see the best opportunity to do this with keeping it in inside the tackles in most circumstances. On top of that, our big boys up front probably move forward better than they move in reach block situations going out to the perimeter. We like to think Mo Hall or Lydell can outrun people and just turn the corner, but unblocked defenders will flat out embarrass us with let them do that. There is a place to run outside, but you need to make sure you get a hat on a hat

Rob (Nov 19, 2002 6:03:04 PM)
If you're Lloyd Carr, what OSU "weakness" do you try to exploit?

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 6:05:01 PM)
Jerry, do you think that it is better to have a weakened/injured Clarret or a 100% Ross/Hall combo?

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 6:06:27 PM)
I will definitely take Ross, Hall at 100%. no doubt.

JaxBuck (Nov 19, 2002 6:05:06 PM)
Make safeties cover, contain CK's scrambling, stuff run

rudzinski (Nov 19, 2002 6:07:19 PM)
Fellas, let's beat the you know what out of these guys. I have to run. Thank you so much for your time. BEAT MICHIGAN

ZwickFan2k2 (Nov 19, 2002 6:07:29 PM)
Thnx Jerry
