"We got to Ohio State just before ten o'clock this morning and didn't leave until after four o'clock."
"I was looking at all five offers and didn't really have a favorite school. But today was the day and after seeing what Ohio State had to offer I knew they had what I was looking for as an athlete and student."
I was looking at all five offers and didn't really have a favorite school. But today was the day as I looked to see if Ohio State had what I was looking for and things went great.
Hitting several areas around campus made for a busy day.
"We went over to the shoe and saw the recruit's room and the game day locker room. We also got a chance to go up in the press box and walk on the field. But what impressed me more was the non-football areas of the university.
From the start Basil has stressed his desire to study sports management and with it being a specialized degree OSU was able to show him how he'd reach his goal.
"After we left the shoe we met with Patricia Jefferson who was ready to show me that Ohio State had the classes needed to earn my degree. She had everything ready for me and went into detail as to a plan to earn a degree. Another area we visited was SASSO where Ohio State student-athletes go to use computer labs or for tutoring. Ohio State has all the tools you need to earn a degree.
Getting a chance to learn about his future also helped seal the deal for the Buckeyes.
"When we got done with the academic side we checked out the dorms for incoming freshmen. These facilities are great as they have everything you need and are much more like an apartment than a dorm room."
When asked what he remember most about the day Drew was quick to respond.
"I'd have to say everyone's personality is what really stood out to me. You could tell they really love Ohio State and you got the feeling everyone wanted to succeed in life and not just win football games.
Skipping lunch to get everything in had Basil back in Coach Tressel's office to end the day.
"Just as we were getting ready to leave I told Coach Tressel that my family and I felt real comfortable about how the day went. It was then that I told him I knew The Ohio State University made me feel the most comfortable and where I wanted to be. Coach Tressel seemed very excited about my decision."
On his ride back home Drew tried to call and inform the other schools recruiting him about his decision.
"I was able to get in touch with a couple of the schools but will call again on Friday to make sure I thank them in their interest and for offering me."
For Drew Basil the work is just beginning. He'll continue to fine tune his kicking game with former Buckeye kicker Tim Williams and look forward to his senior season. The future is bright as he'll look to have Buckeye fans feel comfortable when its his turn to win a big game.
