Kirk (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:06 PM)
Jerry, you there?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:24 PM)
long story...fill you in later

NATIONALCHAMPS (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:35 PM)

Scoots64 (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:40 PM)
yo Jerry

Stone Cold Buckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:41 PM)
Welcome Jerry

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:43 PM)
sorry for being late.

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:47 PM)
Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! ;)

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:49 PM)
how about them bucks

Kirk (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:50 PM)
Jerry was in a spelling bee and he had to spell Central McClellion... it took him a while

hondo (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:51 PM)
Hello Jerry

pro2coll (Jan 23, 2003 8:28:55 PM)
Hey Jerry!

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:00 PM)

NATIONALCHAMPS (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:01 PM)

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:26 PM)
it's cold out there. Anyway, what juicy details did i miss

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:55 PM)
Well we won the National Championship

beachbuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:27 PM)
hi jerry

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:29:39 PM)
Jerry: what is your opinion on who the 5 best OL for next 2003 are?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:30:32 PM)
Stepanovich, olivea, mangold, simms, ...i am thinking...and bishop

mcorf (Jan 23, 2003 8:30:14 PM)
How important was Cotton's verbal? Does he play DT or OT?

hondo (Jan 23, 2003 8:30:37 PM)
Jerry, who plays takes up the 4 spots on defense in your opinion.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:31:43 PM)
whitner, hawk, allen, pug

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:32:24 PM)
if whitner doesn't work (with fox going to safety)...then definitely salley

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 8:31:01 PM)
Jerry, what's the knock against the Kaiser? Why do they have Wilhelm projected as a 6th rounder?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:34:50 PM)
Knock on Kaiser? he looked good to me. They love his perimeter play. They want to see more plugging from him. More chest to chest with those guards and centers. He has it in him. Heck, he was an all-american that won a national championship. they will see how good he is

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:31:02 PM)
Jerry- What if Clarke is at a decent weight?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:33:23 PM)
Clarke at a good weight...definitely. He makes the cut then.

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:34:03 PM)
Jerry: Thanks for taking the time to be here. Do you think D'Andrea will show in spring ball play well in 2003? If not, how do you see the LB position lookking like?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:36:05 PM)
D'Andrea is solid. I wish we could just rush him off an end. Not because he isn't a great linebacking candidate, but because he is so fast and powerful. He will have a solid spring, but I don't know if he will completely break out at.

buck0816 (Jan 23, 2003 8:36:13 PM)
Jerry, who do you think will be the starting DL against Washington next August? I believe we go with Smith, Scott, Anderson, and Fraser. Your thoughts?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:37:04 PM)
I would definately agree. NFL -type talent. Scott being one of the inside guys.

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:37:14 PM)
Jerry: Which camp are you in on Fox, Safety or CB? If Safety, do you Gamble as a full time DB? If not, who?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:37:50 PM)
Fox to safety. Gamble stays both ways. DO NOT PUT HIM TO ONLY ONE WAY.

polk (Jan 23, 2003 8:38:38 PM)
Inside tip, not to dis Duane... Gamble full time CB.. and watch out for Santonio Holmes!

NATIONALCHAMPS (Jan 23, 2003 8:37:59 PM)
jerry, how much playing time if any do you think justin zwick and/or troy smith will get next season?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:38:48 PM)
sprinkled in late in the blowouts. McMullen will be given the proper respect. Smith is in the lead in my mind by the way

polk (Jan 23, 2003 8:39:01 PM)
jerry, whats the word on Mitchell and S White? is Mitchell now a LB and will either of these play in the 2 deep next year?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:39:28 PM)
Salley is my guy

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:40:24 PM)
They love both of those guys. Yes, I do see Mitchell ending up as a linebacker, but I haven't heard that is etched in stone. White will be good. He will play, but maybe as a third guy in.

Dawgs (Jan 23, 2003 8:40:33 PM)
Jerry, who do you think will be the Buckeyes toughest opponent next season (besides UM)?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:41:28 PM)
Penn State on the road is scary. They want a HUGE piece of us (which is stating the obvious since we are national champs and The Ohio State University)

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:42:02 PM)
And I do agree that UM on the road is the toughest

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:41:59 PM)
Jerry: In my opinion next year's Bucks will have more all round talent on the field than 2002. do you agree? Do you you think the talent will play well?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:44:20 PM)
I see a better offense. Much better offense. Defensively, our safeties and Wilhelm will be missed. So to answer, I see more offensive talent and a similar defensive talent. I question though whether our new players can play the assignment football our defensive players did last year. Let's face it. The 96, 98, and 02 defenses took time and all of them had mature safeties.

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:44:36 PM)
Has #35 taken over #36 as the number for great OSU LB's (-:

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:45:24 PM)
No, nobody is helping Wilhelm with 35.

buck0816 (Jan 23, 2003 8:45:38 PM)
Jerry, what can Craig do in the offseason to improve and hopefully make the offense that much more potent?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:46:54 PM)
Seven on seven. He is as smart as they come already. he is as tough as they come. Just keep repping out those throws. Fire that ball with great timing. That is what seven on seven is all about. Also, focus on spreading it around.

beachbuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:47:07 PM)
will hall or holmes crack the two deep next year?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:48:42 PM)
I hate to speculate. I need to see spring ball. but to guess... I would say yes. (I put way too much focus on the 1's and 2's late in the year to give a good reply). Hall???????? Holmes though, yes.

polk (Jan 23, 2003 8:48:45 PM)
Holmes will start opposite Jenkins next heard it here first

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:49:41 PM)
Gamble, Gamble, Gamble, Gamble, Gamble.

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:49:01 PM)
Jerry, I see that Leandre Boone is now 215lbs. Do you see him koving to LB with all the safties on the roster especially with his speed?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:50:37 PM)
Special teams and a backup linebacker makes sense. I still like those real rangy backers. I want Nail Diggs, Matt Wilhelm types. That makes it tough on an o-linemen

Stone Cold Buckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:50:52 PM)
Jerry, Is Robert Reynolds overrated and the recipient of Cie Grant's and Wihelm's great play?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:52:06 PM)
Absolutely not. Reynolds was terrific this year. He is a guy we needed. Lining up in a two point over the tight end in a 9 technique does not allow for all that many tackles. He was doing the dirty work

Minnebuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:51:34 PM)
Your the best Jerry, the does D'andrea compare with Kat athletically?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:53:51 PM)
Very similar. D'Andrea probably has the upper-body strength edge (in terms of bench, no one will ever be able to curl what Andy could curl). I give Andy the edge in speed and explosion. At 265-270, he was knocking out mid-4.4's

starkbuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 8:54:02 PM)
Jerry, who do you see in the rotation on the D-line next year?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:55:05 PM)
scott, fraser, smith, anderson. They will carry the load. Pitcock should get some time. But those four are too good to take off the field.

Scoots64 (Jan 23, 2003 8:54:13 PM)
Jerry -- Fox & Allen to start at safety -- why or why not???????????

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:56:56 PM)
Why. because we have corners available to allow Fox to move to his true position. He is an NFL prospect at safety. Allen is just ferocious. Knows the system. Big hitter. Makes big plays in big games. Why not, because the corners are still so young and Salley is the man. In the end, I think it is Fox and Allen.

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 8:56:48 PM)
Jerry: On the O, do you think we will see more or less I-form than 2002? How do you see OSU achieving better balance between run and pass? I would like to see more throws to the backs and TEs.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 8:58:41 PM)
I see more I. That is a weapon. The defense can't get a read. They can't scout you out when everything you have is out of that package. We will need other things, but I think a lot of I is a good thing. The tight ends and backs will get more catches because our o-line is going to be much improved. We don't need to keep them in if we can protect with our 5 hogs

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 8:57:17 PM)
Why isn't Tim Anderson getting a lot more press? I think he's just tremendous.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:00:09 PM)
Anderson is the real deal. For him to get a lot of press he has to be a risk-taker that goes away from his assignments to try to do other people's jobs. He decides to just do his job and the media doesn't like that.

polk (Jan 23, 2003 8:59:19 PM)
Who are your 2 deep LB's next year jerry? I just dont see Pug as a Good MLB in the BIg ten, way too small

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:02:33 PM)
Carpenter, Hawk, D'Andrea, Pug, Reynolds, and ????? It will probably be a converted safety. I need to see spring.

JaxBuck (Jan 23, 2003 9:02:21 PM)
Jerry are you saying Salley as a corner??

pro2coll (Jan 23, 2003 9:02:24 PM)
Jerry, You seem to mention Salley alot. I saw him during last years spring make an athletic leap high in the air and make the interception. Do you think he cracks the line-up or used in Nickel package?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:03:50 PM)
Salley is a safety, but Allen and Fox should get the nod. Salley only starts if the corners don't show up. Keep in mind, these are just my thoughts. Fox was a terrific corner and more than capable of starting anywhere at that position. I just think he could be a 10 out of 10 at safety.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:04:21 PM)
The best eleven play, and last year the best eleven meant fox at corner. this year I think it will mean fox at safety

beachbuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 9:04:16 PM)
any truth to the rumors of zwick contemplating a transfer?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:05:05 PM)
I think Zwick will stay.

wahoobuck (Jan 23, 2003 9:04:37 PM)
Jerry: Do you think Green is good enough to hold off the true frosh DTs? I would love to be able to red shirt all the big men.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:06:26 PM)
I don't see any true frosh DT's getting too much time. Love your redshirt idea. Loving Cotton though.

JMIKE555 (Jan 23, 2003 9:05:55 PM)
how about the rumors of Scott McMullen transfer

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:06:57 PM)
I think McMullen stays. He has too many buddies and is having too good a time from what I gather.

mcorf (Jan 23, 2003 9:07:07 PM)
I've read that D'Andrea can't read defenses fast enough. Can this develop or does he need to be a rush only LB?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:08:55 PM)
D'Andrea can develop that. It is in no way too late. He did fine. Most freshman (like 98% of them) come along at his pace. Patience. He could be a great linebacker. I just think he could be like Justin Smith at end.

Kirk (Jan 23, 2003 9:09:12 PM)
Not a Bengal reference

NATIONALCHAMPS (Jan 23, 2003 9:09:36 PM)

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:11:05 PM)
sorry for the Who Dey reference. I lost my mind.

buck0816 (Jan 23, 2003 9:07:12 PM)
How close is kudla to playing like a smith, scott, and fraser? He will need to step up if we are going to use scott on the inside (which i believe we will)

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:11:08 PM)
Kudla is a guy in my mind that gets everything out of his skills. That is a compliment by the way. He will not get four inches taller and 2 tenths faster. The beauty is that he doesnt need to. I do not think he will bring the upside that a smith or scott brings. But he plays his assignments and is the kind of guy we can win more NC's with.

VABUCKEYE (Jan 23, 2003 9:09:50 PM)
Jerry: Can Sander step up a fill Groom's shoes? If not, what are the other options?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:12:36 PM)
Sanders can boom it. Groom was just such a great athlete that he shined so consistently. In terms of leg, Sanders is right there with Groom. But Groom was such a great athlete that he could do it all the time in a game situation. Put sanders out there. he will do fine next year.

buck0816 (Jan 23, 2003 9:12:11 PM)
What happened with Vance? He wasn't announced with the seniors and I haven't heard the reason why?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:14:06 PM)
I haven't heard what the deal is with Vance. From what I know he is part of that class that brought us the title. Nothing has changed that from my opinion. Good question though. I don't know. I haven't heard anything.

Stone Cold Buckeye (Jan 23, 2003 9:13:51 PM)
Jerry... what do you think of the SI article on Female Escorts for these 18 year old recruits and did you experience this on any recruiting visits?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:15:42 PM)
I think that is probably blown out of proportion. My visits only involved the older players girl friends usually walking the parents and the recruits to their seats and sitting with them during the game.

Stone Cold Buckeye (Jan 23, 2003 9:15:00 PM)
Jerry. Is this the offense we can expect from JT every year or will it open up more?

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 9:15:03 PM)
Jerry, with the talent that Tressel is bringing in and brought in last year, do you see the offense staying as conservative as it has been or will Tressel start opening it up?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:16:40 PM)
It will open up more when the protection seals up. Also, when he has a gunslinger back there. Krenzel is a national championship quarterback that beats everyone's a--. But I wouldn't call him a gun slinger.

Dawgs (Jan 23, 2003 9:16:48 PM)
Which Buckeyes do you see signing in the NFL next year (besides Doss)?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:19:17 PM)
Doss, Wilhelm, Grant, Nickey, Peterson, Vance, Groom , carter will get in camps. Probably 6 or 7 get drafted.

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 9:17:52 PM)
JRud- What's the deal with Drew Carter, i always hear how he's suvh a player but he rarely sees the field.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:19:52 PM)
Injury hurt him then numbers hurt him.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:20:29 PM)
Jenkins, Vance, Gamble were our best with or without injury though

pro2coll (Jan 23, 2003 9:20:06 PM)
Jerry, Not to get to technical but explain the different skills needed to play MLB, WLB and SLB.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:26:11 PM)
(In a nutshell) In my mind, middle linebacker needs to be the best tackler, most physical, but it is also the easiest to learn. The outside backers need to good in space and can get away with a slight lack of size. SLB should have great coverage skills, and it helps them to have good range when they line up over the huge tight ends. WLB needs to be quick. That is just major generalities. Every scheme is different. For instance Coach Pug wanted Na'il Diggs at WLB at times because he liked having a big body their in certain instances. At the end of the day, the best three play. MLB's can usually hide a slight lack of speed. Again, this is very arguable. Katzenmoyer and Wilhelm run better than everyone. Put your best tackler and most physical in the middle.

Dawgs (Jan 23, 2003 9:21:55 PM)
Jerry, how many former OSU players are now currently coaches for the Bucks? Have you ever thought about coaching?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:28:00 PM)
fickell, spencer. That is all I can think of. I would want to coach the younger guys. College would be great to coach at, but the problem is that I would only want to be at OSU. You have to be a journey man to get in that profession.

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 23, 2003 9:27:17 PM)
JRud- Have you seen Jay Richardson enough to form an opinion? I heard he could be pretty special.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:28:43 PM)
love richardson. great athleticism.

buckbcs (Jan 23, 2003 9:27:57 PM)
Why were our receivers, with the exception of Jenkins, run such poor routes this year? They never seemed to get open and rarely made play for the ball. With Gamble's athleticism he shows on defense, I was surprised with this style of play on O. Is there a specific reason or are they still learning proper techniques?

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:29:57 PM)
protection break downs and a quarterback that was not a major risk-taker can cause receivers to look average at times. Our receivers were special this year. If we have problems with the offense, I would not point fingers at the receivers. I thought the routes were okay

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:31:26 PM)
I was asked earlier about d-linemen rotations. Get richardson in the mix.

rudzinski (Jan 23, 2003 9:32:29 PM)
Kirk, thanks for letting me be a par to this. I need to get going (the wife is calling my name). You guys take care.

Kirk (Jan 23, 2003 9:32:46 PM)
Thank you Jerry. We hope to chat with you soon!

Riptide614 (Jan 23, 2003 9:32:50 PM)
take it easy Jerry
