Is Franklin In Ohio State's Plans?

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney [Ohio] senior offensive tackle Eric Franklin has just completed an outstanding high school career, one which saw him finish as a state champion. Mooney defeated Columbus DeSales 35-7 Friday at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon. Bill Greene caught up with Franklin after the game and filed this report.

Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney senior Eric Franklin helped lead his team to the Division-III state title last Friday at Paul Brown Tiger stadium in Massillon. Mooney defeated Columbus DeSales 35-7, coasting behind a powerful running game spearheaded by Franklin.

Franklin, 6-7 and 300 pounds, was the most dominating offensive linemen in the six state title games. Franklin's performance was all the more impressive due to him dominating DeSales' All-Ohio junior defensive end Chris Rock.

"One of the keys to the win today was just being sound and finishing plays in our running game," Franklin told BuckeyeSports.com of the victory. "We played them earlier in the year and won a very close game, but our team has improved so much over the season, that today wasn't close at all. We knew we had to be more physical than they were to beat them again."

Two years ago Cardinal Mooney lost a tough decision to Coldwater in the state finals. Franklin remembered that game, and used it as motivation.

"It was my sophomore year and I didn't play at all, but I was devastated for our seniors at the time," he said. "We all came together in our team meeting speaking about playing for our family, and sacrificing our bodies for the team. We did not want to go out the way the 2007 team did, and we were driven to finish this game off right."

Franklin has mroe thanten scholarship offers, from schools like Michigan State, Pitt, Kansas, Louisville, Purdue, and others.

"I'm not sure what I will do next, and I would consider myself undecided," he said. "I'm still hoping to hear from a few more schools, and Ohio State wants to see film of these playoff games, so you never know what might happen there. I'm just trying to take this all in and enjoy this championship right now. I plan on sitting down and scheduling my five official visits in the next week or so. I don't have any dates set up and I don't know for sure which schools I will visit right now. Now that our season is over I will devote all my time to finding the right school for me."
