Buckeyes Make Headlines in NFL, NHL

The lesser-known of the Buckeyes in this edition of Professionally Speaking came up with the biggest play in a thrilling postseason series. Meanwhile, life in the NFL began for Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington while continuing for others.

Professionally Speaking checks in with a trio of timely notes for a Tuesday as a former Buckeye wears the laurel of hero in the NHL playoffs, two others dip their toes into the NFL pool for the first time and several pro football veterans find their offseasons interrupted as well.

We lead off with a congratulations to Dave Steckel, whose overtime goal forced a decisive game seven in a wildly entertaining second-round playoff series between Steckel's Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was not the only Buckeye in action on the ice last night, however.

Turning to the gridiron, follow this link for a look at the first professional practices for Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington, and head this way for updates on minicamp and contract news for veterans Antoine Winfield, Ben Hartsock, Jay Richardson and Troy Smith.
