Edwards Talks About Visit & Plans

One of the hottest names left on the board in Ohio is Mike Edwards of Glenville High School (Cleveland). The 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback has seen heavy interest the past couple of months and just made a visit with Big East Champion Cincinnati this past weekend. Edwards talks about the visit and where he'll visit next.

One thing is for sure, Mike Edwards is a very hot property on the recruiting board in the state of Ohio. Considered the 19th ranked cornerback prospect in the country, Edwards has seen interest grow since early August to where several teams are fighting for his signature. Cincinnati was the latest to get a visit and from talking with Edwards the Bearcats did very well.

"My visit went great," Edwards said by phone. "I liked being around the players and you could see there is a lot of communications between the coaches and players. My host was DeAngelo Smith who is also a cornerback and a player they want me to be able to replace if I come here."

With the loss of at least two top corners in the country Cincinnati can offer something Edwards is looking for. Early playing time…

"Early playing time is a good thing in my opinion. I want to come in and compete and Cincinnati has that right now."

While the Bearcats could be considered a favorite, two more visits must happen before any decision is made.

"I've got visits in January with Michigan and Tennessee scheduled. I go to Michigan first and then Tennessee at the end of January. I won't be making any decision until after my last visit."

With several programs in pursuit Edwards made the choice to cancel two visits.

"I won't be going to Illinois or Minnesota on visits now. I've canceled both of them."

No matter who ends up with the talented Edwards he's got his list of things he's looking for in a program.

"The program has to have lots of competition with a chance to compete for BCS games and a National Championship. There has to be good academics and a good academic support system in place and I must feel comfortable with the school, coaches and the surrounding areas."

During his recent visit Edwards came away impressed with his visit.

"We went to a great basketball game against a rival school. I had the chance to meet with Coach Kelly and can see that he's a good person and a person who has high expectations for his players and himself. I can see myself playing for him."

Scout.com will continue to follow the developments of Mike Edwards in the coming weeks as he prepares to make his college choice known.
