Cowboys Get Second Safety In Two Days

Ashton Lampkin out of Fort Worth (Dunbar), Texas made a commitment Friday, and Saturday it was Kenneth Marshall out of Houston (South Houston), Texas. Marshall committed to Oklahoma State while he was in Stillwater with his mother and older sister for the Orange-White spring game.

The 6-1, 192-pound Marshall is considered one of the better defensive players in the 2012 class in the Houston area. He is a big safety that comes with a big stick when making tackles.

It was his older sister, Eshomberia, that told us over his cell phone that her brother had committed to the Cowboys. She told us he was in the backseat asleep as they were already on the road heading home from the Orange-White game at Oklahoma State. She asked if we wanted her to wake him up and we said, "no, just have him call us later when he wakes up."

Marshall ran in the 100, 200 and the 4x400 meter relay in the District 22-5A track meet on Friday, but we don't know how he did.

Earlier this year Marshall ran a 10.5 seconds in the 100 meters and a 22.0 seconds flat in the 200 meters, and he has had a very good track season. In football last season he was recognized as one of the best safety prospects in Texas despite only one interception. Told that tape showed that very few quarterbacks tested him, he agreed. "They didn't want to throw at me."

As for recruiting, Marshall said he just got an offer from Lousiville to go with offers from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Houston.

"My coach said he is not telling me everything right now because I am in track and he wants me to focus," said Marshall. "A lot of schools have told me that they offered. I've been to Texas A&M and to Houston and now I'm checking out Oklahoma State. "I really want to stay in the Big 12. But then again, if a school were to come after me and try and change me, like an SEC school or Pac-12, then I might have to listen. Really, I'm wide open right now," he said earlier.

Obviously, things changed and we will find out more from Marshall when he wakes up and calls us.
