Penn Not Returning To Cowboys

Oklahoma State sophomore guard Ray Penn is no longer a member of the Cowboys basketball team, head coach Travis Ford said in a report by The Oklahoman. The 5-9 point guard from Houston has been suspended from the team for the past two weeks, playing in his last game for the Cowboys on Feb. 21 at Kansas.

"He won't be coming back," Ford was quoted as saying in The Oklahoman.

"We have encouraged him to make sure that he continues" attending classes, Ford said. "He's told some people about possible places he may be headed (to play in the future)."

Penn started 10 of the 27 games he played this season, averaging 5.9 points and 2.1 assists. He scored 17 points twice (against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 17 and against La Salle on Dec. 4), but his best game of the 2010-11 season was probably a 12-point, 7-assist effort in the Cowboys 68-60 victory over Alabama in the All-College Classic on Dec. 18.

Penn averaged 21.7 points, 4.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 steal as a senior at Fort Bend Travis High School in earning second-team All-Greater Houston honors as selected by the Houston Chronicle.

He scored a career-best 21 points against Tulsa as a freshman.
