A Statement Day As Blackmon, Weeden Return

Make no mistake, Wednesday afternoon's announcement by All-American and Biletnikoff Award-winning wide receiver Justin Blackmon and All-Big 12 and record-setting quarterback Brandon Weeden makes the Oklahoma State football program that much stronger for the 2011 season. The Cowboys figure to be a preseason top-10 team.

"That means the media is going to want to be talking to me a lot and coming in here a lot," said head coach Mike Gundy. "There will be a lot of hype like there was the year we played Georgia here, but it will be good for ticket sales and good for Oklahoma State, and that is really why we're here."

He's right! The dynamic duo's return will be great, but it also makes a statement about the football program and Oklahoma State University as a whole.

Those two players basically said in front of all those cameras and microphones that playing football for the Cowboys and going to school at Oklahoma State is enjoyable. It's so enjoyable they will put off collecting a huge check or checks to do it one more time.

They both said playing in front of the fans in orange was important. Weeden said running out of the tunnel at Boone Pickens Stadium is "a great feeling."

For that reason, be proud Cowboy fans. You are part of this decision. You have made Blackmon and Weeden, and guys like Russell Okung and Brandon Pettigrew before them, think twice before leaving for the NFL and staying to enjoy being a part of this University and the experience at Boone Pickens Stadium.

The 11 wins this past season made it the best OSU football campaign in history but Wednesday's announcement makes it official, Cowboy football is in the best state it has ever been in.
