Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 3:37:01 PM)
Hello Duane

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:37:11 PM)
Hey, Kirk.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 3:38:01 PM)
Duane, are we still looking at about 20 ships?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:38:12 PM)
I think we are looking at 20.

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 3:38:35 PM)
Duane, what's your thoughts on the two QBs in the Kentucky game the other night?

OTC (Dec 13, 2002 3:39:04 PM)
For me Brohm was the best qb I have ever seen on the high school level

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:40:05 PM)
I thought Bush looked like a quarterback. He has a really good arm but his accuaracy was what really impressed me. The Brohm kid is special. He should be # 1 in the country next year.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:38:45 PM)
duane can you give me a guess on who the buck's want on their offensive line from 1 to 6 [ie] who would be offered if someone ahead on them commits

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:41:33 PM)
I think they want Bain # 1 and wanted Wimbs almost as much. That is in flux right now after this week. I think outside of Holler all bets are off. It is time to regroup.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 3:41:42 PM)
Duane,Does Crummey get offered?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:42:44 PM)
I don't see Crummey with an offer. Right now I am looking at my offensive line board and I can't come up with a matrix. Those 2 out of the mix really throws it out of whack.

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 3:42:39 PM)
Regarding OL recruiting, a new name surfaced today named James Lee... he's from Belle Glade, FL. I think he was about 6-4, 270, 4.9, had some good offers and could be visiting this weekend

mike68 (Dec 13, 2002 3:42:49 PM)
Any thoughts on who else may transfer and thus create more ships for '03

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:44:24 PM)
There is so much speculation on who will leave. I have nothing to back this up. No rumors let alone facts but my gut says Ross is out of here. He didn't like being # 2 and now he is # 3. I think Chattams has worn out his welcome.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:44:32 PM)
if walt harris should leave pitt will the bucks re recruit mike mcglynn?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:45:45 PM)
I think I would get back in the McGlynn derby. Healthy is probably the best in Ohio. I say probably because we have seen him for all of about 4 games in the past 2 years. That may be too much rust.

mike68 (Dec 13, 2002 3:45:50 PM)
Why do you think that Tressel is adverse to signing JUCO OL. They would be a quick fix and gone in 2-3 years so if they didn't pan out, the ships would open back up quicker

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:47:13 PM)
I think he may have to look at the JUCO ranks. All these recent verbals have thrown the offfensive line recruiting into a mess. I think hall and maybe Mazan were fallback players. Both are gone. Wimbs and Bain were keys. They are now gone.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:48:34 PM)
The reason he doesn't want to go that route is you often get academic question marks and I don't think you can build a program with JUCOs.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:47:20 PM)
where do you think thornton fits in at o line if he wants to commit is he going to be offered this weekend?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:48:49 PM)
I have not seen Thornton but I suspect he is a tackle. I have to think he gets offered. It makes no sense to offer an official visit to a player that has not or will not be offered.

Seabus (Dec 13, 2002 3:48:56 PM)
What about that guy Conrad Bolston? His measureables seem consistent with the athletic Olineman idea. Plus the DL background that Bollman likes.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:50:32 PM)
I love what I see with Bolston. Great body and a quality kid. I like when a kid narrows things down to less than 5. It tells me he is serious about those schools he is visiting.

mike68 (Dec 13, 2002 3:50:40 PM)
Does MSU have an good OL verbals that we should go after?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:51:34 PM)
Not that I know of. MSU lost their coach too early and there was so much speculation before that.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 3:51:42 PM)
Duane,Do you see Mitchell splitting time with Hawk down the line?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:53:08 PM)
I heard Mitchell was being moved to LB but that seems to have died down. I think if we were going to see it it would be happening now. On the other hand I have not heard of him in the mix at safety so it still could happen. Long tall lean kid. I love the idea of moving him down.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 3:53:18 PM)
Duane,if Ross leaves we need a tailback this year, any thoughts?

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:54:44 PM)
if lydell is a posible transfer who is osu's fallback running back recruit?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:55:41 PM)
For a back in this years class? If that is what you are talking about I have one. Jeff Hughes from Lorain Southview. The best back in this class. Had some off the field problems that took him away from football as a junior but came back as a senior and returned to his old form. David Patterson raved about him. He is turning his life around and needs to qualify but if he does he could be a tremendous late addition.

HangOnSloopy (Dec 13, 2002 3:56:12 PM)
Did Bain commit, or are you just assuming that he is a Miami lock?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:56:43 PM)
I am assuming he will pull the trigger soon.

spbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:56:48 PM)
Hello Duane. We appreciate the job that you and the whole Bucknuts crew do. I just entered and don't know if this has been asked, do you believe we end up with a "Blue-Chip" OL in this class such as Holler or Baker, or will we depend on position switches such as Coleman and Schaeffer to the OL and concentrate on geeting additional DL in this year's class. We seem to be in great shape with potential DL recruits with very few star quality OL recruits. Have you heard for certain that Schaeffer and Coleman have already made the swith. Thank You!

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 3:58:19 PM)
I think Holler is at least 50-50. I feel like the Buckeyes have a great shot. Don't count out those switches. I am very happy with those moves.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:58:28 PM)
duane is shawn crable's seemingly renewed interest in osu a sign that the coaches have told him that linebacker is a position that they want him for..

UABuck (Dec 13, 2002 3:58:32 PM)
What's the latest on Crable - how interested are we? Where does he project to play? When is he visiting?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:00:29 PM)
I can't say that the interest is because of an offer to play LB. I know an inhome visit went very well last week. This is the interesting news. Pitt may be the other player for Crable, not Michigan. Crabel has not set up his visit yet. He needs to do that. He only visited USC so far.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:01:48 PM)
Crable set up Miami and Michgan for this later this month.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:03:08 PM)
I think the interest in Crable is up now after his playoff run. He was one of the first to get an in home when the contact period started. For some time I think the coaching staff was undecided.

bucknut13 (Dec 13, 2002 4:00:47 PM)
I haven't heard anyone talk about Brandon Mitchell when discussing the needs we have at the safety position. Do you think he going to be an impact player for us in the future?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:02:34 PM)
I have only heard about Mitchell as a possible move to LB. I have not heard about him looking especially good as a safety.

Seabus (Dec 13, 2002 4:02:42 PM)
Duane, who do you think will be our starting MLB next year game 1?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:03:33 PM)
A.J. Hawk, if you hold a gun to my head. It is too early to say.

mcorf (Dec 13, 2002 4:03:41 PM)
If we get Bush and he is a QB like you said Thursday, who are you highest on and in what order? Did you see TSN's line on Zwick?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:05:44 PM)
No, I didn't see the TSN line on Zwick. I would put Bush # 1. He really impressed me. I expected him to have a huge erratic arm. he does not have a huge arm. He has a good arm. I was so impressed with his accuracy. That is why I give him the edge over Smith and because of his size. 1-Bush, 2- Smith, 3- Zwick.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 4:05:53 PM)
Duane, I would sure like to land Holley, I thought he gave up on OSU, what changed his mind?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:07:00 PM)
I don't know what changed Holley's mind. He seems very interested in Ohio State. he was very well informed about the Buckeyes. It could be simply because Ohio State turned up the heat.

mcorf (Dec 13, 2002 4:07:08 PM)
If we get Prescott Burgess, does he go straight to olb or does he start out at ss? Also, does D'Andrea start next year?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:08:25 PM)
Burgess is a better SS right now but I would not mess around with it. I would move him right to LB. I am not convinced D'Andrea starts next year. He is still an athlete waiting to become a football player.

spbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:08:34 PM)
Hypothetically, if we only had 2 scholarships left for the DL that we are looking at, which 2 would you choose? I would also like to ask that same question for DBs. Thank you

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:09:48 PM)
Tim Washington and Maupin for the DLs. I am assuming we are not going to get a visit out of Abiamiri. DBs I take Whitner and Hiley. Yes, I would take Hiley over Youboty. He is just spectacular.

calibuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:09:56 PM)
Duane, What can you tell us about the OL from Texas... Thorton that is coming in for a visit??

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:10:45 PM)
I don't know anything about Thornton really. He is late to the table so I can assume he had a fine senior year.

mcorf (Dec 13, 2002 4:10:55 PM)
Any chance any of Miami stealing any of our kids this weekend?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:12:20 PM)
No. These kids are committed. That is something fans need to stop worrying about. Keep in mind they are getting to visit Florida in the winter. Lets not overlook that fact.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:12:48 PM)
duane do you believe that hiley, whitner, and youbouty will all verbal within 3 day's of each other?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:13:54 PM)
I think that could happen. I won't say I think they will but I have always believed something was up with those 3. I do believe that Hiley and Whitner do.

mbeachbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:14:03 PM)
This may have already been asked but how did tressel's in home visit go with Bush?

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:14:38 PM)
Mr. Bucknuts talked to Mr. Bush today, and everything seems good. They like Tressel, said "he's our kind of guy"

mike68 (Dec 13, 2002 4:14:57 PM)
How does Irizzary fit in next year? Redshirt or immediate PT? If PT do they change up the offense to accomodate his talents?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:16:25 PM)
Irizarry plays and yes you change the offense to fit him. He is really special. he can do things that few TEs can do.

EnonBuck11 (Dec 13, 2002 4:16:32 PM)
Duane,is Jeff Hughes in your latest OFS?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:17:20 PM)
Yes, he is. Hughes was in there during his sophmore year before he decided to act up and make coach Shoulders discipline him. He is really trying to turn it around.

buckaubs (Dec 13, 2002 4:17:33 PM)
Duane, it seems you think we have a chance with Quinn again as well. What are we going to do with all these guys. Boeckman seems to no longer have a chance right?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:18:50 PM)
Boeckman is a verbal so he is in unless he changes his mind. He is going to have to take his game to another level to beat out this lot that is currently here and on the way. I think Bush is a Buckeye.

mn buck (Dec 13, 2002 4:19:15 PM)
Duane, I know it is not ethical to drop someone who has already verballed to a college, but if Bush comes aboard will anything change with our other QB who verballed (whose name escapes me now)?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:20:30 PM)
Boeckman can decide to change his mind. That is the only way he isn't a part of this class.

mbeachbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:19:25 PM)
Are there any sleeper OL ?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:20:32 PM)
I wish there was a sleeper OL.

buckaubs (Dec 13, 2002 4:20:43 PM)
Duane, do you expect Reggie Smith to be eligible next year?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:21:33 PM)
Yes, I think Reggie is going to make it. Be happy about him becoming a Buckeye. He is a player. I think it comes down to Ohio State and Virginia and I think he chooses Ohio State.

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:21:42 PM)
I read today Reggie had 26 sacks last year!

Seabus (Dec 13, 2002 4:21:52 PM)
Ashton Youboty. Duane, if this whole parents want him to go to Penn St but he wants to be here thing is true, an in home visit from Tressel will do the trick with the parents right?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:23:12 PM)
I think it will help a great deal. He is a master in the living room. That is why I always believed we had a shot at Bain and Wesley Jefferson. He doesn't have to take a backseat to anyone when it comes to in home visits. He is magic.

spbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:23:19 PM)
Duane, who is the one prospect, any position, that we were courting, that has committed elsewhere, that you would have loved to seen us have landed.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:23:59 PM)
Nationally, it would be Mario Williams. Instate Brady Quinn.

bucknut13 (Dec 13, 2002 4:24:06 PM)
Are the chances of landing Wesley Jefferson increasing? After Whitner, is he the player to get.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:25:32 PM)
Jefferson has stated 3 visits and is unsure of his other 2. Read between the lines. That says something. I think the odds went up as soon as he announced he was visiting. Absolutely. I want to call him next week before I say how much it went up.

atlantabuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:14 PM)
duane or kirk, what's the deal with sian cotton? in the past he said he wasn't interested in being recruited as an OL, but is OSU looking at him for defense, or are they trying to convince him to play offense? fun watching him on the basketball court last night...

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:27:36 PM)
Sian Cotton will be brought in as whatever he wants. If he pans out on defense he will stay. If not he will move.

mbeachbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:18 PM)
Does Tressel think he can beat Miami playing conservatively or will he open up the offense a little in the Fiesta Bowl?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:28:50 PM)
He will not open it up. Miami is full of pro talent. We don't want to see a shootout. It would take a pro team to beat them that way.

nbuck (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:24 PM)
if this kid lee comes up from florida for a visit does that mean conley or bollman saw something that could lead them to believe that if offered he could committ to ohio state?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:29:05 PM)
They would not bring in a kid on an official visit if they were not going to offer.

mike68 (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:26 PM)
How fast is Hughes? Size?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:29:26 PM)
Hughes is 6-1 and about 200. 4.5 forty.

Buckeye98 (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:40 PM)
Duane.......of the current redshirt D-linemen....who makes an impact next year...

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:29:45 PM)
Pitcock will be a presence immediately.

mcorf (Dec 13, 2002 4:26:45 PM)
Any chance of seeing alot of different looks/players in the secondary on Jan. 3rd Ex. like putting Underwood on Winslow?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:30:45 PM)
I think we could see one of the faster LBs on Winslow. I would not put a small guy on him. He could match his speed but Winslow would kill him physically.

beatthecanes (Dec 13, 2002 4:27:06 PM)
Who will be our starting OL for the NC game? What about next year?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:32:09 PM)
If I were making the call on OLs it would be: LT-Sims, LG-OLivea, C-Mangold, RG-Stephanovich, RT-Douglas. Next year I could see Datish taking Douglas out of there.

beatthecanes (Dec 13, 2002 4:27:25 PM)
How much of a impact could Holler have on the OL? How are we looking

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:34:59 PM)
Holler is the one immediate impact OL being recruited. He could step in right away. It is always hard for OLs but he might be able to pull it off. Don't count Datish out. He came on nicely as the year went on.

mcorf (Dec 13, 2002 4:27:40 PM)
Is 2004 going to be our year for OL I hope?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:32:55 PM)
The junior OLs make me less worried about this class. Things are looking good so far. More tape to look at. Wait for the March issue for more on them.

Albin (Dec 13, 2002 4:27:56 PM)
Will Gamble be a full-time CB in 2003?

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:33:58 PM)
I see Gamble as a receiver. He will forfeit too many touches as a defensive player and I think Underwood comes along and I think Whitner will be a Buckeye and start as a freshman. Look for it.

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:34:01 PM)
We will end with this question...

OTC (Dec 13, 2002 4:34:06 PM)
Duane who do you think wins the Heisman?

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:34:31 PM)
And I also have to get Duane's Fiesta prediction...

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:35:42 PM)
I think they give it to Dorsey on his career record.

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:36:17 PM)
17-13. Miami gets frustrated and self destructs. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:36:42 PM)
I'll take that!

Duane (Dec 13, 2002 4:36:43 PM)
Good talking to you all. See ya next time!!!

buckaubs (Dec 13, 2002 4:36:46 PM)
Good answer!!!!

Kirk (Dec 13, 2002 4:36:47 PM)
Thanks for the chat Duane
