Juco Defensive Tackle Commits to Cowboys

Standout defensive tackle Jonathan Jenkins from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College confirmed via a text that he committed to Oklahoma State on Monday morning. The 6-4, 343-pound Jenkins made an official visit to Oklahoma State this weekend, taking in the Cowboys homecoming loss to Nebraska. He telephoned the OSU coaching staff Monday morning and informed them he wanted to commit.

"The visit to Oklahoma State was good. No, it was great," said Jenkins when contacted Sunday while at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

"I had a great time and I really liked my host, number 99, Richetti (Jones). He knew everything and everybody. The game was great, really exciting and even though they lost, they have a really good team. Just like everybody says the facilties are the best. I liked the whole visit – the school, the town, the people."

Jenkins had said previously the Oklahoma State and Mississippi were recruiting him the hardest.

Auburn, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and Southern Miss were other schools that Jenkins had previously mentioned.

Jenkins will return to action for Gulf Coast this Saturday when they take on Hinds Community College.

Jenkins is originally from Meriden, Conn., and spoke about what he saw on his trip to Stillwater.

"The food was really good," said Jenkins. "Last night I ate with Coach (Mike) Gundy and his family at Eskimo Joe's. It was so good that Coach Gundy said I could take a (to-go box) for later. The food was good everywhere we ate.

"Today (Sunday), I spent most of my time with Coach (Bill) Young and Coach Gundy. They showed me everything I could ever need to see."

Jenkins is a December grad from Gulf Coast and the former wing-T fullback in high school is all set to find a home and begin vying for playing time in the spring.
