Cowboys Add Safety To Class Of 2012

Watch his tape and you can't help but be impressed with Ashton Lampkin of Fort Worth (Dunbar), Texas. The 5-11, 175-pound standout safety really reads the ball well as evidenced by his five interceptions last season. But then watch him tackle and he has the "rip" style tackle or "corkscrew" down pat. He punishes ball carriers. Lampkin will bring those attributes to Oklahoma State next season.

"I called Coach (Doug) Meacham and Coach (Mike) Gundy and I committed to Oklahoma State," said Lampkin on Friday evening. "They were excited and I will be up there for the spring game tomorrow."

Lampkin becomes the sixth known commitment in the Cowboys 2012 class and he is the first bonafide defensive back.

Besides Oklahoma State, Lampkin said he was recruited by TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, SMU, and North Texas.
