Underwood Is OSU's Fourth Commit

Shaker Heights (OH) offensive lineman Antonio Underwood committed to Ohio State today. Underwood became the fourth commitment for the 2011 Buckeye recruiting class, and the second today following Cleveland JFK lineman Chris Carter. Bill Greene spoke to Underwood to get the latest on his commitment.

Ohio State landed the fourth commitment of their 2011 recruiting class when Shaker Heights (OH) offensive lineman made his pledge on Monday. Underwood, 6-foot-3, 300-pounds, became the second lineman to commit today, the other being Chris Carter, Cleveland JFK.

"I went to Ohio State today with my grandfather, and I received my offer from (head coach) Jim Tressel," Underwood stated. "We got there around 10:00 AM, and we viewed the facility and toured the campus. Then we sat with (offensive line coach) Jim Bollman, and met with him for about 20 minutes."

"Then they took us into Coach Tressel's office, and he told us I had the offer," he continued. "My grandfather got kind of emotional, and asked Coach Tressel if we could step out into the hallway. My grandfather said if Ohio State is the right place for me, that I should get back in that room and shake the man's hand, and tell him I would accept it. That's exactly what I did."

Although the offer was somewhat of a surprise, Underwood had prepared himself to accept it on the ride to Columbus, should it become reality.

"I had some great offers, from a few MAC schools, but there's nowhere like Ohio State for me," he stated. "It's close to home, I love the campus, so why wait? There was nothing to think about really."

"I was surprised, but I was hopeful they would offer," he explained. "It was funny because before I got my offer from Coach Tressel, when we were with Coach Bollman he kept talking about how much I could play and stuff. I started thinking maybe I got this offer, but I didn't want to get ahead of myself. This is truly an answer to prayer, and I give all thanks to God."

Underwood, who trains with former Ohio State star LeCharles Bentley, was told he is being recruited as an offensive guard or center by the Buckeye staff.
