Graham Bennett Plans to See OSU-TU

One of the most intriguing prospects in the Oklahoma high school football class of 2012 is Casady Prep offensive tackle and defensive end Graham Bennett. Bennett has been playing varsity football at Casady since his freshman season and this year as a junior has really hit his stride. The son of Oklahoma City Thunder managing partner Clay Bennett, Graham is 6-7 and 235 pounds and athletic.

In the Polo Bowl against Heritage Hall to open the season he had double digit tackles and a sack in the game and also chased down speedster Barry Sanders of the Chargers on a punt return saving an obvious touchdown. It was very impressive watching the 6-7 Bennett take a great pursuit angle and show the speed to make the play.

He is honest in saying his forty time is actually in the high 4.7 range, but he moves faster on the field. He also is split with his weight room numbers and honest about it.

"I have trouble with the bench press with my long arms and I really don't know what my bench press max is, but I'm working hard to get my upper body stronger," said Bennett. "My squat is 525 pounds for a one rep max."

Bennett is playing offensive tackle and defensive end but could easily figure at the college level as a tight end depending on his weight development. He said coaches at college camps have told him he is likely a tight end at their school.

In basektball, he averaged right around 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots a game. He was the conference champ in the discus with a toss of 147' 4". He also competes in triple jump and high jump and his coaches have talked about him running the 400 meters, an event he knows he would be really strong in running.

Bennett said defensive end is his favorite in football.

"I'm playing offensive tackle but I've never really liked that," he said. "I'll do whatever I need to for the team, but on defense I like the contain or the chase at defensive end."

He has also really benefitted from being around professional athletes like the players on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"I'm so used to it and all of my friends are star struck around those guys, but I see them working out and see how hard they work," said Bennett. "I've never seen anybody work out as hard as they do, but now I understand that is what it takes to reach that level and to improve yourself as an athlete."

Bennett has natural ties to Oklahoma and spent Saturday at the OU win over Florida State. He did say he has not been invited down yet to go to a game as prospective recruit in Norman and said he has a strong knowledge of the Oklahoma program.

"It was great, everything was great last Saturday," said Bennett of being at OU. "I'm going to the Oklahoma State game with Tulsa next week. I'm looking for tradition in college, a powerhouse program.

"Then there are the pros and cons of where I would play. I'm interested in OU, but I want to explore other programs. For instance, if Alabama called then i would want to go and check out Alabama."

So far Bennett doesn't have any offers but mark our words, he will end up with plenty.
