Will Hankins Be Next For OSU?

Detroit Southeastern defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins has put together quite an impressive offer list. Hankins visited Ohio State Tuesday and met with Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel. Will Hankins be the next commit for the Buckeyes? Bill Greene has the latest.

Detroit Southeastern defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is one of the highest recruited players in the state of Michigan. Hankins has offers from Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and many others.

Hankins, 6-2 and 300 pounds, had an impressive junior season registering 87 tackles, including five sacks.

"I'm getting close to making a decision," Hankins told BuckeyeSports.com. "I'm almost sure of where I want to go. I'm trying to narrow it down right now. I'm leaning toward Ohio State right now."

Hankins visited with the Ohio State coaching staff on Tuesday and came away impressed.

"I just got back from Ohio State," he said. "I was there all day yesterday. I met with Coach [Jim] Tressel and the other coaches. They are great guys and I feel very comfortable around them. I like everything about Ohio State."

There has been some confusion over whether Hankins has an offer from Ohio State, but the big fellow says everything is good to go with the Buckeyes.

"We talked about everything yesterday," Hankins said. "They told me to stay in shape and have a good season. They said they would be watching me. They also said to keep my grades up. I'm hoping to make a commitment before my season starts in a couple of weeks, probably before my first game. Ohio State said they would take my commitment. It's fair to say they are my leader right now."

We will continue to monitor this situation closely over the next few weeks at Scout.com.
