Junior Prospect - Chase Clowser

OL Chase Clowser from Keystone HS in LaGrange, OH is one of the top upcoming senior offensive linemen in Ohio. We find out more about him today.

One of Ohio's top offensive linemen this year will be LaGrange Keystone's Chase Clowser.  Not many people may be familiar with Keystone since they are a Division IV team, but at 6-8, 325, the talented Clowser stands out.  In the latest issue of Ohio's Future Stars, Duane Long wrote "(Chase) excels as a pass blocker already and has a great wingspan."

We caught up with Chase recently to find out more about him and what schools he is looking at.

Chase describing his game:

"I play physical.  I like hitting the person across me and making them pay.  It's complex knowing what's going on.  It's kind of hard… I make sure I get our running backs get through; I make sure no one gets to the quarterback. I just do what I'm told and I do it to the best of my ability every play."

On playing different positions:

"I went both ways because we don't have that big of a team."

Schools contacting:

"Ohio State, Kent, Marshall, Colorado, UCLA, Akron, Cincinnati."

Any offers?

"Not yet."

On his camp schedule this summer:

"I'm going to the Marshall one I think, maybe WVU and I might go to Ohio State again (he attended OSU camp last year too).  I might go to a camp that specializes in offensive line technique."

On schools that haven't contacted him as much that he'd like to hear from:

"I like Penn State or somewhere near home like Michigan. I don't want to go too far, like possibly Nebraska or Oklahoma somewhere where my parents could see me play (and it wouldn't take my parents 12 hours to come see me play and cost a lot of money)."

On what schools he likes the most:

"Ohio State's been really talking to me.  Kent State sent me some stuff for the junior day.  Ohio State, Marshall… but that's all I've got so far that I like.  Maybe Penn State if they sent me some stuff."

On what criteria will be important in choosing a school:

"I just want to be able to play, you know.  I don't want to go sit the bench for three or four years… I just want to go somewhere where I'm comfortable, and I like to play there and get a playing opportunity."

On "away from football" activities:

"I play basketball on the varsity team (12 PPG, 9 RPG), and I like to golf in summer and spring.  I'm decent; I shoot a 40 or so."

On his favorite NFL players:

"Personally, I like Tony Boselli and Jon Ogden and Kevin Mawae.  They're big and powerful and can play."

On when he might decide and if he wants to take visits:

"It's hard to tell.  I want to get a couple (visits) in, but I'll tell later… it's too hard to tell right now for me."

On his contact with Ohio State:

"I've talked to Coach Tressel himself, I've talked to the lineman coach, I've talked to Mel Tucker, I think he recruits in northern Ohio.  I've gone to some of their games; they've given me tickets to home games, like two tickets to every home game.  I've talked to all the coaches and everything.  I like it down there a lot; it's a pretty nice place to be."
