Decatur QB May Have Future Catching Passes

Quarterback Garrett Muehlstein of Decatur, Texas is really off the radar but one look at the 6-3, 197-pounder on video and you can see that he's a standout athlete. A coaching friend called to ask me to take a look at Muehlstein, and I was impressed enough to pass his name on to Greg Powers with Scout, and then followed up by calling Muehlstein to see what kind of attention he is receiving.

"I've been getting mail from Tulsa, but that is about it," said the talented junior that has a 4.51 in the forty and a 3.8 in the classroom.

"My family has really been Texas A&M fans. My parents went to East Texas State, but we have cheered for the Aggies. If I could pick schools I would want to contact me they would be Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Stephen F. Austin, Oklahoma State, and Alabama."

Muehlstein did not know his stats from last season, but he did suffer a knee sprain that kept him out of action for awhile. He was still able to earn second team All District 3A-7 at the end of the year. He also understands that he may be asked to move positions.

"That is okay and I know that I may need to play wide receiver or safety on defense," he said. "I'm willing to do what it takes to have the opportunity to play college football."

Muehlstein is also a track athlete that runs the open quarter (400), 4x400-meter relay, and 4x200-meter relay. He reports a 49.1 on his 400-meter time. He also reports a 255-pound bench press, 295-pound squat, and 225-pound military press.

Our thought is Muehlstein is going to see more mail soon.
